I'm always on the hunt for the best Taco Tuesday deals, so when I saw this place offering $1 tacos, I had to check it out! The food itself was okay, but the service really needs improvement; the attitude and shady behavior of the staff made me never want to come back, even with such a good deal. When we walked in, I stopped at the front to ask about their specials to confirm they were still active. The lady told me all meat options were included, then told us to grab a seat. They brought out chips and salsa, which were really good, but the portion of chips was tiny. We skimmed the menu quickly and were ready to order. When the waitress came back, we asked for more chips. She agreed and brought another small basket without mentioning any extra charge. On our third request, while still waiting for food, she suddenly told us chips would cost extra. I thought, okay, maybe after two baskets that makes sense, but it should've been clear from the start. We ordered our tacos, but during that process she told us lengua wasn't part of the special and would be $3.09 per taco. That confused me, since I had asked earlier and was told all meats were included. I declined the lengua because I didn't want to pay $3+ for a small taco. Food took a while but came in decent portions. However, they still brought out a lengua taco, even though I had specifically declined it. She took my plate back to the kitchen to remove it. Some of the meats tasted a bit grimy, but I was trying cuts that were new to me. My favorites were the beef birria and tripa, they were delicious! That said, eating the meat on its own was VERY salty. When we went up to pay, they charged us $4.50 for extra chips. At this point, I was already irritated with their lack of communication and service. My friend paid, but when I noticed they also charged for the lengua taco that had been returned, I was FURIOUS. I walked back to demand a refund. All the staff knew that taco was taken back, so why would they try to charge us for it? She apologized and said they "forgot"... but there were only three tables in the restaurant. How do you forget to check the total before charging customers? We didn't notice it at the register because it was a Square terminal, which only shows the total and doesn't let you scroll through line items. Later, I read other reviews and realized many people had similar experiences. The tacos themselves are fine, and I would have enjoyed the meal if the staff hadn't acted like scammers. Such an underrated spot. Old school and kind of a hole in the wall, but the taco Tuesday and Thursday specials are unmatched. 20 tacos for $25 dollars on Thursdays, and $1 tacos Tuesdays. They have a drive thru which is also rare for smaller restaurants. The Birria is what they're famous for but there isn't a thing on the menu that isn't authentic. The best tacos in DFW. read more

The food was really good! I got a bean burrito with cheese and avocado. The tortilla was especially delicious. The music was annoying and loud and could have been much quieter for the small space so the ambience wasn't my favorite. But the service was great, they were very friendly with no communication barriers and got the food out rather quickly, everything was fresh and tasted great. I'll definitely come back to try more. One of the most authentic places and that is saying a lot considering that I am Latino and have had my fair share of Tacos de Birria! AND........ They have a drive thru! Which just makes it so much more of a dinner option dure to not having to get out of my car lol! The flavor is on point, eating at the location is nice as well, and they have snacks! Salsas are nice and spicy and drinks deliver as well. I could eat their food any day of the week and for the amount of competition they have in the surrounding area, they definitely stand out. Ordered tortas, they were a complete mess. They felt wet. It's like they just smash the beans into it and all the ingredients. The meat tasted horrible like rubber. Me and someone else got one (different meat) and we both ended up eating soup at home and barely biting these things. They also commented their meat tasted old even though I hadn't mentioned anything about mine. It's just very angering to pay such a high price for honestly trash preparation. We waited almost an hour for our food, only to have it come out wrong even after the waitress read back our order before putting it in. The food is very good and so was the tepache . The machito is my favorite. I always order aguas frescas when at an authentic Mexican restaurant but was disappointed at the lack of quality of the Jamaica and melon , they use soda machine fake aguas frescas . Stopped by on our way home to get a to-go placed. Even though they were about to close, they were so accommodating and took our order without complaining. The kitchen was still opened and did a great job with our street tacos (they have a variety of meats) and I ordered the chicken flautas with rice and