Interior casual - nice atmosphere with TV's or a view

Fast upscale food for a ski resort. Enjoyed a Quinoa salad with grilled salmon $20. A fresh salad with mixed greens / only suggestion is that lettuce needs to be pre-washed, because some had a chemical taste. Otherwise, very nice combination of flavors.

Let's face it. We all know that you're not going to get the best food at the best prices on top of a 10,000-foot tall mountain. The skiers, snowboarders, and tourists of all ilk are there for mountain and are pretty much a captive audience for whatever types of food there happens to be on top. We ended up eating at Bistro 14 because a $20 food voucher was included in our gondola tickets. Otherwise, we wouldn't have even attempted an overpriced resort place like this for lunch. Given all of that, it wasn't terrible. The food actually tasted very good (even if costing double its actual value). My husband and I split the charcuterie tray and the turkey pot pie. For two people, this was plenty of food. One of my only complaints is that our server specifically asked if we wanted the pot pie split into 2 plates and I said no. When they brought it out, it was split into two plates. Oh well... Also, there were not nearly enough crackers on the charcuterie tray to go with that much meat and cheese, so we asked for more. All in all, good quality food and not "junk food" so if you're looking to eat healthier on top of the mountain, I'd recommend it over the food-court style places with pizza and burgers. Just be prepared for the prices, including built-in resort gratuity.

Southwestern Baked Oysters - Fresh oysters w/ cornbread sausage stuffing, Oaxaca cheese, white sauce and hot sauce

The views are beautiful and this is the only reason that you would eat here in the evenings. The service was good on this evening. The ahi tuna salad was decent, but I was very disappointed by the portion of the tuna that accompanied the salad. There was only 5 or 6 thinly sliced pieces, so very little protein to make it a meal. The beet salad looked like it had canned beets and could tell that the beet were even roasted. For the price of the salads, I was disappointed with the portions and quality. Also, order the bakes oysters, which was OK and went well with our salads. The one really great point of the restaurant is that it has a wonderful kids' menu. For $10, the kids started with a carrot and fruit plate, then had spaghetti with cheese and a hamburger as their entree (respectively), and then dessert with ice cream+brownie. This worked out well for us. Just for this point, we will come back because as parents I will pretty much eat anything as long as my kids are taken care of. Lastly, if you have a gluten sensitivity, ask for their gluten sensitive menu. They are very accommodating in regards to this dietary requirement. Overall, we would come back to make the most out of the fee for the gondola.

We stumbled upon this place after a snowshoe tour at the top of Eagle's Nest on Vail mountain. A few people were saying that it's not worth it to buy the pass to ride up on the gondola, and the views (in the day anyway) are breathtaking, but we had our lift tickets still so we just rode up. Upon arrival, we were seated right away and had a quirky but attentive waiter. I didn't really notice a whole lot about the atmosphere, not good or bad, but there was a beautiful sectioned photograph of the mountains above the bar. The food was all good, not incredibly memorable but everyone enjoyed their food and was satisfied. I ordered chicken tacos. For me, it was just the right amount of spicy-ness (not much at all) and the rice and beans were nice on the side. Then we asked for a dessert menu, because we are on vacation right?, and he just brought out a small brownie with ice cream and whipped cream and sprinkles on top. They regularly give these to diners but you have to ask, so be sure to do so! It was a nice little treat at the end of our meal!

Mmmm mmm mmm... Chicken Pot Pie!

Located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola from Lion's Head at 10,350 ft (!!!), this was the only waiter service restaurant on the mountain and thank goodness we could get away from the pub and overpriced food court/cafeteria foods found on most ski resort mountains. I was skiing with family all day in Vail and didn't want to go all the way into the village with our gear for a decent lunch. We were all really happy with our food and service there. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was delicious and a pretty big serving. They also have a wide selection of wines and beers. Great views of skiers passing by and there's a nice patio area that's pretty nice to sit out with a cup of hot apple cider if it's sunny. You can also enjoy this restaurant without hitting the slopes, just take the gondola up and down the mountain. Access to Bistro Fourteen via the Eagle Bahn Gondola is free to foot passengers after 2pm Children's Menu: offers a selection of appetizer, entrée, and dessert for just $10

Lobster pasta. I counted the lobster, not bad, 7 medium pieces and 1 large piece but they're overcooked
Marcella G.

