BirchTree Bread Company is... well, amazing! I've been a few times and I always leave raving about how yummy everything was. Today, I ordered the grilled cheese which had caramelized onions and the bread had raisins in it. I was so intrigued and it did not disappoint. The flavors were spectacular. The blueberry salad was super fresh and also full of flavors. I ordered an iced chai with almond milk and now I'm not sure how I'll order one from Starbucks ever again. Birchtree is part of the Crompton building so make sure you check out all the cute shops while you're there. They have live music and pizza nights a couple times a week (also delicious). Parking can get tricky with all the construction but they have some lots nearby with a short walk or drive around for street parking. It's worth it! Enjoy! read more

We liked this place in the past, but our experience there today,Tuesday morning, was not good. The cashier was rude. She wouldn't answer questions and looked rather annoyed. We waited a long time for our food and our hot drinks got cold in the meantime. Then, when the food came, my kids' pb&j sandwiches were made with such hard and stale bread that they, literally, couldn't bite into it. The bread was hard like a rock.! When I complained about it, there was no excuse, or apology. All I got was another annoyed "what other bread would you like instead, we have whole wheat, or challah". $25 for three hot beverages and stale bread: not worth it. I hope they improve their service. Great coffee. The size large is actually big!! Breads were amazing. Service was a bit aloof and kind of confusing but seemed very in line with "hipster" type service and vibes. The first time I tried a BirchTree sandwich was at a Realtor brokers open house and I was so impressed with the quality and freshness of the ingredients, that I called a friend the next week and visited the restaurant. I loved the rustic atmosphere of the restaurant, and the location in the newly developed "Canal District" made it a really fun experience. Met someone here for a business meeting...I work down the street and had no idea it even existed. This place is HUGE and really great! Food, atmosphere...terrific. Busy, but plenty of room. Absolutely a favorite spot of mine. Warm wood and brick walls of the old mill glow with light from the wall of windows along Green Street. Superb live music (bluegrass, acoustic, you name it) and a variety of high-tops, bar space, a comforting collection of kitchen tables, and a quartet of pews corralling an small open space in the eye of the dining area. Every time I say to myself that I'm just popping in for a maple latte and a croissant I end up wrapping myself in the glow of BirchTree. And clearly I'm not alone. Timing is everything when stopping in - the ordering line can be a couple of patrons long or a stacked line of luncheoners, mouths frothing for a taste of something special. The menu has something for everyone - sandwiches, panini, bread puddings both sweet and savory, spectacular salads and superb soups (you could point at random and you would still be absolutely pleased in your selection). Pay at the front (note that there is a coffee/to-go line might save you some time) and then take ya numbah and find a seat - food'll be right on over. Prices are absolutely reasonable (which is good, because you'll want everything). Pizza night Wednesdays, beer and wine available for order, and an afternoon to settle into...this place is marvelous. My usual order: lavender london fog, Coriander Raisin toast with peanut butter and banana. Great atmosphere for lunch, this large loft like space bakes bread (very dark crusts) and has a variety of yummy sounding sandwiches, toasts, and salads to eat, as well as espresso coffee drinks and alcoholic drinks, cookies, muffins. It always surprises me how long it takes to get the food, so allow enough time for this. Today I ordered the quiche special. Quiche was expertly cooked, eggy and fluffy, but I was disappointed by the sweet crust - an American obsession with making even savory food sweet - I thought Birch would know better. Fantastic atmosphere for any occasion. I have visited multiple times and it has failed to disappoint. This is definitely one of my go-to spots in Worcester. The food is fantastic and you cannot go wrong with basically ANYTHING on the menu. Try one of their classic croissants or specials. You are bound to fall in love with this place. However, I do think some of the items on the menu are pricy but other than that, there is nothing not to love. Bring your family, friends, significant other. Found my new favorite spot in Worcester! This place is amazing. The atmosphere is awesome. I went on a Sunday around 1:00pm and it was packed. The line was long, but moved quickly, and definitely worth the wait. Friendly staff members at the cashier. The live jazz band was a lovely touch and made for a great environment. The menu has a lot of options - I had a hard time deciding because 3 things all sounded so good. I ordered the turkey and bacon sandwich and added provolone to it. It was AMAZING! The bread had just the right amount of crunch, and the cranberry mayo spread was perfect. The sandwich was HUGE too.... My group of 4 all loved the experience. How close this place is to my apartment is CRAZY and it's even crazier that I didn't know about this place. It's a wicked open huge cafe, plenty space to move around and a perfect place if you just need somewhere to study. It's the perfect balance of quiet but not too dead silent. It sorta has a mix feel of hipster but earthy at the same time. Anyway, I came here with a couple friends to just grab a couple of bites. My friends got the turkey bacon sandwich, vegetarian sandwich, country bread, and I got the chili. Everything was a good portion, even though I think it's a bit over priced for sandwiches and bread. The downfall is that this place closes early)= wish it was a late night cafe - otherwise I would come here and study all the time! read more

BirchTree has a fantastic atmosphere, filled with sounds, sights and tastes. I have stopped in many times for a coffee, tea and/or a bite to eat. Every time has been pleasant with friendly faces greeting my family and I at the counter. Their everyday items and daily specials are all wonderful and I find myself enjoying the local artist work and live music playing in the background. Highly recommended, plenty of space. Let me first say that that Birch Tree is outstanding . Love everything that I have had there as frequent the place often.This review is only specific to their "pizza night" which my wife and another couple attended for the first time this past Friday. I'm sorry to say that the pizza was not nearly the usual quality or taste that I expected from this fine establishment. Perhaps if you're a college student or parents with young kids looking for a relatively cheap night out, it would be acceptable. As someone a bit long in the tooth, one of my main objectives is to not suffer indigestion which this pizza offered in spades. The musician was fine but too loud for anyone trying to converse. I can't say enough good things about this place! We are from out of town, visiting colleges and didn't have much to do in Worcester. We came upon BirchTree and stayed for hours.
