Such a great little spot on Clement St. Easy to walk right by, but don't. The plant selection punches way above the shop's size, with tons of healthy succulents, a nice rotating mix of indoor greenery, and pots to match almost anything you bring in. What really sets it apart is the staff. Every time I've gone in with a question, like repotting or why a leaf is doing something weird, someone actually takes the time to walk me through it instead of just pointing at a shelf. They even drilled a drainage hole in a ceramic pot I picked out, no extra charge, which saved me a trip to find a drill. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and a lot of what they carry is grown locally so it's held up well in my apartment despite my not so green thumb. It's become my go to stop whenever I need something for the house. Can't recommend it enough if you want an easy, no pressure nursery with people who actually know plants. read more

Beautiful nursery with a wide selection of plants and helpful staff. I brought my fiddle leaf fig, thinking I needed to repot it, but Zack drilled a drainage hole in the pot and saved me the trouble. He offered care tips, trimmed the leaves, added extra soil, and helped carry the plant to my car and secure it for transport. I was pleasantly surprised that I was only charged for the drainage tray. I adore the local little spot. The staff are all so kind and helpful. I love seeing Opal, the sweet old dog that comes in with the owner. The indoor pot selection is beautiful and o really appreciate that they'll help you drill hole in pots and pot your selected plants in a beautiful way (tip the staff for their help!). A gem for plant lovers in SF! I've been going to Clement Nursery for over 10 years, and love that it feels rooted in the neighborhood community. I've learned so much about plant caretaking through my interactions with the staff, and have slowly filled my home with many beautiful indoor plants (including this amazing hoya that blooms several times a year!). The plants are priced fairly and in my experience, lower than many other nurseries in the city. I spotted a new philodendron that looked perfect for my bathroom, and the staff was super helpful with finding me a parlor palm which I had been wanting. The speciality philodendron wasn't cheap($50 but that's market value), but everything else was reasonably priced. Definitely will make the trek back here since shopping here was a good experience! While I've barely managed to keep the 2 plants I have alive, a few more visits to this place and I'll be a full-fledged plant lady. I walked past this shop countless times but never ventured in until one lucky day when I caught a glimpse of the gardens. It was a sunny day with more crowds out than usual and people were going in and out of the gate, allowing for a peak of the beatiful gardens. I had to see them up close. The outdoor area is nicely decorated with lots of eclectic decor, including a vintage VW van. The gardens go back further than you would expect, leading to a peaceful courtyard with fountains and wind chimes. It's the kind of place you want to sit with a book and a cup of coffee. The inside is just as nice, albeit slightly cramped. There's unique vegetation from floor to ceiling, some of which I had never even seen before. They have planters for days. You can find everything from your most basic terracotta pot to handmade pieces the cashier informed me are from the pottery shop in the neighborhood. The friendly shop pit bull makes this place even better. So go, destress in the courtyard for a minute, check out the van, say hi to the pit bull, and bring home a nice plant. read more

I was having lunch with a friend who mentioned wanting to buy a whale fin snake plant. Well, then I went into a spiral of looking for one in San Francisco. If you don't know, it's virtually impossible. After calling about a dozen nurseries, I called Clement Nursery. I was told that they didn't have one either.....until another coworker overheard the conversation and said that he had one that he had propagated at home that he was willing to sell to me. With that said, I rushed over the next day and got myself a Whale Fin! I was so ecstatic! Thanks, Dan! I have since come back multiple times to buy more plants from here and they are always so helpful. But not only that, they make sure that you have your plant repotted to a new one or they make sure you have the proper drainage. It's great! I especially love coming here for their small 4" nursery plants because I love the challenge of growing everything myself to a larger plant. So far I've bought a Cebu Blue Pothos, Hoya Carnosa Compacta Veregata (variegated Hindu Rope), and various other pothos and philodendron for a very fair price. read more

I've lived in the city for 30 years. I work in the city. I have a huge backyard and I actually have a huge front yard so gardening is a hobby of mine. I have Never gotten service in the store, not once have I ever been greeted, not once has anyone ever asked me if I needed anything. It usually takes at least 15 minutes for anyone to even look at me, then I get ignored again. I usually have pretty easy questions but I've literally had eyes rolled at me. In the half dozen times I've been here, yes only a half a dozen times in 30 years, (That's how terrible the service has been I really need to be super desperate for soil or something necessary to finish an on going project to even walk in) well I have found nothing I have needed in those dozen times, except soil. The pots are so over priced and most of the plants or trees as well. And the entry/exit way is ridiculous you get stuck waiting to get in our worse, out because it's barely big enough for one person. I love dogs and take mine to work, but when the dog comes to smell you and you extend a hand or pet it gently, it's gets nervous. I know to stop and just let it smell me but some people do not. And from some of the other reviews the dog has shown inappropriate behavior. Last, but not least the nastiest, nastiest same guy in there every time I have been. How can someone that works around Greenery owns his own business of choice be so miserable all the time I've literally never seen him Smile even when saying goodbye to a customer that he obviously knows. Sad that it's taking up good real estate where another business could do be better. So blessed I live close to Sloat! read more

I came here just to check out the large cacti, but couldn't find the exact match I was looking for. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the wide selection of small to medium-sized plants. I wanted to get the rare variegated string of peas, but afraid of killing another one, I settled for a normal string of peas, and I just had to buy one of the chic little gray planters. I've had the pleasure of speaking with staff and they are both knowledgeable (as most everyone has already noted in their reviews) & engaging. The pottery at the nursery is procured by one person & he has very fine taste, indeed! Should you ask him specific plant questions, then you will be directed to other available staff as plants are not his purview. On my last visit, I had asked after a certain plant and Clement Nursery offered to give me a ring once it came into the shop. I think my phone no. must have gotten lost in the shuffle, alas, as no one ended up calling. -totally fine as I was perusing Harmony up in Petaluma one recent weekend afternoon and they happened to have what I was after. The conversation went roughly as follows: Me: Do you sell [Plant X]? Guy who answered the phone: Yes. Me: Can you tell me the price range? Guy: [sounding annoyed] How much it costs depends on what size plant you want. Me: Right, so could you tell me what the price range would be? Guy: We've got a lot of different sizes. Came here today to look for a plant and although I didn't find what I wanted I came back later in the day to buy a pot for a plant I got somewhere else. Being very new to maintaining plants, the worker there was able to guide me through how to re-pot a plant at their potting station. They answered every single questions I have, like how do I know if I watered it too much or too little, why plants need to be re-potted, why do you need to loosen up the soil from the original pot before re-potting. As you can tell I had a lot of questions and they were able to answer them all. They also gave some moss to add on top of my soil! I'll definitely be coming back again to this neighborhood mom and pop shop if I want anymore plants. read more
