The BEST Papusas in Reno/Sparks/Tahoe. Staff is always prompt and nice. Take your wife, take your extended family, take your friends!

Carne Asada with Shrimp plate, Pupusa revuelta, and sopa de pata.

Staff is welcoming and friendly. You order and pay before you get your food. We ordered a Carne Asada with Shrimp plate, Pupusa revuelta, and a Sopa de pata. I wanted to try the Sopa de Res but was told they ran out. I went with the sopa de pata. I have to say It was one of the best I've had. Broth was delicious and the portions of veggies and meat were perfect. I wish I could be close to eat here again. They also have a kids menu. Definitely recommend.

This is the second time that I have come here for a take-out order for 'Chili Relleno with rice and beans' and have been very disappointed. I ordered two orders before, which was for my friend and the other one for myself. This restaurant only sells one combination plate with one Chili Relleno and one Enchilada for $17.00. When I got back to my friend's house, she was so upset to see such a small portion of beans and rice, which was about two heaping tablespoons of beans & two heaping tablespoons of rice. I had forgotten about how small the Chili Relleno was & the rice & beans were. I will be walking back in to El Ricon Restaurant now, after discovering the same small quantity of food. Today, I paid $17.05 for one order of a half of a pepper and a couple of mouthfuls of rice and beans plus a Carne Asada Taco I will not patronize this restaurant by purchasing their ridiculous small portions of food for such high prices. I hope that this is helpful for others who are searching for Mexican Restaurants. I also want to mention that there wasn't any cheese inside of the pepper It was just dredged in flour and dipped into beaten eggs then fried with a little tomato sauce on the top. I did request that they refund me my money. I noticed that their customers who were eating inside of the restaurant had much more beans, rice and other items. Hmm

Food: The menudo served on weekends was pretty good! It could have used just a tad bit more salt for my preference and once I added a bit more the menudo was delectable! I washed it down with a large iced TAMARIND JUICE which I highly recommend! Service: Friendly Staff! Ambiance: Casual dining but we ordered for pick up during our visit. Overall, I had a great experience besides the menudo needing just a tad bit of salt for my preference. I recommend giving them a try!

My first time here today. I might never have discovered it if Taconazo (across Greenbrae) had not been closed. This is a small place on the corner across from "Greenbrae Commons Results NV Transformation Center". I literally live near this shopping center and without Yelp I would never have known it was here. What a GREAT DISCOVERY! They MAKE their own corn tortillas and they are spectacular. If you've never had homemade corn tortillas you're in for a treat here. I once had a housekeeper who had owned her own restaurant and she often cooked for us. My meal here today was reminiscent of the wonderful flavors she put together for us. I can hardly wait to come back and try a few more of my favorites. The portions are not large but the flavors are spectacular! We will definitely be back! If you find this review useful please vote!

I was referred to this restaurant from someone on Next Door so I thought I would try it out! I first want to say I love whole in the wall places and I love supporting small and Mom/Pop businesses! When you walk in, the people were very nice! My friend was craving chips and salsa, but here you have to buy them. So we preferred that, I had a Carnitas Burrito and he ordered a Carne Asada Quesadilla. When they brought the chips and salsa over we were given a basket of Tostitos Chips, we were not impressed (see picture). Our food was brought our food over, I had to ask again for Salsa Verde (which I asked for when placing our order), which came very runny. My friend said the Quesadilla was ok and my Burrito was ok, what saved our meal was the meat! The Carne Asada and Carnitas were very good (that is reason they got 3 stars, the meat is what saved them). Lastly, their bathrooms are terrible, I would only use it to wash my hands!

You've driven past it a million times and had no idea it was there. One of my favorite go to spots for Salvadoran and Mexican food! Everything here is fresh and cooked when you order. The mild salsa is very flavorful and the spicy is just right. The pupusas are the absolute best! Cheese, beans, meat, or mixed. Definitely a must try. On weekends they serve menudo! Check them out.

The Cabbage and salsa is served plastic zip lock bags when food is served for Pupusas . Instead of cup or bowls. Dollar store plates.

When entering this establishment, i thought i was getting a menu to look threw, while being seated ?!. NOT. more of a fast food type style Taquria- Salvadoran restaurant. Order while you look at wall menu at pay tip up front. Not bueno Coming From thr Bay. Small Dollar store plates, and plastic forks. Food was decent.the cashier was a cool cat. Small portions due the plate size with the rice and beans.

There are colored paper signs all over the windows indicating specials in what can only be described as perhaps elementary school posters. The interior is pretty sparse with a small TV playing Latin shows. They have beer here including two El Salvadoran beers. In case you were wondering, this restaurant is the sister to El Salvador Restaurant in Reno, and yes, "Restaurant" is part of their business name. I'm not too fond of the one in Reno, however, I haven't been there in several years. I ordered the steak and eggs breakfast, en empanada, a pastelito de carne, a pupusa, and fried plantain and it all came with a salad and what is like Latin cole slaw. I'm a bit of a pupusas and empanadas fiend. The way I like empanadas are Dominican style or at least Washington Heights style which is deep-fried, flakey, and crispy. The empanadas here are a bit small and soft and they had some gooey jelly inside. I like pastelitos too, but here it was a bit more like jalapeno popper crust instead of a more pie crust. The pupusa is pretty decent. The steak was a thin slice which is how a lot of Latin restaurants make them, sometimes called bistec or carne asada. The best empanadas in Reno are at Cantina at GSR. They also have pupusas there. I used to list all the places in Reno/Sparks you could get pupusas, but I think for whatever reason, there are enough El Salvadoran restaurants around that you can get them at lots of places. Oh what the hey, here's the list: Bistro Habanero, Cantina, Mi Querido Pulgarcito (SPX), Asi Es Mi Tierra, Speedy Burrito, Restaurante Yesenia, El Rincon, and Los Cuatro Vientos.

And it is an absolute must to put both green salsas on whichever you choose. It's just so good! The first thing I ever tried was the regular chicken quesadilla and I was instantly hooked. The chicken is perfect so flavorful, and has the right amount of cheese. Same thing with the stacked quesadilla which has a fried flour tortilla inside, genius! The only thing I haven't liked very much so far is the suizo burrito. The cheese sauce got cold very quick and the Carne Asada was a little too fatty for me. It's more of a personal preference and not anything at all wrong with the food. The flavor was still very good with everything else. I'm so excited to come back and try out the rest of the menu items, especially the items from the online menu (not listed in restaurant) such as the Carne Asada fries and nachos. Many thanks Bistro Hanbanero crew! Can't wait for the next visit.
