We were in town for a meeting and this place was close to where we ended our day. I didn't even bother to check out the reviews, it was convenient and we were starving so we went with convenience. We are *SO* glad that we did. They were out of asada, which was fine because I couldn't decide between it and birria, so we both went with birria quesotacos. They. Were. Spectacular. They were the best quesotacos I've had, while served on soft taco shells they were lightly crisp - which we loved. The meat was cooked perfectly. SOOO good. We'll definitely be back! The place is easy to find, on 32nd street in the same strip mall as Albertsons. It's casual and has both indoor and outdoor seating (I choose outdoors because they had their music a little loud and we really needed to talk business). All that being said, it is worth mentioning why I only gave it 4 stars - the service. It was a Saturday afternoon (maybe 2'ish?) and there were 2 tables of people, one single and one family. We waited a while for the person to come in from the back to place our order, one of the folks from the family table mentioned that they were a little slower than 'usual' because there was only one person working. He also mentioned that the quesotacos were his favorite item and suggested that we try them (he asked if we'd ever been there before so offered his opinion). Once the person out to take our order, they apologized for the wait and were very gracious and polite when taking our order. We ordered our tacos and a side of rice, only the tacos were brought out to the table. After we finished our tacos, I went in to ask about the rice and was told by someone else that they were sorry and would bring it out. Sadly, a customer placed an order right after and they forgot about me so I had to to in and remind them again. There was a second person behind the counter when we left - I don't know if it was in addition to the first person or if it was a shit change. One more thing I want to mention, there were hand written signs at the door and on the counter that they were unable to accept credit cards. The note said that they'd take cash or pay app, and included their pay app handle, which appeared to be someone's name and not the business name. As a business owner, I have a problem with that. I *COMPLETELY* understand that sometimes technology disappoints us and you need to temporarily accept cash only, but the pay app request seemed odd. We will definitely be back to town and DEFINITELY will be back here because the food was so darned good. Thank you for reading my review. I am not a big beef eater but OMG this place rocks. I had been craving Birria tacos for some time now... since I was on New Mexico with some co workers. I looked for tacos in Yelp and came up with quite a few so I decided to put in Birria tacos and this place came up. I am not big on reading reviews I like to look at all the food pictures. I know if the food looks good coming from the kitchen then it is edible. The picture someone posted on here with the cheese pull when they opened the taco was what did it for me. Service was great. I wanted tacos but then I saw Mulitas.. I asked what they were and the nice girl said like a taco but flat. So it was a taco sandwich with all the goodness in side. I asked if the consume came with it and she said on the side. Perfect.. I was sold, to trop it off it was $2.50 Wednesday special. I got 4 of them because I knew I would have dinner the next day also (life living out of hotels). My food came out fast and hot. Love this place! Their birria tacos are AMAZING. The tortilola's are well cooked, crispy, and the meat is full of flavor. Going here at sundown-dusk creates such a lovely experience. The taco Tuesday or Thursday specials are fantastic. But be warned if you don't eat goat and you don't know what you're getting into this will appear to be a wet soggy and greasy mess. So now that you already know that you like goat I can recommend this place they have a nice product. They have a lot of variety. I definitely recommend spending the extra money and get the goat with the cheese already melted taco. And just eating less tacos. I always dislike to give a bad review, but I think I can only be fair and honest with the review so that hopefully the restaurant will learn and correct what's necessary. Service: 1 out of 5; we waited 30 minutes to get our dine in food. Quality and Taste of Food: 1 out of 5; the birria tasted burnt, super salty, and spicy. The rice tasted like if it was a week old, all they did was warm it up. The beans tasted burnt. It all tasted like it was left overs. The birria pizza was plain, no toppings. It was like a frozen cardboard pizza dough with slopped on birria. The tortillas were soggy burnt like if they had been sitting around for a while. The birria consome didn't have any flavor and tasted watered down. It just tasted like oil. The salsa bar was a mess, it was not fresh. We