Vasco loves Bittersweet!

This is a fantastic kennel for boarding, grooming, and daycare. Laurie, Carys, and the team are fabulous! I have been happily bringing my pets to Bittersweet, since the mid 90's. Staff at Bittersweet are caring, kind, personable and truly understand pets. My dog is always very excited to go to Bittersweet whether for the day or overnight! I highly recommend this facility.

My pup loved it there! They were accommodating of a super awkward dog that isn't always a fan of people. Wonderful place!

I took my two dogs to The Barking Dog to be boarded for their first time for three days. After I called they did post one that included my pups but I had been told that there would be one a day and the video had only a single clip of them. My dogs come from a shelter and I needed to know that they were getting out to play with other dogs and people and not just being cooped up in their 'condo'. When I picked them up they gave me a report on how they did in the pool and during playtime with a picture on each and they had been given a free bath so they smelled great. I understand that videos are a pain to post but that was my big hang up. I was upset when I arrived because I didn't even know for sure whether or not they had been given bedding. I was never shown where they were actually going to stay after it was set up and the other dogs I saw during the tour either had their own bedding or did not have much. I would take my dogs here again only on the contingency that videos would actually be posted and I had verification that they were given bedding. Otherwise, I would have absolutely brought bedding rather than just two measly blankets if I knew that might be the case. My dogs are so precious to me and I just needed a little bit more reassurance without feeling like there was some dishonesty happening. A place like The Barking Dog is difficult to maintain and dog hair is a pain to clean. I am very grateful for all the work the staff does and the time they take to ensure they get exercise and socialization. Thank you for taking care of Emmie and Myson. I hope that if there is a next time things can be a little more cut and dry.

We used Barking Dog several years ago for daycare and boarding of our two dogs. Nearly every time…read moreat pick up, they had to pee so badly it lasted for what seemed like 5minutes, and were so thirsty they drank 2 bowls of water. There was also urine or feces on their bedding after boarding- with no explanation or apology offered. We stopped going there. After nearly 10 years, and with a new puppy, we thought we would give BD another try. Practically from day 1, things were poor. The "Live" video never worked. When it did, it showed the dogs running around with one staff standing against a wall and on their cell phone. We scheduled our puppy for a bath- it never happened. A couple of weeks ago, we boarded our puppy for 1 overnight. I arrived at 8am (when they open), staff was not ready. I waited, along with 10 other parents, for my puppy to be brought down, and was told he hadn't been fed breakfast. I noticed he was wet, but it wasn't until I got him to the car that I realized it was urine, and all of his bedding was saturated with urine. When I got him home, I noticed that all of the food I pre-packaged for him, was still in the bag. He hadn't been fed at all while in their care! I had really hoped BD had changed, but it's obvious that they haven't. It's clear they don't hire competent staff or train them properly. I would not recommend anyone bringing their dog there! Yelp is making me rate BD with a Star- I wouldn't give one if I didn't have to!

I recently moved to Maine and contacted Kara's Petcare on the recommendation of my vet. I was so…read moreexcited because it seemed like they would be able to offer daycare for my dogs and some auxiliary training if needed. They also said they did transport to the daycare facility and boarding on occasion. It seemed perfect. I should mention that there are Kara's pet care facilities in Portsmouth, Berwick, and Falmouth. First I was asked to set up a meet and greet with one of their associates at my home so she could meet my pets. It took me many tries to get through many unreturned phone calls, but finally we did set up the meet and greet and that went well. Then I was asked to set up an app and an account before we could actually schedule any dog care. So I set up the app and the account. Then I was asked to drive my dogs to their facility to see if the dogs would "be happy there." So I drove my dogs 25 minutes to the facility. When I got to the facility I was told that they were supposed to stay there for a day assessment and then I should come and pick them up. This was not communicated to me earlier, and I had not budgeted an extra hour of driving back-and-forth. Then they would reschedule the assessment and they would come and pick up my dogs for the day-long assessment. All before any dog care could be scheduled. So, still not on the calendar. So to summarize: you need to go through a long process of scheduling a meet and greet, then you need to have the meet and greet, then you need to sign up for the app, then your dogs have to be assessed to see if they will be happy. I'm just thinking that anyone who's busy enough to need dog care is too busy for this multilayered, multi-step, poorly communicated process where phone calls, texts, and emails are returned only about half the time.

The Cat's Pajamas Inn - Tank

Need your cat boarded? Look no further!…read more My husband and I unexpectedly adopted a kitten in Spring 2020. We had a beach getaway planned for early summer (booked a year in advance) and had no idea what to do with our (then 13 week old) kitten. I searched online and immediately found all of the glowing reviews for Cat's Pajamas - I'm so glad! I spoke with Patty on the phone and she eased all of my worries about leaving our baby Leo with her. We boarded Leo for the week we were away and he was the happiest boy when we picked him back up! He is a very needy kitten (needs lots of attention and cries if he doesn't get it), so I was worried about leaving him - but no need to worry with Patty! Patty made sure to have him out for playtime regularly and sent us lots of pictures to keep us updated. Leo absolutely loved her! Plus, Patty even allowed us to bring our non-clumping litter for her to use during the week, since Leo was still too young for regular clumping (if you've ever used it, you know non-clumping litter can be a pain, but Patty didn't even bat an eye at the inconvenience of it!). We left Leo with her again at the end of the summer for a last minute weekend trip and received the same 5-star treatment! We love Patty and can't recommend The Cat's Pajamas Inn highly enough!

Patty, the owner seemed lovely. I wasn't thrilled about the size of the crates 6x4, but figured we could do a trial run for 1 night before his actual stay. We agreed on a day and time for me to bring my cat and the day before she asked if I could come at 9:00am instead of 9:30am because she was heading out for 2 hours at 9:15!! WHAT?? She thought nothing of having me bring my cat who had never been there before, shove him in a crate and the leave right after he gets there for 2 hours? The whole point of me bringing him was for her to meet him, see how he does. When I asked if it might be better to bring him later that day when she would be around, she said no I'm having company!! Again WHAT?? How much attention and time was she planning on spending with my cat who would probably have been frightened as can be. I would NEVER bring my cat there and I'm so happy that I learned what she's truly all about beforehand. Looks can be deceiving!!
