I have used birds for years and I mostly have liked the stylists and the hair cuts and at one point they used to be very affordable. However, over the last cpl years they have really raised their prices - way too much - for a basic mens cut. My hair honestly takes 15-20 mins to cut. At, now, as much as $50 a cut, pre tip, that is $150 an hour, or $100 an hour if you take 2 - 10 min breaks. Also, I could very realistically cut my hair every 2 weeks if I wanted to keep it looking the same all the time and that is $1200 a year. This is simply no longer affordable or in line with the simplicity of the service being provided. I am writing this because I just noticed their prices went up - again. If they continue at this pace I will definitely be finding a new more affordable alternative. read more

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally complain about a deeply frustrating experience I had with Bird's Barbershop on Thursday, February 12, 2026, regarding a 4:30 p.m. appointment I booked through the Bird's Barbershop app. The intended location was 5000 W Slaughter but I was sent to the wrong location (another location off Slaughter). After booking the appointment, your system sent me a calendar invite via Gmail. When I clicked the "Directions" link in that invite, it routed me to the wrong Bird's Barbershop location (off Slaughter). This is now the second time your system has done this. As a result, I lost valuable time driving between locations to get to the correct Slaughter location in Austin. When I arrived and explained that your app and calendar integration had sent me to the wrong address, I was told I was past the 10-minute cutoff window and that "there was nothing we can do." I was simply turned away. What made this experience significantly worse was how it was handled by staff. Both receptionists--and potentially managers--at the two Slaughter locations were short with me, not empathetic, and not helpful in any way. There was no attempt to problem-solve, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused by your own system, and no effort to treat me like a valued customer. The overall tone and attitude made an already frustrating situation feel even more dismissive and unpleasant. I find this completely unacceptable. When a company's own app and calendar integration provide incorrect directions, the customer should not be penalized for a failure in your system. A rigid, zero-leeway policy in situations where the business is clearly at fault, combined with poor customer service, reflects badly on your brand. This experience made me feel like I was treated as just another number in an overly rigid scheduling system rather than as a customer whose time and effort should matter. Your appointment policy needs review, and there should be clear discretion and flexibility when the error originates from your own technology. Additionally, your front-of-house staff should be empowered--and expected--to handle situations like this with basic professionalism and empathy. I am extremely disappointed with how this was handled and will be sharing this experience through public review channels as well. I hope Bird's Barbershop takes this feedback seriously and addresses both the faulty directions issue and the lack of reasonable customer accommodation and customer service as well as zero tolerance 10min penalty. read more

I get my hair cut maybe once a year. I have long hair for a dude and just need a trim to get things cleaned up and cut off the dead hair. They do a great job. They offer drinks, they are totally cool in there, and super friendly. I'll never go to a salon for an overpriced trim again. This is my new spot now and forever. read more

I'm jumping on the Panda reccs. I've been getting my hair cut at Birds for almost 10 years and seeing Panda at the slaughter location for well over 5 years. She's amazing as a human and is a great stylist. She's easy to talk to and it's like hanging with a friend and leaving with great hair after. She does wonders with my thinning hair. I love that Birds does limited booking so last minute appointments are very easy to get. Gotta book ahead for Panda, tho. They've added bubbly waters for those who don't drink which is much appreciated. And generally it's a chill vibe. I recommend Birds to Austin newbies and recommend Panda (if I like them). read more

