I have always loved Bistro 83. It has been a while since my last visit, and it appears the menu has been updated - and I love the additional choices. Today I ordered the Portobello burger. The portobello mushroom was marinated in balsamic. I'm not typically a fan of balsamic, but since I love Portobello I gave it a try. Unfortunately the balsamic marinade was too much, I almost choked with the first 3 bites. Both of my daughters tried the mushroom and agreed that it was too much balsamic marinade. This was the first time I returned a meal. Our waitress, Brenda, was AMAZING. She quickly had me order something else, which was promptly brought out to me (and it was delicious). Throughout the rest of our meal she continually apologized. I was not angry...I understood. She made this possibly bad experience a good one. My daughters enjoyed their meals. (Unfortunately my granddaughter did not enjoy hers - she ordered mac-n-cheese - and according to her it was tasteless.) Regardless, I love Bistro83 and I will go back, and the wonderful way we were treated is one of the reasons. read more

A great addition to North Ridgeville! We thought we might get glorified bar food, but we were pleasantly surprised with the menu. Fresh tuna, seared steak and oysters too!! The tuna was seared and seasoned, full of flavor and it literally melted in your mouth. The oysters had the perfect brine. Of course we also opted for the pretzels, I mean bar food at its best. The pasta was disgusting to say the least. Besides that... everything else was bad. It was our first time visiting after wanting to try something new, and I can safely say I will not be returning. The food took 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to our table. We ordered the Bourbon Burger and shrimp scampi pasta. The pasta was so over done that it was basically mushy and would break when you picked it up. There was no flavor or sauce and only had five shrimp. The burger was very mediocre, at best fast food quality. After all this nothing was compensated for, and instead they provided us with two very poor desserts, with very poor presentation (attached as a photo). I will give it the benefit of the doubt, as I heard good things from friends. But we will not be coming back. read more

The best happy hour on the west side. How often can you get a succulant lobster tail during happy hour? The service was great, fun cocktails, but the food was the star of the show. The only negative, trying to get an old lady up on one of the barstools. The place is cozy, comfortable, and easy to get to. Staff is friendly, kind, accommodating and knowledgeable. Entrance is winter ready with 2 layers of doors to receive you. We were sat right away. The server assistant hit us with water as we were seated and Lynn was prompt to follow. She steered us toward the Steak au Poivre. It was so very flavorful and tender. That peppercorn rub was popping and very present. We are the sharing type so we can taste different levels of the menu: Tuna nachos were great be sure to work to the sauce at the bottom and dip the chips that need it. House salad was a bunny's delight with the candied nuts and goat cheese and dried blueberries. The sides were got were also no stranger to seasoning and careful crafting: truffle fries and the bacon tomato risotto. These babies were way better than fingerling potatoes. Finally we capped it off with a slice of key lime cheese cake from Slices in Parma. Not too light no too rich, just right. Single stall bathroom. Lots of TVs. We went there for my husbands birthday and no server appeared until we flagged down the host. people who arrived after us were served before we even had drinks. Been here many times and always good...some of our faves are the pork volcano, the bolognese, their risottos, and we love adding a small lobster tail for a relatively small price to anything we order. Steak Au Poivre 9/10. Steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, just how I asked for. The color was beautiful pink/red. Peppercorn crust was a strong pepper flavor. I'm not too huge on pepper, but it was tolerable. If you don't like pepper- this is not for you. The cream sauce was great, i love my sauces- so I personally would have liked a little more. Rosemary potatoes had a good flavor. The rosemary was not overpowering. They were really good, didn't need any butter or salt or anything added! Vegetable was Brussel sprouts- I substituted for the risotto. Mushroom & Bacon Risotto 10/10. It was very flavorful between the mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes and cheese flavors. Absolutely fantastic. One of the best risottos I've ever had. Calabrian Shrimp & Pasta 9/10. (Kyles rating) Shrimp was phenomenal, seasoned well and cooked perfectly. Didn't get any sausage though even thought it's supposed to have it in there. Didn't notice any Calabrian peppers either. Sauce was very rich and creamy and could taste the garlic. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Pork Volcano. I didn't eat this, but someone else ordered in our party. The meat was so tender it was falling off the bone while the server was carrying it. Crème Brûlée 6/10. Didn't know that this was not traditional crème brûlée. It tasted like peanut butter to me. Wasn't very excited about it after the first bite. Finally noticed this great restaurant, that I have driven by a hundred times. Never paid attention to the name on the building, I actually thought it was a medical building, Well when I did notice, I decided I was going to try it. When we entered the restaurant , it was amazing inside very classy and up to date. It was mid afternoon, so it was empty inside. We were greeted and sat at our table right away. Our server Jessica was terrific. Answered our questions and was on top of her game. We ordered the Poke nachos and Shrimp Tacos for our appetizers. The Poke Nachos had raw tuna over some amazing fried wontons with an Asian sauce that'll drive you're taste buds wild. The Shrimp Taco were absolutely delicious also with a zingy sauce that made you want more. For our entrées I had the Red Eye Burger and wifey got 7 Pepper Cedar Plank Salmon. The burger was cooked to perfection. the espresso Mayo was on point. The salmon presentation was awesome and perfectly cooked. I also rwaliothat the restaurant filled up pretty quick. Jessica suggested the Keylime pie. It was good enough of a size that we shared a slice. Overall everything was great. This has been a crazy extended weekend. Shary and I drove out to Lorain for the eclipse and started having mystical experiences before we were even halfway to the Ariel Hotel. For example, Shary saw a road sign for an attraction that kind of reminded us of that Frank Lloyd Wright house, Falling Waters. She plops that into the GPS and BAM! GPS says turn right at the next exit. So we get to see that. On the way there we pass a place we went white water rafting! Great memories. And of course, Falling Waters is rad. Anyway, we get to the hotel and the weekend just gets stranger. So fun. Everyone is all spazzing out about the eclipse. We meet a clothing designer. Whatever. So yeah. Back to this spot. Eclipse done. Fancy dinner for us vacationers? An internet search suggested this spot would be worth the 25 min drive from Lorain. And it was. Oysters. Cooked dates. Good drinks. Longtime patron, and am floored at some of the changes. Stopped in on a whim as my fiancé and I have been busy and not as regular customers as we once were. Was greeted by our FAVORITE bartender. Had the Garlic Shrimp appetizer, which was just good, not great which is what I am used to at this establishment. The entrees were very good (chipotle chicken, and crab cakes) though the portions have seemed to go down considerably. The drinks and service at the bar (our usual seating preference) was WONDERFUL per usual. Here's where I saw the largest issue: a female employee (when I asked was told this was the head chef, Kim) came out a little after 8pm on a Saturday and was angry at the bar staff about something and barked at the bartender and literally stomped her foot (all in front of the customers present) and stormed off. I was floored to see this behavior, let alone from a talented chef. In a place I have always regarded as a bit more high end, this was extremely unprofessional and downright childish. Most adults in a working environment have enough sense to take any heated issues out of sight of others, particularly customers. I have never in all the years coming here we have never witnessed anything but harmony in the staff interaction, so this was to say surprising. Her food is quite good, but her seemingly bratty, angry behavior could use a little dialing in. The Steak au Poivre is simply delicious. The sauce that comes with it is amazing. The steak stands alone by itself but the peppercorn and sauce take it from a good to a great. Wife had the Shrimp Carbonara and the shrimp themselves were very chewy. Not what you want for the feature of this entree. The sauce that the pasta was in was just ok. Nothing great about this dish. The portions for sides and appetizers are a little disappointing as are the prices. The service was good and bad- Good due to the great waiter we had but bad due to no place to wait in this establishment so we had to stand outside in the cold. And we were not given bread. We sat in the Wine Tasting Room which was fine since there were no loud tables seated in this small space. Chris was an attentive server and added to the enjoyment of our dinner. Scallops were absolutely perfect. The service was outstanding and the decor great. The only issue I feel bad about for the bartenders is the they reserve tables in the bar area. That leaves empty tables for a long period of time where bartenders and servers miss out on making more money. read more

