Oh DCity Smokehouse, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways: One for the brisket, kissed by hickory haze, A tender truth wrapped in a peppered crust, Each bite a smoky promise, bold and just. Two for the ribs, like gospel in my hands, Falling from bone like time through southern sands. With sauce that sings a sweet and tangy hymn, It stains my soul and leaves me full to brim. Three for the sides that flank this sacred feast: Mac 'n' cheese rich enough to quiet beasts, Greens cooked low, and cornbread--golden prayers, A Southern table set with holy wares. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Four for the smell that dances on the air, A siren song from blocks away, laid bare. It draws me in like lovers long apart, With just one whiff, it reels my longing heart[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. So DC Smokehouse, pitmaster divine, Your craft is scripture, and your meats are wine. This ode, this hunger, this eternal praise-- How do I love thee? In a thousand ways.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved the ambiance[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Loved the staff Food- The food not so much. I come from a KC barbecue tradition as a lover of barbecue and a cook. The food doesn't follow any classic tradition of KC, Memphis, North Carolina, Texas, or any traditional barbecue taste palate I could determine. The collards were too sweet; the Mac and cheese was too spicy and I have no idea what was going on with the beans they appeared to be kidney beans? The brisket and ends were cooked and sticky with a sweet molasses type sauce, but I couldn't discern any traditional pink ring or smoke.

If you're looking for a quick, good quality place for food, check them out! My friend recommended it to me and normally, I really don't enjoy smoked foods, but I was so pleasantly surprised when I tried the smoked wings. They were so tasty. Just juicy and flavorful! The sauces that came with were just as good. The one thing I will say is that the fries seemed like they could have been cooked a bit longer.

Checking this place out for the first time.

Come sit next to me real quick foodie family. Let me tell you about this place. I've been smelling their smoke in the air whenever I'm in that area for a couple few years now. For those of you who follow me know I'm from Chi-town - arguably the best foodie city in the country, if not the world. *winks* Like our pizza, we take our barbecue SERIOUSLY and there are rib joints literally all over the city. Needless to say, that ain't DC. The DMV in general suffers significantly from a lack of even decent BBQ spots, forget about good ones. Other than 250 BBQ (and that "dino" rib) and one or two others there really aren't any places that I would recommend - until today. A partner I work with wanted me to meet the owner to talk a little business so I decided to stop in and check out the food, you know killed two birds sort of thing. He wasn't there, but I still decided to try the food. Had a good conversation and laughed and joked with his nephew and a couple of the guys there behind the counter... Who of course were talking smack because they claim to be quite familiar with the Chicago BBQ tradition. They even sell rib tips here... Another of our BBQ traditions. Immediately felt dubious at their bravado though, lol. Then they let me taste the beef rib. Smokey fatty well seasoned deliciousness. Took two fat boys to go. I also ordered some pork spare ribs to go. They let me taste the collard greens (I told him they had waaaaaay too much sugar in them but otherwise seasoned). Tasted like Christmas candy. They also let me taste some jalapeno grits. Super well seasoned and creamy like they put Philly cheam cheese or crème fraiche in them (they wouldn't tell me what they actually put in them, lol). Super unctuous... And you can see the bits of jalapeno in every other spoonful. Very nice interpretation. Speaking of spicy, these spare ribs are dry rubbed (which I love) and smoked for 4 hours (they said). In their seasoning there's something hot because these Jokers are spicy!! Yep there's a **kick** in them there ribs... That may just kick YOU in the ribs if you're not careful. My tongue was definitely tingling. Sauce served on the side. The ribs are soft enough to slide off the bone although there's a little bit of resistance so I think they're smoked perfectly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is comfortable, the service is warm and friendly and this is a good spot to go for some good barbecue in DC for a change.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking is MLK packed as usual so be mindful.

Food delish!!! Rib tips and collards will have me sleeping good. Spicy collards have a lil heat but nothing to ruin the meal.

We got this for lunch Togo the other day. It was good. The wings are huge but taste good. The ribs were really good. I also got the Mac n cheese it wasn't my thing but I'm used to traditional Mac n cheese. I will order from here again when I'm in the area.