I was a bit nervous since I have longer hair and have always viewed Birds as a men's barbershop, but as my cut grew out further and further I decided to make the jump. Birds Barbershop is great, but the real star is Panda. I discovered Panda several years ago when I booked a last minute emergency cut at Birds and it was love at first cut! Panda is always flexible in getting me schedule with my crazy travel, provides great conversations, is always willing to offer hair or cut advice of any kind, and remembers the tiny details about me as not just a client but as a person!!! I've unfortunately had to get a haircut or two when out of town on long trips, and am always reminded why it's best to only see Panda! Outside of Panda, Birds on Slaughter offers the typical free drinks, games and chill vibe of the Birds Barbershop model...BUT...it also offers a more hospitable and "you're one of the family" vibes than other locations. Unfortunately I do have to report that this barbershop does not seem to service or customer focused. My first "haircut" lasted maybe 10 minutes and the "stylist" took the cape off me and told me to have a good day. Didn't give me a chance to look at it or show me the back with a mirror etc. stunned I just rolled with it paid and tipped appropriately. I got back to my car and I was jacked up. Uneven unfinished. It was pretty crazy. I looked up how I communicated what my haircut should be like for 15 min because I thought I was going crazy. I called and spoke to the manager. He did think it was very strange short the haircut was. He said I could come in 3 days later because a senior stylist needs to perform the repair so they can communicate to the original stylist what they did wrong. I had to wait to get my hair fixed for their training purposes. He ended with you will not have to pay anything to get fixed. I replied politely that I didn't expect to. I didn't ask but totally expected an offer of a free haircut or refund of my original haircut. Just shows they are not service or customer focused. Legit services and styles are going down at ANY Birds Barbershop in town but Slaughter Lane has expanded their spot and added about 6-8 more chairs than what they originally opened up with. Now that they got a Birds App where you can set up your appointment, check wait times, and receive reminders & discounts(!) it is ON!!!!!! No wait, no wonder, and no worries now that the app is up and going. Seriously - download it. You can even check out your / other stylists schedules on it as well. Birds has evolved and knows exactly what a lady, like me, needs and wants when she has to go get her obligatory hair did. I want beer, no wait, free arcade games, and the option to be able to choose decently priced and great products to sustain my mane after I get my hair done. If you don't want beer I believe they still have cold brew coffee on tap for you to choose from. They even think of the littlest things like a koozie for your beer (or coffee)! My hair is always taken care of by any stylist I choose or decide to go to. I always appreciate being asked what I want, how, and even the questions on what do I do with my hair on a daily basis (how do I wear it). I appreciate the time and concern each stylist has provided to me no matter how busy the place can get. Everything is clean, staff is friendly, and I have never had a problem with service. Birds - don't stop being you. I like you and the beer you give me for free. It just makes my day. There are never more than 4 stylists working. When I ask for someone patient and good with kids, it's never noted. They have a SEVEN minute window at which they cancel you (but do not tell you this in advance) and hardly any parking. The turnover is insane so you probably won't see the same person again. We REALLY tried to like Birds on Slaughter but it is a hot mess of a business. The haircuts have always been below average - especially on teenagers. They don't seem to care at all, especially if parents aren't there watching over the haircut. When we finally (after years of trying different stylists) found one good stylist and my son waited nearly two weeks for his appointment, at the last minute we get a text message that said she's "injured" and the appointment was cancelled. After several phone calls we got rebooked for the next day. Then again, at the very last minute, we got a text message she has a "family emergency" and the appointment was cancelled. After speaking with several rude "managers" including Andre and Lily who didn't care at all that their stylist flaked - they made no attempt to get him re-booked and he was going to have to wait another week or two to get an appointment. Then, we find out that after their stylist flaked two days in a row, they marked my son as a "no show" and their manager didn't believe me that their stylist flaked- even though there was proof in the text messages. The worst part is that later they reveal (or make up a third lie?) that the stylist was out sick under "doctors orders" out of work for a week - which means that after knowing she was sick Saturday she came in to work all day Sunday, leaving just before my sons appointment, exposing all her clients to whatever she knew she was sick with on Saturday. In the time of COVID, this is pretty crazy. Even the Director of Operations who I emailed made zero attempt to rebook the haircut. They offered some free haircuts after I insisted, but with no appointments available what is the point? The owner, Jayson, was aware of the situation and did nothing. Their haircuts are bad, their staff and management are rude and they blame it all on COVID and how they can't find any good employees. Unfortunately, the problem with Birds starts at the top and trickles all the way down to the stylists. read more
