Fish Tacos!
Kevin S.

Good tacos, but the Papusas are where this place shines, try all the flavors! We have been getting papusas here since 2018. Solid place. Staff is alwats nice and they have a huge dining room if you bring a crowd!

Delicious carne asada tacos, chicken burritos and tamales oh my! We love this restaurant, it's close to our house and it always hits the spot when we are craving delicious mexican food. Service is friendly and the location is clean. The salsa bar has some delicious hot, mild and avocado salsa. I wish they kept longer hours, but I value the employees being able to rest and spend time with their families more than me being able to eat tacos at 8pm.

Stacked pollo quesadilla

We've been here a bunch of times and always have a great experience. We normally order their pupusas and pollo stacked quesadilla. The quesadilla is great. Loaded with cheese, protein and topped with sauce, guacamole and sour cream. Unfortunately, they no longer offer pupusas. I was super bummed, as that is my go to order. Generally everything we eat here is great, so I took it as an opportunity to try something new. I ended up ordering their asada habenero burrito and it was just ok. Definitely fell short on the yummy factor. The asada was really fatty and also had chunks of chicken in it. The burrito was more rice, beans and veggies than protein. I probably won't order that burrito again. On a brighter note, their refried beans are the most delicious side of beans I've ever eaten. I could just eat their beans with chips for an entire meal it's that good! Also, their staff is always super friendly, the restaurant has open seating and it's super clean with a salsa bar. I will continue going just for their beans and hopefully find a main dish I can call my go to moving forward .

Grilled fish tacos and Carnitas tacos

We went early on a weekday and beat the lunch rush. Our food came out in what seemed less than five minutes. Ordering is super easy, there are not too many items to choose from so it was not difficult to decide quickly. There is a self-serve salsa bar with delicious fresh made salsas. I went with grilled fish tacos and Al Pastor tacos. The grilled fish was fresh and served on a tortilla with cabbage and mango salsa. The El Pastore was well seasoned and topped with a delicious sauce. Overall it is a nice quiet Taqueria that I will definitely be visiting again!

WoW! What a pleasant surprise when I needed a fast lite bite. My first time here. I'm putting it in my favorites so I can find it again (:-) because they have a delicious MILD avocado salsa on their salsa bar that will get me to return. I ordered one chicken tamale and found it delicious. The masa and chicken were both flavorful. When I added the mild avocado salsa it created a taste sensation that will call to me. I was a little timid when I saw the name Habanero's, thinking they would spice everything up. I don't like spicy. But the owner assured me my tamale and salsa were mild and they were. Excellent. The tamales ARE homemade! The interior is very nicely decorated and pleasant Hispanic music is adding to a nice authentic experience. I've lived on the Baja. I'm at home here. I explained to the owner how to claim this business because with all his great reviews, he will be able to respond, and we will know he's reading our reviews! I hope he will, but even if he doesn't, this place deserves all its great reviews and I encourage newcomers to stop in and ENJOY!

The Steak was tender and very well seasoned.. They have a salsa station to get all the red , green , and spicy . Picture of the tacos my buddy got . Enjoyed. The service was great and ambience too Traditional. We were the only ones there 3 of us . It is a good size place . Enjoy !!!

I have a gift card to Bistro Habanero that I've been trying to use for quite some time. However, I had a hard time figuring out when to come because they are only open Monday to Friday from 10am-6pm; closed on weekends and for dinner. The location is east of the airport which is an area of Reno that I don't go to often. I decided to finally make the drive over on my lunch break today and am so glad I did! The outside is pretty plain and appears to be a hole-in-the-wall place, but those are always the best! It is right next to a gas station on the street corner. I ordered carnitas tacos based on previous Yelp Elite reviews that were raving about them. I got the two taco plate which came with sides of rice and beans for $11.99 total which was very reasonable. Everything was delicious! The pork had such good flavor and I really enjoyed the house chipotle dressing. They had plenty of meat in each taco and good serving sizes of rice and beans. They also have a serve-your-own salsa bar, so I grabbed some of the hot salsa and really liked it. I was impressed by all the food I tried and look forward to coming back to order different things from their menu in the future!

Tacos de asada a la carte
Teuila G.

We dined in for lunch today; food was freshly served. We ordered: Tacos de asada and not pictured tacos de carnitas, (They didn't make it long enough to take a photo), burrito suiza, and a pupusa de chiccarron The young gentleman working the counter was friendly and helpful. We were bummed they were out of their homemade aguas besides their horchata. I was looking forward to an agua de Tamarindo or Jamaica. There's always next time. We did order the sauce on the side for the burrito, and obviously, that didn't happen. We were on our lunch breaks, so we couldn't wait for a remake. We enjoyed the A/C and the artwork in their back dining room. I look forward to my next visit next time I'm in the area.

Habenero burrito

Delicious, fast service, and kind staff! Got a habaneros burrito with just veggies no meat and it was bomb! HUGE burrito, no way I could finish it in one sitting. Tortilla was soft, yet didn't break even though it was massively filled. The vegetable selection was nice, including grilled zucchini and bell pepper. A lot of veggie burritos are usually just lettuce and tomato so it was nice to have warm grilled veggies. Ingredients tasted great! Salsa bar to the side to be able to pick your own salsas. I picked the verde and the avocado - both great and tangy without too much heat. Food was prepared quickly and we didn't wait long at all, despite there being a few customers. Staff was super nice! Answered all my questions and with a great attitude. I'll definitely be back!

