We had a bad experience here like some of the other reviewers. We left our two dogs for about 10 days. One of our dogs came home with a bleeding cut under his eye and another bleeding spot on his back, no word from them about it. Both dogs came home reeking of urine, we had to bathe them right away and get our car cleaned. The entire place smells like urine, we wished we had visited in person before making a reservation, I highly recommend others do so before boarding their pet here. read more

Fantastic Kennel/ Grooming facility- We have been taking our family dogs here for at least 20+ years mostly for grooming and some boarding. They always have great people on staff. A few of our dogs have been rescues with issues and their grooming staff was very patient with each dog and their individual personalities. Our current dog is timid and shy but loves them so much she runs up the stairs and goes right in the door, like she's home. A little shaky because she knows I am leaving her but when I pick her up, she is beautiful and so very happy... I would highly recommend Lori with Bittersweet Kennel and Caris our groomer for her love and care of the animals. read more

When I picked up Maxwell after being boarded for 14 days with this place I had already paid the ridiculous price for boarding A CAT usually Maxwell is face front to his carrier wanting to know what's going on at all times but he was hiding his face with his butt to the front but when I finally got him to the truck and had backed up to leave he turned around and I about vomited my heart stopped and the tears I kept back until I went in there and asked what the hell happened the two young girls looked at each other shrugged and told me he wasn't like that this morning. I'm not a vet or anything but before I even rushed him to the emergency vet I could tell from the huge scab that it was old at least a week old and he's the kind of cat who greets you at the door and loves everybody loves attention (he was petrified and the look in his eyes his soul was dulled took him forever to come out of his carrier and for not seeing me for 2 months (he was at another kennel but they retired and he was happy at that place) was unlike him not to come out to see me) for them not to notice is a LIE! Even the owner said he wasn't like that that same morning LIES! The vet said the scab was definitely days old. He literally looks like someone kicked him in the face or hit his face with the door as his face is still since Saturday is still swollen he can't close his mouth all the way and his tongue constantly sticking out drooling he has lock jaw when he tries to swallow and my vet had to give him an appetite pill to get him to eat because he didn't eat the first two days we had him back. I can tell it hurts him to eat and drink as he can't extend his tongue much. His nose the very hard to very carefully remove as when he finally turned around for me to see his face he immediately was like omg MOM!!! And started purring soo loud made the scab pop off but still attached immediately blood soo much blood even was coming out his nostrils his nose has a huge gauge like someone took a potato peeler to his nose and sliced a chunk out of it. The girls originally said well maybe it was canned food as he just ate some I'm like are you for real showed them a picture it's BLOOD the scan did look like dried canned food but wasn't that just shows how old the scab was and another LIE because if he wasn't eating for 2 days with me then he wasn't eating there and who knows how long he was in pain. Don't EVER bring your pets here if there were negative stars underneath zero stars. After my cats visit and reading all of the reviews online. This establishment should've been shut down years ago! History of abuse including the death of a very healthy diabetic cat along with dogs having bloody cuts around their eyes etc there were at least 15 terrible reviews of other poor pets. The officer I filled a report with even said they were looking into another report filed for the same place. When my vet called yesterday to go over Maxwell's results she was even saying someone brought in 2 cats (one being diabetic the other not) because this place was administering the diabetic insulin TO THE WRONG CAT luckily they both recouped and were okay but how the hell do these establishments get to even be open without a license?! These places should be inspected YEARLY to ensure the proper care and to ensure the enclosures are safe and up to date and sanitary! Reading some of the reviews about the stench of the place definitely made my stomach turn as well as I had allergies when I dropped him off so I couldn't smell but when I picked him up I did smell the strong smell of urine and having Maxwell since Saturday he still smells really bad like dirty litter box that hasn't been cleaned in over a week on top of his god awful breath that smells like rot because of what happened to his face. I'm so sickened not knowing what happened to him and how long he endured the abuse and how long he was in pain. Karma is a b**** when you do something even worse karma is a C***. read more

