The star of the show is the sandwich selection, all on a choice of focaccia or seeded roll, with many including stracciatella, a thick, white, creamy, Buratta-like cheese. Almost every item in the store-- from meats to cheeses to drinks to candies and snacks-- is imported from Italy and you can taste the difference. This ain't your daddy's Boar's Head. -- Tutto: Tried on focaccia, with Mortadella, Soppressata, Capicola, Prosciutto, Provolone, Stracciatella Cheese, Tomatoes, Onions, Pickles, Hot Cherry Peppers, and Garden Greens. Very creamy cheese, almost mayoey in texture. It took some adjustment on my first try, but I got used to it quickly. Strong flavors overall. Very enjoyable. -- Matto: Tried (on two different visits) on a grilled seeded roll, this packed Prosciutto, Soppressata, Sharp Provolone, and Hot Cherry Peppers. Bold flavors from the coldcuts, sharp cheese, and perfectly toasted bread, all in the right proportions to enjoy every flavor and texture. This was spectacular and will be a repeat sandwich for many visits to come. Excellent sandwiches. Nice people. Easy ordering via Toast (they don't have a website). Limited hours-- weekday lunches only-- and hard to spot, but in the same parking lot as the convenience store. I'm not an authority on Italian sandwiches but I've had my fair share from the "name" places in and around Boston, and this unknown gem from the outer suburbs ranks right up there with them. I'm a big fan of sandwiches around, and I'm always on the lookout to add spots into my sandwich roster. In my opinion, after my experience there today, I can confirm that I plan to be back at this establishment. The staff were friendly, and the inside of the place was clean with nostalgic Italian wallpaper of different advertisements that we don't really see anymore. Best thing about this place is that the sandwiches speak for themselves. Two sandwiches were ordered, one off the standard menu (Tutto) and another off the Fall/Winter menu (La Gabagool). The quality of the sliced in-house meats, along with other fillings, and the airy focaccia bread is what gave this place into my sandwich shop roster. All of it was tasty, didn't give me the overwhelming feeling of being full, plus the assortment of beverages to choose from made the experience a bit more memorable/enjoyable too. Perfectly balanced flavors, plenty of meat and cheese and the Calabrian Aioli just put this one over the top! I was passing through and didn't remember to call ahead. At 12:00 the owner said it would be about a half hour, but 15 minute later I was on my way. It looks like the majority of orders were called in and there were loads of orders ready to go. The Polastro was amazing which had thin slices of roasted chicken, provolone, garden greens, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, Italian aioli on warm crusty Italian sub bread, soft and chewy texture. I finished my big sandwich in the parking lot and I thought about running back in the shop to order another Italian sandwich, which would be the 4. Tutto for next time. Really delicious food. I got the La Bomba and it was wonderful. The toasted focaccia was toasted enough to be crisp but not too hard and the pesto and garlic aioli were tasty. For personal preference, it was a little heavy on the meat but I'm sure a lot of people would love the amount of meat. It is certainly enough for at least two meals. Location: right next to Richdale's convenience store on Rt. 20 in Northborough near Brilla. Same parking lot as Richdale. Hard to see. Gardina: zucchini, roasted red pepper, spicy eggplant, sun dried tomatoes, burrarta, aioli. Tacchino: turkey, bacon (thin, crispy kind), greens, fresh tomato, Calabrian aioli. This sandwich is gigantic, filling, and flavorful. Calabrian peppers are a little smoky and sweet; there's a bit of a kick but not too much. The prices seem reasonable given the quality of ingredients. You can definitely save half a focaccia sandwich for later, or split it with a fellow carnivore. The staff is very friendly. Wow! As a Northborough resident, I never knew this shop existed as it is hidden next to a convenience store across the street from CVS. A non-assuming store front with limited parking, but don't let that keep you from getting one of the many delicious offerings from the appetizing menu. The Tutto was ordered on fresh Italian roll and the Tacchino on pressed foccacha. Both were loaded with quality meats on fresh bread, carefully prepared and large enough for two meals. No joke! A real find - long overdue - and a new/old alternative to the other local sandwich shop in the center of town.