Chili verde burrito

One of the reasons I love Yelp so much is that you learn about great businesses you would never have heard of otherwise. This restaurant is not in my neighborhood or on a street that I would drive on so I'm very glad that Michael T recently highlighted it and brought it to my attention. The restaurant is taqueria style with counter service. It's very clean and bright inside, with plenty of seating and friendly service. It's very busy-I arrived at 11 thinking I would beat the rush but it was still crowded. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a Chile verde burrito and also an ala carte carnitas taco (since Michael T suggested in his review!). I am not usually a fan of carnitas as there is something about the flavor I don't like but this carnitas was amazing-almost citrusy tasting-and the meat was perfectly tender. I also loved the other items but I'm going back for the carnitas and soon!

I also had a Fresco de Tamarindo and it was freshly made just like all of their drinks. Glad I gave this place a try and can't wait to try their Salvadoran tamales on a weekend!

When it comes to Salvadoran food, "El Pulgarcito" is definitely the real deal. Not only do they…read moreserve Salvadoran food but they also have a full-on Mexican food menu as well. Located at the McCarran Plaza directly on E. Prater Rd and adjacent to N. McCarran Blvd in the heart of Sparks, this has been one of the top rated spots for papusas in the northern Nevada area dating back to 2012. And if my family (that live north of here in Spanish Springs) didn't tell me about this hidden gem, I would have no idea it even existed. I came here with my lady during the afternoon on Saturday 6/20/2026 at around 3:00pm. Since this is an outdoor strip mall with lots of other businesses and eateries, parking was fairly easy to find; especially since we came in between lunch and dinner. The exterior showcases the business name while the interior actually has two separate dining areas. In fact, it is so spacious inside, there is ample room to accommodate a lot more tables and chairs. I do think the layout is also designed to where people can dance if they have hold private gatherings. Even though the decor looks a bit dated, this only adds to some of the charm and authenticity of this small business. As I mentioned, their menu consists of both Salvadoran food; papusas, sopas, pollo fritos, etc. as well as Mexican food; tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc. All types of traditional Central American meats are prepared here as well as a variety of seafood options, a-la-carte items, soups, sodas, and juices. I ended up ordering one frijoles (bean) papusa and one fish taco while my lady ordered two frijoles (bean) papusas. Total price for everything after tax + tip only came out to around $20; not bad at all even with skyrocketing food prices. We were given complimentary chips & salsa, a number, and proceeded to sit at one of the booth tables. Both our orders arrived in less than 10 minutes by the same lady that took our order. We received the traditional cabbage slaw with our papusas (a.k.a. curtido) with the savory tomato salsa roja. One bite of my bean papusa and the flavor absolutely hits perfectly. The ratio of beans combined with the crispiness of the tortilla shell hit all the high notes for me. As for the fish taco, this was absolutely delicious as every single bite had an abundance of crispy fried (tilapia) fish. It also included amazing crema sauce, avocados, and other fillings to elevate the overall flavor. All in all, "El Pulgarcito" is the real deal and if you're looking for a place that serves up amazing Salvadoran food in the greater Reno-Sparks metropolitan area, this hits all the high notes. Prices are very competitive, service was top notch, and the food was a grand slam for me. Keep in mind that they are closed on Mondays but are open for business Tuesday through Sunday from 9am-7pm. My rating for this small family-owned business, a perfect five stars.

There are colored paper signs all over the windows indicating specials in what can only be described as perhaps elementary school posters. The interior is pretty sparse with a small TV playing Latin shows. They have beer here including two El Salvadoran beers. In case you were wondering, this restaurant is the sister to El Salvador Restaurant in Reno, and yes, "Restaurant" is part of their business name. I'm not too fond of the one in Reno, however, I haven't been there in several years. I ordered the steak and eggs breakfast, en empanada, a pastelito de carne, a pupusa, and fried plantain and it all came with a salad and what is like Latin cole slaw. I'm a bit of a pupusas and empanadas fiend. The way I like empanadas are Dominican style or at least Washington Heights style which is deep-fried, flakey, and crispy. The empanadas here are a bit small and soft and they had some gooey jelly inside. I like pastelitos too, but here it was a bit more like jalapeno popper crust instead of a more pie crust. The pupusa is pretty decent. The steak was a thin slice which is how a lot of Latin restaurants make them, sometimes called bistec or carne asada. The best empanadas in Reno are at Cantina at GSR. They also have pupusas there. I used to list all the places in Reno/Sparks you could get pupusas, but I think for whatever reason, there are enough El Salvadoran restaurants around that you can get them at lots of places. Oh what the hey, here's the list: Bistro Habanero, Cantina, Mi Querido Pulgarcito (SPX), Asi Es Mi Tierra, Speedy Burrito, Restaurante Yesenia, El Rincon, and Los Cuatro Vientos.
