I have been a recipient of the candy from this store for the past 25th years! My parents have always given me chocolate from here for every holiday since I was a baby. The quality has not changed and everything continues to the taste the same. My favorite chocolates are the dark chocolate covered pretzels. As I said in my review a year ago, I've been coming here to buy peanut butter ribbon candy for many years. And for probably the last 20 years to buy Turkey Joints. The prior 20 years the Turkey Joints were given to me every Christmas holiday as a gift from my mother-in-law. You see, Turkey Joints are made in Rome, NY where my wife grew up, so she had been introduced to them long before meeting me. Ironically, one Xmas when my mother-in-law also gave us a box of ribbon candy, which Santa must have told her I really enjoy, I happened to notice that the box was the same design as the one's I had recently purchased at Candy Kraft. When I opened the box from my mother-in-law, the inside of the cover was stamped with Candy Kraft's name. The next time I was in Candy Kraft I mentioned it to the clerk and they explained to me how the owners of both businesses met at candy school and agreed to exchange each other's product for sale. So now I had a local supplier of Turkey Joints once I no longer had a reason to make regular trips to Rome. I'm not going to tell you what they are, if you don't already know, with the hope that you'll visit the friendly folks at Candy Kraft. They have a lot of delicious candy and they make most of it on the premises, even the ribbon candy. This year they even were kind enough to give me a reusable cloth sack in which to carry my purchases. I then turned with a jerk and laid my finger aside of my nose, and giving a nod, out the door I strode. There is never a time when I go back to Schenectady that I don't stop in here. Bob, Donna, Brad and everyone else at this shop are so friendly and it is always a great reminder of home. Their cherry cordials and the peanut butter ribbon candy are my favorites. All made by hand and you can tell it too. Their chocolate is rich and flavorful and delicious, not waxy at all, which sometimes you can find in store-bought chocolate. Their homemade hard candies are spot on and I love to pick up some of these too. My wife is a fan of their wafer mints (especially the wintergreen and peppermint) and I always pick her up some when I'm in. The minute you walk through the door, the smell of chocolate is just like a "welcome home!" I am big fan of their cherry cordials, both the milk and the dark. You can tell they are homemade and the cordial inside is a rich balance of sweet but not too much. If you've never had peanut butter ribbon candy, you should! It actually melts in your mouth. It is the perfect blend of sweetness and peanut butter. It is one of those candies that takes you back to when you were a little kid and you could hardly wait to pick out a candy for yourself! There is a reason that this independent fine candy shop has been around for the last 82 years...there is no place finer to satisfy your candy cravings than Candy Kraft! Stopped in on Roger's recommendation for some Turkey Joints. Before I get into the review of the store, let me comment on the parking. Best handicapped parking EVER! Seriously. You park right smack in front of the front door. If you do it right, you can step right onto the front steps as you exit your car. Makes me feel like I own the place. My wife questioned if it was really a spot or if I was just being an ass until we exited and she saw the paint. Candy Kraft is smaller than other local candy stores. There's a bell that rings continuously when the door is open, so if someone takes a little bit to get up or down the stairs (like me) that bell can get awfully annoying. The shelves behind the counter are lined with candy in the old fashioned jars. The place has a real charm. There were a lot of people there milling about and only two people working behind the counter. Now that I think of it, it might be difficult for the staff to be anywhere else without getting in the way. This means you'll likely have to find what you want on your own. Wife went to wait in line and ask about the Turkey Joints when I happened to spot them on the shelf. They were a bit more expensive than I expected, $19.99 for the jar. I almost put it back on the shelf. But, it was for a party, and it's not something I do every day, so we got it anyway. Next time we have to try some of the candy made at Candy Kraft, it's probably not fair to judge the store on someone else's candy. But the Turkey Joints were a hit. Kinda like a cotten candy taste on the hard shell outside with a nutella taste on the inside. Unique texture and eating experience, everyone enjoyed it. read more

Cute little candy shop that rival's See's on the west coast. A bit more cluttered, but cozy, good selection of chocolates by the pound, chocolate novelties, hard candies, and other assorted sweets. They even have stuffed animals and a few rings (!??!?) if you've really fouled things up and roses won't do. If you call ahead they'll set aside an order for you, but if you're going during the busy season, be prepared to wait. read more

I have been going to the candy craft store since I was a child My parents stopped there every time we went to Albany which was almost every weekend! We got all of our Holiday candy there and my Mom was in love with their nuts, huge cashews and I was in love and still am with their truffles, luscious rectangles layered with absolutely delightful creamy chocolate! I just dream of them! The store is tiny so you feel warm, safe and at home there, like you are in Grandma's kitchen. When I was a child I use to call the woman who owned the shop Grammie because she looked like my Grandma. If you don't stop there you are really missing out. We used to live across the street from this little gem. We used to go once a month to get a box of a variety of chocolate candy (or sometimes more). We have even given these candy treats as presents before. We moved 4 years ago to Phoenix, AZ and can't find a candy store that compares. Yes, there is See's candy at the local mall..but eh...it's really sweet and tastes like sugar most of the time. My husband was talking about the Candy Kraft candy before Christmas time saying he loved the chocolate covered Brazil nuts and he hasn't been able to find them since. I went to Candy Kraft's website and wrote an email to the owner and he promptly wrote me back answering my questions about shipping. I ordered three different one pound boxes of candy for my husband's Christmas gift using Paypal. They arrived in a box on my doorstep. They were neatly gift wrapped with cute bows. However, one box must have gotten hurt in transport somewhere. I emailed the owner and he apologized (even though it wasn't his fault) and promptly shipped a new box I had to throw away due to damage to replace the old one free of charge!
