Lovely family-owned boutique store for home decor. This place really caught the Christmas spirit for me. There is kind of a European charm to the place mixed with old Americana and it really works! I could have stayed all day just soaking in the ambiance! They have a great selection and ample staff to help you with everything from ideas to finding that something special, or anything in between. The staff was all warm and welcoming. I was also very impressed with the quality you get for the price you pay. While it's not a bargain shop, the prices were certainly very reasonable for the quality being offered. read more

This was the first time I had been to this place and it was absolutely precious! I love all the little vignettes that they have set up. Really sweet and thoughtful gifts. I purchased leather-bound journals and some jewelry that will sure to be beautiful gifts. Walking in the shop smells so good and the employees were so friendly. I definitely will be back! Called up store today from here in California.I Had put a few things into the cart online and was waiting to place the order in case it could not be shipped locally. I spoke to Amy who was so generous and great. I told her I was trying to shop local this oddball Christmas and she said she would help me get the parcel to my friend who lived in McKinney. Later in the day they had wrapped and hand delivered the items to her frontdoor! My dear friend was over the moon! When a store goes this far out of their way they should be applauded. I came to the downtown McKinney location this previous Thursday and a very sweet young girl with glitter on her eyes assisted me with everything I needed help with. Out walking around after lunch and stopped in this place. First thoughts, what am I doing in a fancy home decor store. I found a lot of the items were unique and lots of neutral colors. The upstairs area already had Christmas items up. Saw some pretty cool gnomes. While I liked a lot of the items I saw and would love to have some of them the prices on some I felt were over priced. Also in the entire time I was in the store, about 15 minutes, I was never spoken to by a staff member. There was about 6 customers all together and my party was half of those 6. They do have a gender neutral bathroom the share with the restaurant next door via a hallway. read more

Let me start by saying this is a beautiful store with many fun finds. I do agree with another reviewer that some of the things were overpriced and could be easily found at other stores for much less (Hobby Lobby, Homegoods etc.) I enjoyed my visit and purchased stone coasters and a cute necklace that my friend insisted I buy for my 16 year old for her first day of school after a rough year last year. It said Be Brave. The trouble was when I got home and got the necklace out to give my daughter, it wasn't in the cute little bag. I searched all over but there was no necklace. I called the store and talked with an an associate. She said she would have a manager call me. I waited two days then called back, no answer so I left a message. Several hours later the owner called back. Long story short he said since we don't know what happened to the necklace he would give me $12 back. I said the necklace was $30! He said he was meeting me halfway (apparently he's not very good at math!!) I was ticked! I told him he could keep his $12!! I also told him how disappointed I was because his store has Christian sayings all over and played Christian music so I would expect more. I told him have a nice day and hung up!! I kind of thought he'd call back but nope, no call back. I called my credit card company and they will be reimbursing me so that's good, but it's just the point. Dropped in with my sister-in-law who lives in Arizona, looking for unique pieces and found so many items that we just loved. I found a gorgeous fireplace mantel and I have been looking for years! Lamps, bed frames, all of the unique items just made me want to redecorate. I highly recommend this shop for unique finds. Such a cute shop! We stopped in here after eating lunch next door at Snug on the square. The store has beautiful big windows that display some of the decor they sell, and is very inviting. Everything is super rusic/farmhouse and they have great seasonal decor as well. Upstairs they had all their Christmas stuff out, which made me very happy, lol! No one seemed to greet anyone or step away from the front counter, even though there was more than 1 person there working. Pricing seemed to be on point with most of the other decor shops in the area! I didn't end up making a purchase, but it was a nice place to walk around and look at the cool things! read more

I came into the store today around 1:30pm to finally purchase the brass elk and brass rabbit wall mounts I've been thinking about for weeks. There with my 2 brothers and by the way also the only ones in the store, the 2 ladies that were working stayed behind the counter sitting on their stools and noses so deep in their phone didn't even acknowledge us. I've gone in that store numerous times and never when it's busy and each time no one says anything, I'm in customer service as well and would never do that. But long story short I'm glad I did not purchase there and found the exact same items at a different store for about 1/3 of the price. read more

This is a cute store, don't get me wrong they have great stuff and some beautiful home decor. Some looks crafted and some looks like regular retail stuff. The layout of the store was fine, easy to find things a maneuver through the store. When I walked in I was never greeted the entire ten minutes I was in the store. I didn't buy anything because I was really thrown off by the fact that this store actually buys stuff that you can buy at Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Homegoods. Yes I am talking about the Rae Dunn non boutique items. Like for example they has an icon Spoon Fork Knife that cost $19 at marshalls for $45 and tons of other stuff. This is all stuff you can buy at those stores and they even had other brands of items I've seen there as well for double the price. I understand being in business to make money, but don't go into a retail store and buy their product then bring it back to your store to sell for more than double the retail price. I'm a true Rae Dunn collector so of course this was something I noticed. read more

I visited this store during a recent trip to Texas. We ate breakfast next door and decided to walk around downtown McKinney (which is super cute, by the way). I saw the window display at Birds and Words and had to go in! Every item in the store was beautiful. Their staff was very nice, too! I ended up buying one of their calligraphy globes for my mom. I wish I lived closer so I could shop here more often! read more
