We've bought…read morechocolates for ourselves, holidays, and gifts, and visiting Krause's has always been a tradition whenever I returned to New York after living in Florida. In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

While I was in Mechanicville very recently, I decided to check out Park Avenue Confectionary to pick up a box of gourmet truffles for MOI- I heart truffles! I deserve a nice treat every now and then. This little chocolate and confectionary shop stocks homemade chocolates and candies including chocolate bars (white, milk chocolate, dark, etc), lollipops, special themes (molded chocolates), bagged chocolate covered candies, chocolate covered pretzels, dgift boxes, and baskets. They also carry sugar free varieties too. The prices here are very fair: $9.95/lb for chocolates and $14.95/lb for truffles. I've been to other chocolate shops near my home,, some of which charge almost double. The owner was very accomodating in helping me to customize and choose an assortment of truffles (24 pieces/12 oz box). There were around 20 choices of truffles to choose from, and I was pointing out what I wanted from outside the glass case. This was like choosing what kinds of donuts I wanted for an assortment (give me one glazed, two jelly, three cruellers, etc), you get the idea. The total came out to just under $14 with tax. I brought the box of truffles into work for ME to indulge on while I was crunching numbers and calculations at my desk (my coworkers are on their New Year's diet, hehe). Each of the truffles tasted very fresh and had a nice hard shell outside with creamy and rich ganache inside. The hazelnut was my favorite. The truffles went well with my daily cup of Starbucks Coffee. It took me the whole week to finish the box, munching on a few pieces each day. What a sweet week! Small business is very important to the economy and I appreciate all of the hard work these amazing people put in to build their business and keeping it active everyday, especially in these trying pandemic times. The word has gotten out about the toys because many families show up. I grew up on Sanrio toys and Hello Kitty has always been one of my favs. You'll find plenty of Hello Kitty and friends merch but I've noticed that they've already run out of some items and not restocked. There's no staff on the floor to offer assistance. Since many of the products are not labeled in English, only Japanese, they really need more customer support. Also, please fix the token changer, which has been broken for several days. The entire front portion of the store is dedicated to machinery that only accepts tokens including the arcade-style claw machines and small toys /key chains dispensers. I saw people wandering through the aisles looking really confused since dozens upon dozens of machines in this section are unplayable if customers can't change their dollars into tokens. There's no one around to even explain that to them. I did, however, enjoy buying snacks. The spicy potato sticks may be my favorite. I look forward to trying the new foods they plan to bring in. I wish they could offer full meals. I mistakenly thought the store would look more like a Japanese version of H Mart which is Korean and truly has everything. Still, Ebisu's arrival to the Capital Region gives shoppers more variety and options, which is great.

While I do understand that the ownership has changed and inevitably will give the store a different…read morevibe, my main issue has been that in the times I have been into this store since the change in ownership and management, the staff has been unpleasant and on one occasion in particular, made my friend and I feel very uncomfortable as she had a loud and extremely personal phone call during the entire time we were in the store without even acknowledging that we were there at all. I do think the selection has always been great, and I appreciate the emphasis on supporting local work, although that also seems to have changed a bit since the change. It is a pricey location for most things, but I do always enjoy seeing what is in the store, the card selection is consistently excellent, and it is a great place to find a gift!

Your call on whether this makes the flavor more interesting. But I thought the chocolate peanut butter cup was just about perfect. That chocolate was really rich and dark, so dark you couldn't necessarily see the peanut butter cup chunks. But you could certainly taste them! All of the flavors are really interesting and pretty traditional. I definitely want to come back and try more of them.

The gyros were fresh and made to order. They included a good portion of gyro meat and generous amounts of tomatoes, lettuce and tzatzki. The bathroom is huge and very clean. However, it would be nice if they installed a hook to hang your purse and coat. We also sampled the ice cream. They have both soft serve and hard ice cream. My soft serve twist was yummy and my mom enjoyed her hard ice cream. This is a nice addition to the area. We'll be back for the delicious gyros and ice cream.
