If you are looking for authentic Indian street food you have found your go to spot. W/ just a little bit of guidance anyone can roll in there & done like a pro. Before coming pack a small package of Clorox disinfectant wipes, a reusable shopping bag (leftovers ), hand sanitizer, a table cloth & small candle, nice disposable plates, a couple coasters to slide under the legs of the wobbly table, a wine bottle opener, and some silver ware. When you get there order. Right away! The whole order. Then find a table, clean, shim the legs to make it stable, spread the table cloth, lite the candle & then get your drink on. The restaurant provides paper plates and cutlery but since they are of low quality bring some better quality items as listed above. I patronize Biryani City for one reason and that is I love the Mysore Masala Dosa. This shit is the truth!!! Then I chop up the Vegetable Manchurian & gobble it down all together. For the table we ordered Shrimp Curry, Chicken Butter Masala, (out of this world amazing) onion kulcha & butter naan. Since all the food is brought out in to go containers it is very easy to share everything & haul it home. Don't get me wrong, the ambiance in this place is horrific at best. The food comes out as it's cooked so you might be halfway thru the meal & still not see your naan. The cleanliness is questionable at best & the rest room is scandalous. After all is said and done paying is simple & since there is no service staff tipping isn't required. I love BC & would love to give these restauranteurs 5 stars. The quality of the food demands it, however, the complete disregard for ambiance, cleanliness, & customer comfort drips the rating to 4/5. Fragrant and packed tightly, I was very excited to try the boneless chicken biryani because many of my classmates and colleagues have recommended this Indian restaurant for its authenticity. However, I found my dish to be a little too indulgent as it was oily and salty to me. Honestly, I definitely overate though because it was delicious. I find myself having many contradictions about this place. This one bowl lasted me three meals though! The chicken to rice ratio is veryyyy nice. I tried to be conservative with the spiciness, but I realized quickly that I should've gotten it spicier. I think I'd be open to trying Biryani City again. The portions were very generous and of it worth getting again. Goat curry: spicy and extremely flavorful, little pieces of tender goat simmered to perfection. Would prefer bigger pieces but nothing to complain about Egg biryani: 4 eggs in one order! Not dry not soggy, really the taste I was looking for, every inch of it. Went to a new place for lunch! First we were dissapointed we could not sit in for the lunches from the old pictures online people raved about. You can sit in, but they will give you food as take out. I ordered via doordash and waited an hour for the absolute worst meal ever. The naans were stale and tough, clearly cheap Costco or Walmart rejects. The butter chicken was completely tasteless. The Apollo fish was flavorless. Their quality has hit rock bottom. I was at my friends house place and he ordered for a quick evening snack cut Mirchi and Chana masala.cut mirchi was fantastic, Onions that came with the cut Mirchi was seasoned perfectly and went very well with the tea.however the Chana masala had a lot of oil floating so we had to drain the oil and we used it .Chana masala was spicy and cooked really well, only part that we didn't like was the oil content . Ehhhh, wasn't too impressed with the chicken or goat biryani. Both the rices were over powered by the elachi/cardamom flavor. Felt like I was biting into one every bit I was taking of the rice. For a place called biryani city you would expect them to have different types of biryani but not too many options. Also saw the chef walking around without a mask. So that didn't sit to well with me. We ordered multiple things including an appetizer, Punjabi subzi naan and of course biryani. For vegetarians, there is only 1 biryani options. Come to think of it, there are only 5 types of biryani including different meats too so I am not sure how is this biryani city. The appetizer we ordered was a bit dry for us. The subzi and daal fry was ok ( I have had better). Chef's naan was pretty good. I was looking forward to more options for vegetarian biryani. Among the better Indian restaurants in the Philly area. Went with a large group and ordered a lot. Particularly impressed with Chicken Chettinadu and apollo fish. Kerela parotta was just the way they serve it back home. Biriyani was nothing to write home about, though. They do not serve Dum Chicken biriyani. It's actually biriyani rice with something like chicken 65. Not bad, just not my taste. Goat biriyani had that particular meat aroma that I'm not too fond of. I have only gotten take-out here, as they are not yet doing indoor dining due to COVID-19, so this review is only about the food; not ambiance as I haven't set foot inside beyond pickup. Surprisingly, this place is in the corner of an unassuming strip mall in an out-of-the-way area (though it is one of three locations (Allentown PA, Norristown / Eagleville PA, Newark DE). I've tried many restaurants in general, and not just locally but around the world. The Goat Chettinad has such umami. The Chicken Tika Masla has such great flavor and is creamy. And both, when ordered Very Spicy, were just the right level for me (I like spicy food). These two were dishes where I had to tell myself to stop eating: I was no longer hungry and was just enjoying the taste too much -- like a bag of potato chips. I am so disappointed with the Chana Batura I ordered here last week. The batura was crispy like papad, hard and flat.. something that Any chef can see and tell it is over fried... I opened it within 20 min of picking it up and then called the restaurant to complain about this. Some guy took the phone and said someone will call from management to see what can be done. Biryani city is my favorite restaurant on this side of Philadelphia suburbs. First impressions: It is a rather smaller establishment for the kind of business they run. There are sufficient tables, but that can change quickly at peak hours. The seating is comfortable and there is always random Indian movie dance numbers playing in the background. The guys are pretty friendly and courteous. They are a busy bunch but they always speak politely. Under the hood: They easily have the best Biryani to offer in this region. What makes it good is the consistency of the flavour and the tenderness of the meat. The meat is evenly cooked and the heat levels are acceptable. I have also noticed that Biryani City provides generous portions and hopefully they continue to keep that going. Having said that my personal favorite are their dosas. They are just perfect. I especially like the ghee roast paper dosa. It goes well with the assortment of chutneys. The sambar can be inconsistent for salt levels but is still a good bet. Recent I tried their kadai chicken and that was pretty awesome too. The sauce was very rich and bursting with tremendous flavor! Service: Service is probably the weak link for Biryani City and it is mostly due to being understaffed. When it gets crowded, the staff is not able to catch up with the pace of the demand. This has limited my ability to dine-in often here. I also get worried about bring my little kid in here as the wait times can get a little frustrating. I think if they had more space and couple more people, this place could become something special. In summary: This is a great place to get your Indian gastro fix.