I sent my beautiful, healthy cat to this kennel. He did have diabetes, but was doing fantastic with many years to live. The staff said they could administer insulin, and I trusted this. Well, they killed my beautiful boy and broke my heart to pieces. DO NOT TRUST this kennel to take care of your precious pets. My cat went in fine but never came home. The vet thinks he wasn't fed properly and didn't get enough food to receive his medicine. Even if he was scared and not eating, they should have realized that food is needed with this medication or not to administer. They claimed they knew how to help him. Then he spent the whole night having seizures. Don't trust this place if your pet needs any TLC, they don't seem to care at all and never even said they were sorry to us. (They even kept his bag of uneaten food.) read more

It took me a few tries to find a good and trustworthy place to take care of my pets when I was away. I have been dropping off my dogs small and large on and off for over the past 20 years at Bittersweet Kennels (BSK). I bring my bowls, own food (just so they have no change of food stomach issues), thier toys with the smell of home, describe any quirks they may have or needs as one is on life long medication. They take down the information in thier PC shared by staff and I add grooming to the mix for an extra fee. I totally trust them. My pets return to me just as happy (if not more so) as when I left them with BSK. I hand over their leashes and know they are safe and will be taken care of as expected. What a peace of mind. I highly recommend BSK! read more

I'm not sure how this place handles dogs and cats, but DO NOT trust them with your small animals like ferrets, gerbils, chinchillas etc. We had to board our two ferrets for a couple of weeks while we were away. I knew something was off when they made us put them in their "cat room." Cats, as you may know, like to pick on, harass, and scare small animals such as ferrets. Our ferrets have a normal sized ferret cage as well as a smaller travel cage just for short trips as it can get somewhat cramped in there with the two girls (keep this in mind). If ferrets feel threatened, they will try to hide by any means necessary. Well when you put two ferrets in a room with 13 cats, you can expect them to be fearful. So one night, apparently they escaped their cage to hide themselves somewhere in the room from all of the cats. When the workers found them the next day, they decided to put our ferrets in their small travel carrier for the remaining week and a half of their stay. Not once did they call us to advise us or ask questions. Instead they forced two small but active animals to sit in a small carrier for almost two weeks. To feed them, they just dropped food through the top of the carrier and never bothered to clean them nor the cage. One of our ferrets is now severely underweight. However, this isn't the worst part. We discovered after bringing them home that they were covered in fleas, presumably from being with 10+ cats in a small room for weeks. We got the fleas off, but both of them have bites all over their stomach. At the end of the day, you shouldn't say you can take care of animals that you don't have space nor the experience to take care of. If I had known they were going to be stuck with cats, I would've found a different kennel. Again, do not bring your small pets here. read more

Both my dog and cat go here when I go on vacation, and they seem genuinely excited once they arrive, which is strange for a kennel but speaks volumes of it. It's also friendly to people too, I've never had an issue with the staff, even when calling to check up on my pets. They also let people visit the dog and cat rooms before boarding, which is good for easing my mind. I've never come here without a smiling employee to greet me. I get the dog groomed and taken outside for an extra fee, but when the dog comes out smelling fresh and has shorter nails, it's well worth the extra few dollars. Absolutely recommend! read more

Sasha didn't do well, to no fault of Bittersweet. She is a pound-puppy and the situation scared her, making her become very withdrawn and angry. We called daily to check on her, and appreciate the patience and honesty from the staff. They could have left her there in a kennel, afraid and with no human contact, but it was obvious that Sasha was more important than revenue!! We picked her up 4 days early because she was scared and wouldn't let anyone near her. Again, thank you Bittersweet, for caring about the animals! read more

Fantastic. Dropped my cat off here for five days. This place has both cages and a free-roaming area for cats. They provide food and fresh water. They can do medications, although for an extra fee. Leaving my cat here with the staff Lori and another lady put my mind at ease. My kitty had gotten out of the hospital before he went, and wasn't eating a whole lot, but they took good care of him here and he was eating so much when he came home. I would not hesitate to bring kitty here again. I do wish this place had better Sunday hours (like open in the evening) but otherwise this place is great. read more