I got the BBQ sampler platter that included rib tips, brisket, spicy greens and bbq beans. I also got a side of pulled pork. The rib tips and brisket were DRY and FLAVORLESS. I've never had rib tips served that way. When I checked my order I told the lady she gave me turkey by mistake! The brisket was pale! Smh The spicy greens had no spice and had a hint of a sour taste. The beans were overcooked and again lacked flavor. The pulled pork was ok but also could stand some seasoning.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I really enjoyed the ambience of this place and the vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had some high table seating and TVs in there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The people working in the counter were super friendly and very helpful with the menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I cannot wait to get home because the place smelled amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]FYI, if you don't want to smell like Smokey barbecue, you should probably order pick up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the rib and wings combo. It was about 24 bucks or so. Everything tasted amazing and the barbecue sauce made it a little bit spicy even. I loved it! I highly suggest going here. Some people told me to cautious going into the Anacostia area, but I really didn't have any issues while I was there.

OMG. Stopped in yesterday to treat myself to a Good meal and OH. EM. GEE. was everything amazing. Okay, reasons for the 5 stars: 1. Service was great. this was my first time at a DCity Smokehouse so I needed some help with the menu. The guy behind the counter came from behind the counter to walk me through the menu and tell me his favorites. Very kind. 1a. Food came out quickly and was hot. 2. FOOD WAS SOOOO GOOD! I had the smoked wings, the Mac and cheese and the spicy collard greens. Portion sizes were great (even with the small sides) and the food had so much flavor! Wings were cooked PERFECTLY, sauces were delicious and the sides were seasoned PERFECTLY! 3. Love that we have another restaurant option east of the river! Makes my heart smile! Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu! Few things to note: - Not really a vegetarian friendly dining option, but there are tons of sides that you can piece together to get a good veg meal. - the inside is a little dark for my liking, but that just a personal preference. Overall, service was great, food was amazing, vibe of the establishment was awesome! Love to see it!

With accolades of being among the "best BBQ" spots in the D.C. area, this location in Anacostia is their second in the city. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 12-8 p.m., I picked up takeout around 6 p.m. on a Friday evening. Here's our experience. 1) Food: The menu is full of items from smoked wings to ribs to pulled pork sandwiches. They also have twelve different sides. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty and has the right ratio of slaw to meat. It comes with BBQ sauce in a small container. The Mac and cheese is good, but wasn't as spicy as I had hoped considering there are jalapeños in it. The baked beans were great! They are not runny at all, but rather very thick. 2) Drinks: They have a refrigerator with bottles of Coca-Cola. 3) Service: The staff were super friendly and efficient. There are two cash registers and one person who makes the food. 4) Space: There are four high top tables that sit four each and a few stools at the front window. There's one unisex restroom in the back.

The brisket sandwich slaps! Made me feel like I'm in the south again. Owner is super cool to. Informed me on how they go about preparing their brisket.

The only thing I needed was some crusty french bread to enjoy the broth. The broth was super flavorful and the mussels were fresh. I decided on the lamb rigatoni for dinner. This was my first visit to Kitchen Savages. I had tried walking in without a reservation once before on a Saturday evening, and there were no seats available. So my first recommendation would definitely be to make sure you make/have a reservation because they do get busy (understandably so)!! Overall our brunch experience was good! I started off with the Mimosa Sampler for my drink order; I wanted to try the different flavours that were on offer. These were nice, but I'd hoped the presentation would have been a little better and the mimosas not as heavy with the juices. The food was great! Super tasty and packed with flavour. My husband had the Peach Cobbler French Toast and I ordered the 'Create-Your-Own' pasta. I requested it with salmon, shrimp and spinach, but it only came with the shrimp and spinach. Such a shame, because I can imagine the salmon would have made the dish EVEN better. When the bill came, it had the salmon (which I never got) listed on it - after pointing this out, the server checked with the kitchen, and kindly removed it from the bill. Overall, I would say that we really enjoyed brunch here. I will definitely be back in the future to try the main dinner menu & hopefully there'll be no mixups with what I order and what I get .

I visited at 5 PM on a Monday, right after they opened. We got some burgers and fries. The Terlingua Burger ($13 for single patty) comes with cheese, beef chili, onion and yellow mustard. The chili didn't stay on the burger. It was basically beef with more beef. Tasty but not that interesting. The Lancaster ($12 single) had bacon, cheese, pickled onion, tomato relish, and arugula. It was a bit sweet with the tomato relish. Pretty good overall. Fries ($6) are "curly-ish" in a shape I've never seen before. I didn't think they would have the right balance of soft to crispy, but they were great. Happy hour includes a $2 tallboy beer which is impossible to beat anywhere in DC. The Montucky Cold Snap was a light lager, like you'd expect. The place is small, but cute. I like the two-person mini-booths and the Tex Mex decor. 20% auto-grat even thought it's not a full service restaurant.
