I have been a fan since 1993 when my parents moved to Delray Beach. They would take me here when I'd visit. I moved to the area a few years later and when not joining my parents, I would grab takeout from time to time. 29 years later, my mom has passed and I'm picking up my Dad's favorite dish, "Happy Family," to take to him at his assisted living apartment. Great soup. I'll get some Chow Fun, Orange Chicken and/or House Special Lo Mein for the rest of us. yum. Been everywhere else in the area except for Bird Nest Tree! I do recall picking up a pint of wonton egg drop soup one evening. Well today, we decided to give their take -out a try! Ordered scallion pancakes, Hawaiin duck, mixed vegetables and they threw in two egg rolls. The pancakes were plentiful and crispy! The duck was crispy and the sweet n' sour sauce was tasty! The mixed vegetables that were borderline steamed had just the right amount of crunch without putting them in micro or oven to soften them! And the free egg rolls were bland and tasteless filled with just cabbage! Next time, I'll ask for their vegetable rolls! It gives no comfort to write this but, certain things should not go unnoticed. This restaurant was referred to my wife and me upon a visit to Delray Beach, FL. The food was quite good until we got to the pork egg foo young. It goes without saying that it is a leap of faith to trust another's cooking and when that trust has been violated it leaves no choice but, dissent. Lo and behold a bug of undetermined species made its presence in our egg foo young. I pushed it aside, paid the check and tip and we left the establishment. Garbage! Lo mein was cooked in a burt something that's all I could taste, fried rice was slimey and weird texture, honey garlicky chicken was so soggy the breading wouldn't stay on it, and the hot and sour soop was decent (the best of the gross food) and it was only a small container. read more

Not going to lie, I was very skeptical about coming here because of all the bad reviews. I'm not big on writing reviews but I felt I should, to give them some good credit. I placed an order for pick up for chicken lo mein and egg drop soup. I really don't have one complaint about my order. Been enjoying Birds Nest since 1994. The best Wonton soup around. Our favorite dish is called Happy Family. Similar to Family Happiness but with beef, not pork. Great Lo Mein and the basics like chow fun or tofu w veggies are delicious. Really bad and very disappointing! My third time ordering from Bird Nest Tree in Delray and never again. The first two times were alright. Nothing was too bad and I was mostly pleased, except for the 4.5 hr delivery time on New Years Eve when they took my order/money without notifying me of the delayed delivery until three hrs after it was placed. My order was placed online and they never answered the telephone during that time period either. Today's order included the Hawaiin Duck for $20. It was breaded and deep fried. This was the worst duck dish I've ever had, and the owners should be ashamed that it came out of their kitchen. Disgustingly greasy and the duck was terrible. It was not edible! I ordered the pork rib ends and it was obvious that the order consisted of pieces from two different pieces of pork. Half the order was red hued pork and half was brown. Not a good looking brown either. The different colored pieces tasted very different and had a different consistency. The scallion pancakes were horribly greasy and had no scallion flavor. The duck and scallion pancakes went right in the garbage after two bites of each. The container with the rib ends was only 3/4 filled. I ate about 1/3 of the rib ends and tossed the rest. I wouldn't have given any of it to my dog. I had the vegetable Lo Mein which was alright. So essentially, I paid over $60 for a plate of Lo Mein, some average rib ends and a few fortune cookies. Lazy cooking! Whoever is cooking their food simply doesn't care and that's a shame. I would accept a refund, which I certainly deserve but certainly not a credit because I wouldn't eat their food again. read more

We were pleasantly surprised. Given some of the reviews, we were skeptical; however, the food was great and service great, albeit they were short staffed as every business is since covid. Even though short staffed, the servers did an amazing job - funny, polite, and we had our hot tea and soup before ordering - smart to anticipate part of our order to keep the dining room rolling. There wasn't an empty seat halfway through our meal, and a line waiting outside as we left. That should tell enough story. Now that I read some of the reviews that were poor, I understand exactly what the issues were about... typical prima donna snowbirds that expect exclusive attention, but can't afford the Capital Grill, Morton's or NY Prime. You know the type... they think they are food critics at exclusive restaurants, and probably tip lousy - it's an unfortunate aspect of Yelp allowing any clown to review a business. In fact, the table next to us had such a critic that I'm pretty sure was an only child growing up (using grow up loosely). Anyway, bravo to this small business to persevere and provide great food and a pleasant experience. This is one of the WORST Chinese restaurants around. Bird Nest Tree is a left over from the old days yet it's prices are quite up to date. Silverware was dirty and had to be replaced. The soup was only wam and not hot. Very standard and forgettable. The Beef Szechuan I ordered could NOT be eaten. The meat was just like rubber and could not chewed. Veggies were soft and tasteless. The sauce was like glue. Yes, it was THAT terrible. The egg roll was over fired and tasted like a cracker. I left the food uneaten and went to pay the bill. We had a wonderful dinner here two days ago after a recommendation from a friend. We both had combination dinners. The egg rolls were fresh and crispy and the the won ton soup was excellent. My pork lo mein was delicious with lots of nice chunks of pork. My husband had the cashew chicken and it was great too. Everything was fresh and well prepared. I haven't had Chinese food this good since I moved from NJ 30 years ago. The server was polite and service was prompt. We will be going back sooner rather than later. How incredibly disappointing. I finally found a restaurant with New York quality Chinese food. I placed an order they said it would be there in a half hour. An hour goes by and I call. She tells me it's out with the driver. The drive between the restaurants at my home is 8 minutes. 25 minutes later I call again. She tells me it's out with the driver and the driver was supposed to call me. I give it a little more time. Then I call back and tell her to cancel my order. She tries telling me that my food is still out with the driver. Either she lied the first two times that my food was out with the driver or.... My food was in the car with the driver for 45 minutes without having been delivered. I don't think I want that food. They would have been better off if they told me the truth up front about their timeline and how busy they were. I don't think I'll be doing business with them again read more

Every Chinese restaurant in Delray Beach gives you some kind of made up version of roast pork fried rice where the rice is actually steamed in soy sauce. I finally found a place that makes the real Roast pork fried rice. My son called in an order for pick up for each of us and it was absolutely delicious. We will be your steady customers going forward. Your fried rice tasted just like the one made in New York. Don't wait for picking up food was very long but it was well worth it. Greasy food and VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was willing to give them another chance because I didn't want to try a new place, and that was my only mistake. They didn't have a driver to deliver my food, how is that possible? When I called to find out where my delivery was, they blamed ME for the problem because I ordered through a 3rd party. No, I placed an order online on THEIR website. I didn't even know I was going through a 3rd party. Even so, why was that MY problem to solve? I ate here with two friends a few days ago and the service was outstanding. I just wish the food was better. We were served crispy fresh made noodles, lots of duck sauce & a pot of hot tea. The wonton soup was ok and the egg rolls were small and dry. Some entrees were more successful than others. Chicken lo mein was ok, cashew shrimp was good and spare ribs were terrific. Food was ok, wait time ridiculous, male manager was loudly belittling female staff member and then same male staff member accosted us at the door, waving receipt in my face demanding higher tip. Stating it is required that he receive 20-25% tip. He was threatening and belligerent. We went with an elderly relative. They have a lobster special ($20ish). I ordered lobster Cantonese style in a mis-guided burst of nostalgia for the Chinese food of my youth. Not very happy. Granted it was Sunday night when lots of people want chinese food but the gentleman who served us was inattentive to the point of being rude. He seemed in a huge hurry. Didn't pay attention to our order. Rushed us when my wife ordered steamed chicken and vegetables, a dish she has had many times before here, he refused and sad order from the medium.