I tried this kennel again for the first time since the mid 90's. Hardly ever board anywhere but I needed to make an emergency trip. 2 Shelties for 4 days. Both them came home needing to pee like racehorses and so dehydrated they were gulping water the whole afternoon. One of them couldn't make it from the car to the back yard to poop, so did it in my L/R. In addition, the other one came home super aggressive (not like her at all) and wanted to suddenly dominate my other older Sheltie (I have 4) to indicate to me that the playtime I paid for was NOT with appropriate dogs although they promised that. They were both off of their normal behavior and glad to be out of there. Just disappointing. read more

Won't use their service anymore and here is why. First stay was in April, 2016. We had to use this place because we changed our vacation plan and the place we already scheduled could not accommodate the change. When we dropped of the dog, we asked for a haircut and a bath on the day before we pick up our dog. When we picked her up, she still looked the same and smelt the same, her hair felt sticky. I was upset but my husband decided to let it go. Hard to find a place for your dog to stay so we did not bother to get into an argument with them. We just picked her up today from her second stay. Actually we had to go there twice and even a police officer had to come. Due to our pervious experience, when we dropped our dog off for the second stay, we told the lady that what exactly what we need - how short her hair we want and which day we would like this to be done. This morning around 9 AM, we went to pick her up but we were surprised to see that her hair was still the same (they claimed that they did give her a bath). When we questioned why she did not get a hair cut, the lady (forgot her name) said she read the computer wrong, so we agreed that we will come to pick her up later during the day. At lunch time, we called to ask if our dog is ready to be picked up. Same lady called us back and all the sudden she got really upset on the phone. We were like... ok, let's go get our dog. Whole family went (2 years old girl, 7 years old boy and us) to get our dog because the kids miss her so much. We walked in the door, the lady already looked upset and this time she claimed that she only see "bath and a brush" from her computer. Key thing is - she does not listen to you and she talks back (I told her we gave very detailed instruction this time only because last time you guys did not do what we asked but we still paid for it), she instantly said "how come did you complain the first time". All the sudden, it turned into our fault. We asked how much is it and we got a number like 348. I asked her to give me a breakdown because this number does not make sense to me (dog had 7 days stay so 7*26, 2 plays a day so 10*7 so I was wondering what will be the rest?) she started to shiver and looked like she was going to cry, then very dramatically she looked like she was so afraid and she asked us to leave (I do think she should get a career in Hollywood not a dog boarding place. What a waste of her talent!) I was like "can you please talk to me and listen to me?" and all the sudden she start to call 911 like she felt be threatened (but by who? I am taller but much smaller than her. Mine kids are 2 and 7 years old. Husband is outside with the dog because the dog won't stop barking). The police officer came and listened to us (thank you for that!). We went inside together to settle the bill. This time she print out a breakdown for me - 8 days of stay, 16 plays and 50 dollars for a bath). So I asked her why 8 days because she told us this morning that she won't charge us an extra day for picking up the dog later today. She corrected the error with a huge attitude (looks like she is doing me a personal favor). So I asked again why 16 plays? she said "I did not check you in so I don't know". I said "well, if you look at your computer again you should see that we have 2 plays a day" Then she got upset again and she yelled "7 days, 2 plays a day! what is WRONG with that?" The police officer said "that should be 14" I had to turn my face to the police officer and said "THANK YOU!!!" Again, she correct her error with a very upset attitude. I even did not argue if my dog really got a bath or not - paid the bill and left. Before I left, I told her that I will leave a fair review online and won't use their service again. You can make your own decision if you want to let your dog stay with them or not. I guess it is also depends on which person you are dealing with but good luck if you run into this lady. read more

Thanks to Lori and Doug and their talented crew from Brigit the Springer Spaniel (and her parents). We were so thankful for a safe, clean, organized place for our dear girl to stay while we were on vacation. Since she's older and hasn't stayed in a kennel for several years we were a little concerned but a quick email update from Lori during Brigit's stay set us at ease.