beans as a side. As expected the food didn't disappoint and the service didn't either. Will definitely be back to experience their sit down service. The food was enjoyable, however, my experience soured when I went to pay the bill at the register. Our server tallied up the total ($80+), including an 18% gratuity for my family of five (3 adults, 2 kids), without presenting an itemized bill. She turned the screen for me to insert my credit card and all it had was the total amount, plus an option to leave a tip. An ADDITIONAL TIP!! When I asked her if my total included a tip, there was hesitation in confirming its inclusion. I asked to see the itemized bill and that's when I saw the 18% gratuity that was added without telling me. Had I not asked, I would have given another tip. Good late night eats. We came in about 9:40 pm and they closed at 10 pm. They allowed us to still dine in and didn't rush us out. The chips on the nachos are homemade- they weren't fried hard - when I received them they were really soft and chewy. The Tacos and quesadillas were wonderful! The rice was PERFECT!! This is a pleasant surprise. Real Mexican food that is really good. Just had lunch here and had the Mole Con Carnitas plate (see the picture). Awesome! Also had a Al Pastor taco,which was also great. I've passed by here a few times in the past two months and have been to the restaurants that have been at that location before it - hopefully this one's a keeper! This was the first time that I have had Birria (lamb) at a Taqueria (of sorts) and food from the Mexican state of Jalisco, but I would like to think my experience went fairly well. My host/waitress/server/cashier was courteous, knowledgable, attentive and prompt from the get go...of course, the restaurant was empty when I came in around 7pm on a wednesday, but I don't think that had too much of an effect. Just ask if you don't understand the spanish terminologies and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help. When I came in, I didn't expect a sit-down feel nor the free chips and (interesting, but good) a bowl of carrot-onion "salsa" that came soon after I had sat down at my table, which was all a pleasant surprise. As I wrote in my picture, the carrot-onion bowl was fragrantly acidic with a nice kick, and the chips had a delicate char - good start so far. The ambiance is that of a bright, fluorescent lit taco bell...which this was a while back...no matter, the "cowboy/girl" themed pieces were a quirky, amiable touch to an otherwise somewhat "lightly brash"establishment...I would recommend routing the fluorescent units into dimly lit individual hanging pedants to create some intimacy and not have everything so jarring so late at night...of course, you do have two other locations, so what do I know... I ordered three tacos, birria, tinga, and pastor. The lamb was tender and succulent, spiced decently, and, with the tortillas (a little dry, but a good base), green (it has an acceptable pungency for what it is, but I would have liked more heat) and red salsas, lime, cilantro, onion, and adding the carrot/onion mix they give you at the start of your meal, the taco was well-rounded and filling - It was the star of the night. The pastor (shredded, spiced pork) and tinga (I think chicken) fell a little short, but helped in the stuffing process. Bathrooms were clean, stocked, and laced with the aromatic scent of wonderful artificial deodorizers - not bad. Not bad at all. Water - fairly neutral...which is nice from what you usually get from the City of Garland. A refreshing palate cleanser. Would I go back? Sure. I had my fill o' the night for $3.25, a decent, certainly respectable meal, and a clean, quiet environment to stew in my thoughts. I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED AT THE SERVICE I JUST RECEIVED from their establishment. I have been coming here for years (since I've lived in Texas 2015) and have always loved the food and at times ignored the bad service/the amount of being ignored. But this time no way! There was a new young lady taking my order and she was sweet but to her coworkers that I know have been there for a while I watched as they rolled their eyes at me several times and when I asked for a hot sauce (not extra) but simply one with my Togo order they had a 2-3 minute conversation in Spanish as if I was asking for something that didn't come with my meal that I had just paid for. We love the REAL JALISCO-STYLE food at Birrieria Aguinaga! This is a great use for a former Taco Bell. More real Mexican places ought to take over Taco Bells. We are adventurous, and whenever we come here are the only Anglos in the place. That means it's our kinds place!! Lamb birria is delicious and tender, served on a plate in a delicious broth (consome) or dry (sin consome) if you prefer. It's delicious either way!! We like the Plato Mix which is a mix of Lamb meat birria and lamb tripe. Lamb tripe looks unappetizing, but is tender, succulent, and delicious!!
