I've been coming to Desperado's for years, so this review isn't coming from someone unfamiliar with the restaurant. Unfortunately, since the ownership change, the experience just hasn't been the same. The customer service is still decent, and I genuinely enjoy their spicy Mexican martini -- that's honestly the main reason I still stop by. However, the food quality has noticeably declined. Over the past year, I've experienced stomach issues after eating here, which had never happened to me before under the previous ownership. I'm not sure if it's a change in ingredients, preparation methods, or sourcing, but something is clearly different. It's disappointing because this used to be a go-to spot. I truly hope the new management takes a closer look at the food quality and consistency. There's a strong history here, and it would be great to see it restored. read more

Great service and the restaurant is designed really cute and unique! The bar is small but the drinks are tasty and strong. The FOOOD! I.got the crab enchiladas with beans and rice and they were delicious!! Creamy, crab tasted fresh, just the right amount of heat. My husband got the fajita combo and was equally as pleased with his fresh everything was! Chips were warm and salsa was good and spicy. We loved that they bring a spicy salsa and no so spicy as well. We've gone three times and each time we've gotten the same items. Quality and taste never changed- on one occasion we went pretty close to their closing time and STILL...great quality and service. Nice family owned Mexican restaurant since 1976. Located off Campbell Rd at Jupiter Where Garland and Richardson meet. Food is good specializing in Tex-Mex fare Daily lunch specials. One of the few restaurants serving puffed tacos. Rice and beans complimented my plate . Additional diner had enchilada covered in queso with pork tamale - rice and refried beans. Chips and hot sauce were standard. Bar was a center of activity and well made drinks were served. Great lunch crowd and regulars commented that dinner was exceptional I recommend this restaurant for casual dining and a place to meet friends for a drink and meal . read more

Food still bland. I ordered nachos. Bland. Room temperature. Very little flavor. Who wants room temperature nachos? I don't know why I tried this place again. It may have outlived its purpose. Very disappointing. Waiter was very attentive. I just can't believe the nachos are so. Oil I could touch them and they had no heat. Even the plate was cool. Waste of my money. When I asked for my ticket I mentioned,very politely to the waiter that the nachos came to the table cold. He brought the manager over who apologized and offered to make me fresh nachos. I thanked him for his offer and said I prefer to pay for the food and leave. He said there would be no charge. I'm still not going back. Nachos! How hard can that be? read more

Our company had Desperados cater our Christmas party at The Atrium Events venue in Garland, Tx. This was the best food and hospitality experience ever, from the delicious appetizers to the scrumptious entrees. They delivered! I hope this will be a tradition in the years to come. read more

I went there for a work get together. The place looks like any typical tex-mex restaurant. Clean, spacious and the ambiance was typical of a mexican restaurant. Service provided that evening was pretty good, no complains there. My main gripe about this place was about my food. It was by far the worst food experience I have ever had at a mexican restaurant, EVER! I ordered the ceviche appetizer and once it arrived, I was unsure if it was what I ordered. If you look at the photos I took you can clearly see that this ceviche was like 95% tomatoes. I even tried to scoop around and try to look for the fish but there was hardly any, if that. It was the worst try at making ceviche I have ever encountered. The olives on top of the dish were not good at all and made the dish even worse. I cant believe they call this ceviche, when its 95% tomatoes. Its easy to make ceviche, ive made it at home before but this place obviously found a way to make it difficult and not appetizing at all. Do yourself a favor and do not order this. After this experience, I would definetely not go back to this place, there's way better places than this. It was so bad, I was going to complain to the manager but it wasnt worth the effort, plus I was there with coworkers. Didnt want to be "that guy". My husband and I have been coming here for over 10 years. Before I met him, I was visiting for 5 years. That's 15 years. Desperados was always where we celebrated anything special. Unfortunately, the quality of service has forced us to never come back. Desperados used to be a place that gave you an experience of being a part of a family. We literally were here once a week for 10 years! But the waitstaff is just horrible now. So bad that even the food can't save it. I saw the manager kissing all the waitresses on several occasions too. Maybe it's the culture? We love this place. My wife and I have been dining at Desperados since they opened on Greenville Avenue back in 1976 IIRC. So having Desperados Dos in our neighborhood is a good thing. We love dining here and typically are in at least once a week. Thursday's is our favorite as the desperados tacos are the special that night- $10.99 for chicken, $12.99 for beef. Service is usually very good. We have had an off night here and there. Everyone has those days. I can usually overlook it. We have another couple we typically joins us that drives from Addison to eat here. He asked for extra pickles jalapeño slices on his chicken enchilada and was told there would be a charge for them. I was embarrassed. This is just bad business IMO. Anyway, he got it sorted. Food was excellent. We love this place. read more

