Ernesto's is an excellent place to eat. I've been going there for several years now so that says something by itself. The food is very good and I can always tell when I go to a restaurant that if the chips and salsa are good then the food will be good also. The staff there are mostly a family business and they are very friendly and attentive. Some of the best service and friendly people I've encountered. The atmosphere is very relaxing and clean. I try to make it in at least once a week but lately I've been on a diet trying to lose a few pounds. I think it's time for me and my girlfriend to make a trip there this week. Yesterday, my wife and I went to a joint called "Ernesto's Mexican Restaurant. A little hole in the wall in Garland, TX. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted, seated and brought chips and salsa which I devoured. For starters, we had the guacamole salad and queso. We had to stop eating the queso and guacamole to save room for the main course because it was that good. My wife ordered the ground beef and shredded chicken enchiladas with all the fixings. They were very good with the red sauce and Spanish rice. The beef had a very good seasoning and the chicken had a taste like it had been marinated for a few hours. I had the beef fajitas. The beef was tender, succulent and seasoned well. The only thing that I didn't like was that the fajitas had a sweet taste to it. I believe the sweet taste was from sweet bell peppers or sweet onions, nevertheless, it was too sweet for my taste buds. We enjoyed ourselves, enjoyed the margaritas and the starters, but next time, I'll try some shrimp nachos. I give Ernesto's Mexican Restaurant three out of five drinks. Cheers! read more

Perfect location in Garland next to the Texas DPS Driver License Center. Terrific Tex- Mex restaurant. Menu has traditional choices including enchiladas, fajitas, and tacos. The soft cheese tacos with queso and rice and beans combination was delicious. The soft tortillas corn and flour were steaming hot . The chips and salsa were a perfect starter. This visit was my first. The customer service was good. My party and I went around lunch. It was not too busy. The menus are printed under a glass on the table (see pic). My party did not rave about their dishes. I had a problem with mine. I had the chimichanga. This dish is usually my go to dish at any new Mexican restaurant I go to, because it's the one dish I felt could not be messed up. There is a first time for everything. The outside was over fried and the inside was partly cooked. My waitress made it right by removing the charge from my ticket. I did not ask her too, but she noticed I hardly touched my dish. She asked if I wanted something else and I responded, "No. Thank you." As a result of her kindness, I will give them another try, but this first experience was not great. Ernesto is my favorite go to place and Garland. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you enter, you get to choose where you want to sit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have a banquet room if you have a large party I'm sure that can be reserved.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a full bar and I always order a margarita. I'm a vegetarian so my favorite thing on the menu is las enchiladas Mexicanas. I always ask for a little bit extra sauce on the side and limes. Every time I go there always super accommodating of my child who will eat the enchilada salad and rice with only ground meat. I saw this place quite by accident and checked out reviews which are very positive and decided to give it try. So, we went for dinner on a Friday night and it quite busy with families. It's a casual place that is not pretentious in any way. Chips and salsa were very good--chips were not greasy and the salsa had a bite but was not overly hot. Very flavorful. I liked it a lot. We started with bean and cheese nachos which the wife was not impressed with but I thought they were good for what they are, bean and cheese. If we ordered the deluxe it would have more flavor, but I wanted something simple. We ended up there during happy hour so my house frozen was only $4. The wife's house rocks was $6, not a happy hour price but regular price, still a good deal. They were flavorful and not medicinal, plus had a kick. I had the chicken fajita and it was among the best I ever had. Chicken was tender, flavorful and tasty. Really, really, good and at $12.95 it was a deal. The wife had the enchiladas Plobanas (yes, that is how you spell it) which were chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. She was not impressed with the mole but I thought it was not bad at all. Some other review mentioned poor quality rice and beans but I thought they were just fine. Nothing wrong with rice and beans at all IMO. Our server would disappear for periods of time but overall service was polite and friendly.