I bought the $40 scenic ride ticket and got $20 voucher to eat here. Service was fast, waiter was friendly enough, but they are an overpriced lunch place if I may say so based on my experience. I ordered the lobster pasta. It cost $22 but with tax and gratuity (18% although I eat by myself, maybe because the voucher say so) it ended up to be $27. I will say the price was almost okay for the size, 8 medium pieces of lobster a lot of artichoke and a huge amount of pasta, but the taste was just normal. In fact the lobster was so overcooked I had a hard time chewing on it. Not going to eat here again even with the voucher.

The view!

It was pretty quiet (still off-season), and my husband and I were the only ones there when we walked in around 10. We sat at the bar and had a lovely conversation with Jeremy; I ordered the Gingerbread Man (take on an old fashioned with brown butter washed bourbon, and my husband got the "50 Shades of Green" - definitely one of the most unique cocktails we've ever tried! The description "arugula infused gin, yogurt washed aquavit with Pandan herbs & lime" - it had everything - some sour, some umami, some sweet from the Pandan - what a fun and unique cocktail. Shortly after we walked in, a huge group of 10-12 women walked in followed by some other groups shortly after them. It was a really fun atmosphere and both cocktails were 10/10.

Price: Expect standard Vail pricing for high-end cocktails, with most drinks ranging between $16-$20. Customer Service: The service was fantastic. The staff was incredibly kind and efficient; even though we stayed for quite a while to catch up, we felt welcomed and well-attended to the entire night. Atmosphere This spot has a cool, welcoming vibe that feels very safe. It's the kind of environment where you can really settle in and enjoy the company you're with. The Drinks I ordered the Sangre del Sol. The flavor was amazing, though be warned it is very strong! It's an excellent choice if you enjoy a cocktail with a serious kick, but I ended up letting my friend finish mine after a few sips. Overall Experience I highly recommend Root & Flower for a beautiful setting and top-tier service. Pro Tip: A huge bonus for this location is the parking! You can park for free after 3 PM at the S. Frontage Rd. East garage right nearby. I'll definitely be back!

They weren't too familiar with the breakfast at the places we mentioned, but one person immediately said, "There's The Little Diner right down the street. It's very good and has even been featured on the Food Network." We decided to give it a try, and we are very glad we did. We arrived around 8:30 in the morning and sat at the counter. At the time we were the only customers there. A very nice lady brought us water and got me a coffee while we looked over the menu. It actually took us a while to decide because there were so many great sounding options. As we sat there deciding, more and more people started coming in. My wife ordered the sausage gravy over a biscuit with eggs and cheese grits, and I ordered the Eggs Benedict with potatoes. When the food arrived, everything looked excellent. The flavors matched the presentation too. My wife said the sausage gravy was outstanding, and my Eggs Benedict was excellent as well. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the potatoes were very good, and the hollandaise sauce had great flavor. While sitting at the counter, we spent some time talking with our server. She told us she had been there since shortly after the diner first opened. Unfortunately, she also explained that the building is scheduled to be demolished so condos can be built above the property, and they are unsure whether the diner will be able to return afterward. It's honestly sad to hear about a place this good possibly being pushed out because of rising development and rental costs. I understand building owners want to maximize profits, but it's disappointing when small local businesses that people truly enjoy are forced out by higher rents and redevelopment. Places like this are what give towns character. Overall, this place was excellent. Great food, friendly people, and exactly the kind of local spot you hope to find while traveling.