This is a nice small restaurant that serves Tex Mex. The food was tasteful and the atmosphere was very nice and lively. There was a wait time of 45 minutes to be seated. I had the enchiladas with I believe crab meat. Service for us seemed slow as it took a while to have our order taken, thus the three stars. Came here for lunch with coworkers to celebrate a birthday and they raved about it all the way there. I think my expectations were a bit high from all the hype so I ordered their most popular entree: the Steak Argentina. I ordered it medium rare, but I received it more on the side of medium well. I wasn't too upset about that, but the rice was also bland, and my coworker even noted it tasted lighter than usual so maybe we came on a subpar day. He got the Crabmeat Enchiladas which was good! They serve you chips and salsa as starters and they do have a lunch menu. Overall, the food is decent and the restaurant is nice. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to eat here, but I'm glad to have given it a try. No complaints about the service either! read more

The Food first- don't let life go by without eating the famous Desperado tacos! I prefer beef. I have found nothing like these crispy fried in flour tortillas, with a taste you will crave that's of a kind in the entire metroplex except at their two restaurants. I've driven over an hour each way to get them. They are that good. Atmosphere is nice, patio at Shiloh location in case you dog comes along and the best friendly service around. All the food is good but I get the Desperado Tacos because it's the only opportunity to have them. read more

I love Desperados!! Find me here on Wednesday's when they have $2.55 margaritas all day and happy hour all day Sunday! And their margaritas are good especially when you add a shot of grand marnier! Prices are fantastic, food has always been consistently good for me! I went with a friend. We sat at the bar and it was perfect for us. The atmosphere was nice - they had traditional/classic Mexican music playing in the background, and we were still able to talk to each other fine as we watched sports on the TVs at the bar. I got 2 enchiladas, one sour cream chicken and one beef in chili sauce. I went with a friend. He customized his and got 2 shrimp enchiladas with sour cream. The location is a little easy to miss so pay attention on arrival! The environment was clean and on the darker side with lighting but that was not a problem for me. Our server was very attentive and polite the entire time. As for the meal: The ceviche need more lime and salt but was very large and had more than enough for 2 people. I ordered the house margarita at a great price of $5 it was refreshing and strong just how I like them. Our plates were big to the point we both had left overs however, each of us did like our meal entirely. My chicken was well seasoned and the melted cheese was everything. My charro beans were good and the fresh guacamole and cooked veggies were great compliment to my chicken. The crabmeat enchilada were a new experience entirely for me. I enjoyed the avocado sauce with the crabmeat as a combo! I'm not sure if I'd ordered the meal for myself but I did like flavor. This may be only because I had my fill of seafood from the appetizer. Had a good meal at Desperados this weekend! It's in a little shopping center that doesn't look like much, but when you walk into the restaurant you're immediately transported. The bar and the booths and the atmosphere is just pretty! Our server was awesome and everyone working there was kind. They have free chips and salsa. Their chips are the thicker type and their salsa was good with a little bit of spice. I ordered chicken enchiladas and my dad tried all three enchiladas and a tamale. The prices here are really good! $11 for 2 enchiladas, rice and beans, and $14 for 4 tex mex items with rice and beans. Love! I was really impressed with their sopapillas! They were dense and full of yummy dough. Sometimes sopapillas are just the outer shell, but these were full of deliciousness. They were also big compared to other sopapillas I've had! I love coming to Desparados!! Today's experience was not good. I ordered something from the bruch menu, and I had to send it back because it wasn't correct. They remade it a 2nd time, and it still was not correct. The waitress didn't speak a lot of English, so she didn't really understand what the issue was. The manager never came to the table to see what the issue was or to apologize!!. After the waitress brought the ticket and I paid, I flagged the manager down. I explained to him what happened, as if he didn't already know. He simply said, " Oh, Im sorry , but did you get your meal corrected?" I replied, " Yes, I did after odering a totally different item. I waited at least 45 minutes to eat. I had to suggest that I shouldn't have been charged before he decided to reverse the charge. This experience was very unprofessional. Fantastic margaritas! They were perfectly balanced with just the right amount of kick. The ceviche was also very fresh and flavorful, with a great mix of citrus and spice. Horrible. A friend and I came in on 09/29 for the first time and upon seating our server brusquely walked by asking for our drink orders as he passed, not even looking at us as if he was in a rush. Please note it was not busy at all. He came back a minute later and asked us if we knew what we wanted to order. We didn't as it had only been 90 seconds and he seemed irritated as we ran to the bathroom for a second. After returning to our seats, he came back and my friend ordered first. She wanted enchiladas with queso, which somehow is a different menu item than normal enchiladas. He said "Ugh, you should have told me first. Now I have to start over." She gave him her order again during which he started physically gesturing with his hand telling her to hurry up. Then he asked what I wanted and when attempting to order the four cheese enchiladas, he loudly interrupted telling me I needed to get two instead of four. On what planet should someone else, much less my server at an establishment, tell me how much or what to order? I told him again I wanted four, not two, and he proceeded to insist I should get two. He finally backed down, but felt the need to say "Wow, you're hungry girls." We were both more than uncomfortable by then and he still saw fit to ask "Is it your first time here?" with the nastiest tone. Insane, I've never had anything like this happen before. read more
