I don't own any birds but I come here occasionally just to look around. Everything is neat and clean as far as items go. Birds are quite lovely and cages are cleaned whenever I stop by. I came across Joe's on the internet when looking for bird shop that was open after I got out of work. I called his shop which is 1hr 35min away (all other shops closed earlier in PA). After explaining to him I live far but really want a bird, he said that he would wait for my family and I to show up (which was 40min. after he tech. closed and it was his birthday!). He allowed us to take our time and pick out a bird and explained everything we needed to know considering we are new bird owners. After getting everything we needed, and my son talking to every bird in the shop, and Joe helping me take apart the cage and stand to fit in my car, we left close to 10PM.Extremely satisfied with the knowledge he had and the prices of everything. I strongly recommend Birds By Joe. I purchased a Greater Vasa Parrot from Joe. Due to the fact that I live out of state and this was an online purchase I was a little nervous since there are so many scams involving parrots. I sent Joe several emails regarding my concerns including concerns about the Vasa's health. Through the help of Joe I was able to have my Vasa vet checked in NJ and again by my Avian Vet. My wife and I went to Birds By Joe to get two hand-fed baby parakeets. We selected them about five weeks ago, Joe hand-fed them, raised them, trained them, and called to let us know they were ready to be picked up. We went to Birds By Joe this weekend and took home our new parakeets - Paul and Ringo. The parakeets are doing great! The parakeets are healthy, well adjusted, and happy. Joe and his wife are very nice, knowledgeable, caring and professional. We had visited other pet stores, but were not happy with the birds or the support. Bought a baby green wing from Joe, We drove from NH to pick him up. What a great place!! Thankfully I dont live close or id probably have a million birds from him!!! I visited Birds by Joe this past weekend. Yes you walk in to the front of the store and it is well stocked, appears clean, and I was greeted pretty quickly. It is what greets you in the back of the store that is very upsetting. This is one of the dirtiest bird stores I have ever been in. The cages are simply filthy. I am not sure what those with positive reviews are looking at but cages should not look like that . There wasnt a day's worth of dirt, food, and feces in those cages but weeks worth. The food dishes were low and the water bowls were unclean to say the least. A number of the birds appeared sickly. Joe might be a "nice guy" as the other reviews state and very attentive but you buy a bird in a dirty store you are looking for trouble, vet bills, and possible heartache. There are a number of good clean reputable bird stores in NJ. The Bird House on 18 comes recommended by a very good avian vet and World of Birds in Chester is also a very clean store with nice quality birds. Very simply put "Buyer Beware" read more

You walk into a lush and colorful assortment of goodies covering everything from cages, toys, and the newest and most popular foods and treats. Whether your a first time bird owner or an experienced aviculturist. Joe and his staff will always treat you like family and give you all the time and options that are available for you to make well thought out and educated decisions. His bird room is always full of hand fed happy bright eyed baby birds that you can walk through and see first hand. He hand feeds all his babies himself every day and interacts with them daily to check their health and any of their needs. I have 3 birds (all from Joe) and go there atleast 2 times every couple of weeks. There is always something new out there to make your bird healthier or to make cleaning up after them easier for you. I brought home two babies from Birds by Joe. A Cape Parrot and a Green Wing Macaw. Both are extremely social and sweet babies. I can hand them off to anyone at anytime and they are well accepted. They are very accepting of new surroundings, food, toys, you name it. The atmosphere at the store is excellent. Joe has a wealth of knowledge and has no problem sharing it with everyone. This is a up-date from my 3/30/15 post. If I could give six stars I would. I bought my red lored amazon from Joe about a year ago. Oh my god he is the best bird in the world !!! His name is Rico, yes we changed it from Domingo. From the moment I set eyes on Rico it was a match made in heaven. After a year I must say exotic birds are incredible pets. This is our first exotic bird. If I knew how easy they are to take care of them I would have never bought a dog !!!Joe is the most knowledgeable person I have ever met in regards to exotic birds. What makes this the best place to get a exotic bird is Joe. Joe loves what he does for a living. We now see Joe every six months, he trims Rico's wings and trims his nails. Apr. 28-drove 2 hrs to Joe's place for a cockatiel. I was shocked by the filthy birds, about 12 crammed into one cage, all with tattered and filthy feathers. There was one large perch which was covered with feces. The smell was awful. I could not wait to get out of there. I've read the other reviews and I can't believe we are talking about the same store! My daughters Sun Conure dies suddenly this week in his sleep. She was beyond upset and hysterical. I searched all over Staten Island but couldn't find any stores who knew anything about the birds they were selling. I came across Joe on Google. We drove the 30 minutes to NJ and right away I could tell we came to the right place. Joe was so nice and let us handle all the birds. His store is amazingly clean and all birds are very well taken care of. My daughter fell in love with a Sun Conure. He is so tame and cuddled with her all the way home in the car. Also his prices can't be beat. DO NOT go and pay more at a Petco for a bird that has never been handled and you have no clue where it came from. He also ships around the country. They have a large selection of birds. I had been looking for a baby parrotlet so a friend and I walked in there one day. They had about 5 baby parrotlets. I was so excited and they were absolutely adorable. One of the ladies that worked there helped me a whole lot through everything. I was convinced to buy a bird cage there and joe matched the price of the same cage on Amazon. After a few weeks of me going there and visiting my new baby, I got a phone call that they all died. Devastated, I was told that they would get new babies in soon. I had been in contact with someone else who was supposed to get a baby parrotlet that unfortunately passed away and she had picked her new baby. I wanted to wait for a specific color but a few weeks later she told me that one died as well. One day I went there and saw an older healthy looking parrotlet. I held him and fell in love. He wasn't banded. 2 weeks after having him he became extremely ill and I took him to the vet. They said he had a bacterial imbalance most likely from the pet store. He went downhill very fast as birds do and after a few days of medicine and hand feeding he passed away. I emailed joe to let him know and I didn't get a response back. Needless to say I'm never going back. read more
