December, 29, 2024 This was our first visit to Jhonny's Mexican Restaurant. We chose it based on reviews. The outside looks old and rundown. The inside could use an update as well. Don't be fooled by appearances. The service was great! The food was served hot and was very flavorful and reminiscent of our travels to Mexico. This isn't your typical Tex-mex. It's definitely more authentic Mexican cuisine. I ordered the chicken green tomatillo enchiladas. The tomatillo sauce was the best I've ever had in my 61 years. It's a 5 star in my book and definitely worth putting this on our regular rotation of restaurants. read more

The avocado chicken enchiladas were a bit salty but still really good. The fajitas were great and a great value compared to other larger places. The restaurant is not very clean. That was already a red flag. There were paint cans, wood pallets, and other stuff by the side entry inside. Talk about a hazard. I don't like that they only have black beans. The queso blanco was good, but finding a beetle in the refried beans was not!! Will not be back to this place. read more

Surprisingly a delicious find in Garland! I used yelp (of course) when I was visiting my sister in Dallas. This popped up with some decent reviews, so we gave it a shot. And to my surprise it was a hit! The margaritas were delicious with various flavors. Chips were homemade, and crispy hot and fresh. Hot sauce was incredible. Oh Jhonnys.... How I love you. The fajitas are awesome... The chicken is nice, but the steak here is as good as anywhere. The crispy tacos are a can't miss. Chimichangas, burritos, rice and beans are all so so so good. The salsa! The creamy green one is one of my favorite restaurant salsas. It. Is. Hot. The red salsa is a bit more traditional and also very tasty. The queso.... I challenge you to find a better tasting queso than Jhonnys. It's like a queso blanco, with bright green peppers in it, and if I'm not mistaken, you can order it full of Jhonnys flavorful ground beef. So good! My wife's favorite. 4/5 because I just don't love their chips. I know, i know... The salsa and queso fan boy doesn't like the chips... I usually order the tortillas lol. I just want to say this... This Cozy Tex-Mex restaurant off of Beltline and Garland was just what we needed for a sunday lunch. Food was great! Their rice and beans tasted homemade and fresh. Their Avocado Enchiladas were fantastic. Service was good! I really loved all of the murals inside! Hope to be back! read more

Holy Frijoles Slap my saddle!!! That was the BEST dang poblano relleno I have ever eaten!!! Geez Louise the corn and mushroom sauce and grilled chicken tasted so fresh. In this area, Jhonny's is one of my favorite restaurants so far (only lived here less than 4 months). Definitely worth a try and both the seafood tacos (per my wife) chimichangas (me) are very good. That said, part of the high ratings are due to the fact the restaurant is on an island. If you live in and or near Inspiration, rest assured, it's good food. But if you drive from Plano, Sachse, Murphy, Wylie expecting superior food you'll likely be disappointed. After many recommendations to try this place, my wife and I stopped in for dinner last night and it did not disappoint. Maria and the guy that was a manager, my wife called him Jose, but I am not sure that was it, were both amazing. Mango margarita and then a premium one on the rocks were awesome. Had the queso with brisket(yum), steak and shrimp fajitas(steak was the most tender fajita steak I have ever had) and the steak ala Mexicano. It was about 10 AM on a Saturday and we were looking for somewhere to eat before started our day. We performed a search and found this place was opened so we would check it out. I never knew this business was here but I'm glad we found it. Our waitress was very friendly and hospitable offering us warm chips with a couple of different salads. So delicious! We also order the guacamole which was fresh and delicious as well! Once it came time to order entrees, the waitress recommended the chicken sour cream enchiladas. I obliged and I'm so happy I did. They were delicious as well as the beans and rice that accompanied them. My husband got the brisket quesadilla which I sampled and it was delicious as well. This place has now become a frequent visit and favorite of ours. We also bring our neighbors and other friends here. The food and service is undeniably amazing! As a Hispanic, I tend to be very picky when it comes to food from my motherland only because I know how it's suppose to taste Their rice tastes EXACTLY like how my grandmother makes it not like most places where it seems like Ratatouille slipped & dumped a whole bottle of cumin in it. Their tamarindo marg is DELICIOUS!! Does not taste artificial like many other places. The overall atmosphere is very welcoming & friendly. Did somebody say Chimichangas? Oh yeah baby! Don't look any further, you've got to try them here. This place has NAILED-it. When I say "them" I mean the steak and chicken one are both equally delicious! My husband prefers the steak with queso, but I like the chicken one too. I've also tried their sour cream chicken enchiladas, which were yummy as well. They always have their to-go orders ready on time. I actually prefer to just grab my food and eat it at home. Food is good. You get two types of salsa with your chips. Both the red and green were delicious. I ordered beef fajitas which came out tender and with a good amount of beef. Menus are old so prices are not up to date. I think fajitas were listed as $13 but was charged $16.50 which didn't shock me with how things are these days. Came by here after seeing it as a "hot and new" restaurant near the ninja warrior gym we were at today. The food and prices were very good and the service was even better! UPDATE: My bf and daughter got sick after eating the chimichangas. Well, this was our first time coming here, and once we got here - we had to wait about 10-15 mins for a table of 5. Mind you that we in the doors first with no wait and a few other families came afterwards and got seated before us. Okay. Finally got seated and then they serve us the salsas in these mini to-go cups while I see other tables with actual saucers. Chips were okay. Had to ask for our waters to be refills quite a few times. Not really attentive. Took forever to get our food, and was served without silverware and had to ask the waiter for some. My taco plate came with corn tortillas and I had asked for flour...the chimichangas were okay. Kids taco plates were ok. My beef fajita tacos were a bit chewy.