Portion Size? One of the menu specials was Prime Rib with no mention of the serving size for $42, and a regular menu item was a bone in strip, also with no mention of size, for $49. I opted for the bone in strip and by no means, in my opinion, was it a $49.00 steak. It was 1/2" to 3/4" thick at best. The cooking temp and taste were fine, but for $49 it was a bit tough and I expected a better steak at that price point. The accompanying brussel sprouts were inconsistent, some had a really nice char, others with none. Lousy service, came in on a friday 4pm for early dinner waited on and served by jeff or jeffry only to be forgotten about, never came back to get cocktail or wine refills or to see how dinner was, when he finally showed back up after his disappearing act , our glasses empty an waiting for a box at this point, i commented about lack of service and he copped an attitude , so desert was definitely nixed at that point. The quality and value of the food was diminished buy the poor poor abandonment service. Wont bother to try again , No Customer Service Value at all..... not conducive to a nice dinning out experience. i expect this Quality of service and ambiance from a fast food restaurant. Yummy! My husband and I went here for our anniversary dinner and the food was amazing. I couldn't decided between the braised short ribs or the scallops. Tried this place out for our Valentine dinner. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation and they said our table was ready for us. I had a mango martini which was delicious. The soft pretzels were just okay. They seemed kind of mushy. My chicken was really good and my husband enjoyed his steak. The only downfall was the veggie was brussel sprouts which I am not a fan. We were celebrating our nieces play performance at her school. We checked in to see if we could get a table of 6. The restaurant was not full and in fact , I counted 4 tables empty . I have to say the reaction by the young lady who was handling table assignments was something out of a Saturday night live skit. She told us we needed reservations and it would be difficult to get in . I honestly laughed and asked her if she was ok. It certainly was not welcoming and inviting to a half empty restaurant . I grew up going here and it always lives up to its expectations. I came here for a girls night and we called ahead and made reservations for a Monday just to be safe! And glad we did as it was a little packed in there. We ended up having some glasses of wine and I got the blacken steak and my friend got the flatbread. This place is a favorite. We just got back from New Year's Day B 6pm seating. Some old favorites and tried some new items. New for us : Lobster Flatbread- rosemary cream sauce, provolone cheese, lobster , kale, bacon, cherry tomatoes and a pinch of garlic salt. An old favorite : Steak AuPoive - Coulette Steak with Pepper-crust and cognac & garlic cream sauce served with Rosemary mashed potatoes and veggies.