are in a pandemic and it was not clean nor were there any covid precautions. Over all, our party of 6 was disappointed in the service and food. We were excited. With a name like Birrieria Gordo, and the branding inside, we thought we would be enjoying a nice family dinner after a long day. I hope this review reaches the owners and managers. I visit you restaurant weekly to celebrate taco Tuesday with my elderly Grandfather, this is the highlight of his week. I want to let you know what an asset Fernando is to your business. He's consistently provides excellent customer service to us to every single customer he comes into contact with. Today we visited around 12:30 and it was so busy. I watched Fernando handle each and every customer professionally and efficiently, but most importantly he provided the best customer service with a smile. Every customer left happy, literally a whole restaurant full, because there was no tables available and people were standing. I honestly thought he was a family member of the owners or part owner because he worked as if it was his own, with pride. I asked him and he said he's not family, but he loves his job and just wants to bring the most people possible. Major kuddos to Fernando, he's killing it! Went inside at 2:17 on a Tuesday. There weren't many people in the restaurant itself so I figured it wouldn't be a long wait just to get 5 of their basic $1 tacos but, the food took awhile. By the time I got to my car with my tacos it had been over 30 minutes since my order had been placed. I will say it did seem like they needed more hands in there. The restaurant itself was clean and the staff was friendly and attentive but, seems like they probably need more than 2 people working the whole store on a taco Tuesday. I can't imagine how chaotic it was at the height of lunch time. Tacos themselves were okay. Meat was flavorful and the tortillas were crispy but, two of my tacos only had meat on half while others seemed to be over filled. I'd give them a try again because the food did taste good and everything that was coming out of the kitchen looked tasty. The food is really good but service is what made me give low rating. They are all over the place. Young kids in the kitchen and not pushing orders as quickly as possible. I ordered 6 $1 tacos and a consome. How does it take an hour to get my food?! We decided too try the place out for lunch and walked right up to the counter. Nobody was manning the front counter, waited awhile. Grabbed a menu at the counter but it was for some sushi. The menu on the wall is off to the side which makes it difficult to read while trying to place your order. We thought we were having some birria however apparently they serve sushi (I think). Finally received the food and I was expecting better. Fell short and doesn't compare to the birria I have tasted with more flavor. Had to add some salsa, salt, for flavor. No flavor at all. I decided to get some food on DoorDash and I stumbled upon Birrieria el Gordo (to say the least it was the cover photo of the birria ramen that caught my eye). We ordered birria ramen, a birria burrito, and birria plate. Everything was packaged and sealed to ensure there no tampering with the food by the delivery person, which was a nice reassurance. After waiting all week for these tacos I finally was able to place an order without everything being sold out. I placed my order at 7:05, they quoted me 45 minutes for the wait time, so 7:50 it'd be ready, lengthy but I figured it must be amazing for that long of a wait! ... I called at 8:07 now 17 minutes after my quoted time that my food would be ready, to see what was going on and the kid who answered said it'd be another 5-10 minutes... so 8:17-8:22pm ... at 8:35 one of the kids working there asked me how long had I been waiting I told him almost 2 hours!!! He then asked what my order number was I said 92.. he said that's weird cause we're on 1xx something, I said okay what does that mean he said that they must've gave my food AWAY or misplaced it!!!! I've been waiting almost 2 hours just to hear that they gave my food AWAY!!!! & on top of all of that they ran out of consome so they couldn't even remake half my order!!!! 8:47 I GOT THE TACOS! I waited almost 2 HOURS!! The manager did refund me my total, and did remake the taco portion of my order free of charge, thank you. I get that y'all are busy but if you know you're going to be busy then why would you quote such a "short" waiting period to your customer! & on top of that you all have a number system that CLEARLY doesn't work!! My number was literally in the MIDDLE of my windshield & your customers have to show their numbers before receiving their food and it was still given to the wrong customer!?!? You all have been open for a bit now, you should know when it gets to be busy how long it's actually going to take, and you should train your staff more diligently on your number system.