Dinner reservations are available 30 days out on Open Table, and they go instantly. I heard them quote 2+ hours for walk-ins, so definitely plan ahead if you can! Cocktails: I've always loved their cocktails, so even if you don't have dinner here, you should at least check out the bar. I've never been disappointed in any drink I've gotten. Dinner: - Butternut baba ganoush: all the flavors of baba ganoush but with butternut squash, and the warm pita was great - Fire roasted tomato and chorizo soup: a bit on the thinner side, smoky, interesting - Buttermilk sea salt biscuit: rich, flaky, with extra butter, country ham, and red pepper jelly - Warm pimento cheese: I don't usually care for pimento, but their's is great with grilled bread. They also use this on their burger at lunch - Wood grilled octopus: nice wood fire flavor, great ham hock beans underneath, grilled avocado - Crispy brussels sprouts: interesting flavor with the grilled avocado sikil pak - Wood fired pork chop: tender, generously sized - Grilled cobia: wonderful warming pineapple coconut curry, charred pineapple, and fresnos for a kick - Seafood diavolo: very flavorful (my dad found it too salty), served over polenta Lunch items: - Fresh catch: Argentenian shrimp and polenta - like shrimp and grits, very flavorful - Grilled cheese and soup: always a good combo - Burger: we added the onion rings, which had a good kick to them They also had a really solid kids' menu, which I appreciate. Despite how busy they are, service is attentive, and the manager came by personally to check in, which was a nice touch. Food and drink pacing was also good despite it being packed. It was clean and inviting. They offered an array of choices, so there would be something for everyone if you decide to dine here. The food was good, preparation and display were done carefully, but the taste was overall just ok. The appetizers we chose were Warm Pimento Cheese, which was mildly flavorful, but good, and Prime Beef Carne Apache, which had no flavor at all. The main courses we chose included a pork dish and a chicken dish. The chicken had great flavor, but was placed on a bed of potato wedges which were not all completely cooked through. We felt this took away from the overall dish. The accompanied sauce made with yogurt and poppyseed did not add any flavor to the dish. The pork dish had great flavor. The drinks accompanying the food were made well and tasty. The kids menu has an array of choices as well, and our choice of macaroni and cheese was a hit! We ended with a frozen snicker bar dessert that tasted exactly like a frozen snickers bar. Overall, we had a very nice evening and would definitely visit again.

As anticipated, the place was gorgeous...with a slightly formal air. Given that it was in the Vail Village (near the ski slope), my husband was able to enter the place in his rugged ski suit. Despite the ambiance, it was a bit dead. I was disappointed with the lack of French music overhead...though maybe it was on so low, I didn't hear it? There were plenty of breakfast-brunch options, but on the menu, some items were noted as taking 20 minutes (which we didn't have time for!), so I was a tad bummed about that. In any case, my husband chose this Huckleberry Bacon French Toast, and I ordered the Maryland Crab Benedict. For drinks, we both just ordered plain coffee. As expected, the foods were good. I was more impressed with my husband's choice, this super-fancy french toast. Not only did it look amazing, it tasted spectacular! Mine was good, but disappointing at the same time. I really liked the Crab Benedict, but I only half-liked the side salad (basically just Arugula with a few Walnuts and Figs). The total bill for these items ran over 100 bucks... which, was to be expected in Vail. However, for such a pricey breakfast, I felt that I should have absolutely loved it...but it felt short of that. Overall, I just expected a bit more from this breakfast experience. Again, the decor was gorgeous, but the ambiance wasn't fully there (because of the lack of music?). Service felt a bit short-skimpy as well. Foods were good, but mine especially (Crab Benedict) felt a bit lacking. Let's just say that I've had Crab Benedicts as just as good for half the price...and with better sides. Maybe lunch or dinner experience is better here? In any case, am glad we checked out the place...but I doubt I'll choose it for breakfast again.

The Aubergine Roulade, roasted eggplant rolled with roasted red peppers, spinach, chèvre and herbs served over baby arugula, mimolette cheese, toasted pine nuts, pickled fresno pepper & aged balsamic reduction (!) was good. With all those ingredients it should have been spectacular. Nice evening but disappointing.
