"Best fries in the city" is what one reviewer said of Bird's Kitchen. Served hot and with crunch, Miss Birdie's fries are darn good. So is her crab cake. Located in Ward 7's Civic Betterment neighborhood, Bird's Kitchen is worth the drive. Park along the street and walk into the no-frills, takeout-only restaurant. Likely, you'll meet Miss Birdie (the co-owner and chef). Her story is inspiring. (She wants to encourage more foot traffic in the neighborhood.) And her food homemade. She sells turkey burgers, hamburgers, crab cake with no filling, banana pudding, lemonade. It's all fresh and made to order. If you're craving home cooking, head to Bird's Kitchen.

Black owned carry out in DC that is truly a hidden gem. The flavors with the food & homemade teas are amazing. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by Auntie Bird herself , with a smile and positive energy. You can tell the food is made with love & passion. The crabcake sandwhich has 0 filler !! & that SAUCY SAYCE is SPECIAL ...I'd put it on everything !!

This establishment is small. It is an order and take to go spot. It's cute though. We served promptly. Service was outstanding! I even had a laugh with Sheena. LoL! The menu is limited to a few items. My husband said, "The crab cake is good. It's well seasoned." He compared it to a place we've been going to for over 20 years and he said, "Bird's Kitchen is a very close 2nd." All in all, this is a good food spot.

The Thanksgiving turkey burger was unique and really flavorful, with the onions and peppers cooked in the patty and the cranberry topping.

On a brioche roll that was so soft...veggies were fresh. Added some sweet potatoes fries...the only thing that was missing is a couple crisp pickle spears. Will definitely come back...(just not in a Friday night)....saw they had impossible burger on the menu so I'll have to come back and try that one of these days. And let me tell you- Club Auth Rd was jumping this evening....hahaaaa! The pizza place on the corner had a patio section that was given club DC in the early 2000's lol The parking lot was packed on a Friday night. We literally drove around the parking lot for 10 mins trying to find parking... Unfortunately the restaurant didn't allow call ahead orders soooooo.... I insisted we wait in out since we had already taken the ride... The hubs and I were definitely reminiscing about the good ol days...hahaaaa!!! Noted! Will not come back on a Friday night! Happy Yelping!

The young lady who helped us was cheerful, friendly, and genuinely pleasant. I apologize that I forgot her name, but she definitely deserves recognition. The food was your typical quick burger-and-fries meal, but everything was hot and fresh. The restaurant was also clean, and the prices were noticeably lower than most places these days. My only suggestion would be to keep paper towels stocked in the restroom. Overall, it's definitely worth stopping by if you're in the area. I didn't take pictures we were starving!

Our waitress, Lydia, exhibit attentive and efficient service the entire night. She helped us with the menu, checked on us throughout the night, and refilled our drinks. She did this while serving the entire place. I would describe the service as empathetic and refreshing. Food: The wings here are really good. They are sizable and they don't hold back on the sauce. The skin is crispy and the wings are properly seasoned and cooked. We also got the burger. It was good, but slightly over cooked from the "medium" I requested. The pizza was very good and cheesey. It almost tasted homemade (in a good way). I'd get it again. Ambiance: It's a local bar with plenty of TVs to enjoy the game. It's a bar crowd, so expect some yelling and music, which fits the atmosphere. I like the decor, and the place smelled clean. I'd definitely come here to watch the game and have some wings.

I visited at 5 PM on a Monday, right after they opened. We got some burgers and fries. The Terlingua Burger ($13 for single patty) comes with cheese, beef chili, onion and yellow mustard. The chili didn't stay on the burger. It was basically beef with more beef. Tasty but not that interesting. The Lancaster ($12 single) had bacon, cheese, pickled onion, tomato relish, and arugula. It was a bit sweet with the tomato relish. Pretty good overall. Fries ($6) are "curly-ish" in a shape I've never seen before. I didn't think they would have the right balance of soft to crispy, but they were great. Happy hour includes a $2 tallboy beer which is impossible to beat anywhere in DC. The Montucky Cold Snap was a light lager, like you'd expect. The place is small, but cute. I like the two-person mini-booths and the Tex Mex decor. 20% auto-grat even thought it's not a full service restaurant. They have signs on the table inviting you to get your own silverware, napkins, and condiments. We ordered by QR code and had staff bring us the food and bus the table.

The interior is thoughtful with fun chachkies all around and exposed brick. And the food/beer selection is pretty good too. I've enjoyed the "OK burger". And the seasoned curly potato wedges!!! I didn't really enjoy the arugula on the burger because it got wilted fast.

If Chipotle had a soulful, culturally rich cousin... it would be Spice Black. Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

The restaurant is nicely decorated with vibrant colors and very clean. The service is friendly and welcoming. The food was okay. Not bad and just good in my opinion. Its not rave worthy but its still good. I would come back and try other options. This is still a good healthier option oppose to the many of terrible choices we have to choose from, this beats most unhealthy fast foods restaurants. For that reason I would return to try other food options. If you like chickpeas then this is your meal, Im not so it threw off the salad to me. I would have preferred chicken. Honestly, everything came together nicely as one salad, nothing was over powering. I'm just not a fan of chickpeas. They do have an option for shrimp but dont eat bottom feeders so that wasn't an option for me. My tastebuds are much different from yours so I would still give it a try. You might like it a little more than me. Its still a fairly good meal.
