I like this place, it had a little of everything, skate park, enclosed jungle gym and swings for the kids, plenty of benches, pull up bars and other structures for your workout and trees to rest under. Bonus, there is a Rite Aid across the street if you get hungry for snacks or drinks. Parking is limited and if you are looking for aesthetics, you might not enjoy it. There is a homeless population that hangs here but I don't mind, they just want to rest. I personally like the ruggedness of the park, not all grass, not all dirt. read more

Bixby park has a lot going on. I mean that in every way possible. There's a skate park, a playground, workout stations, picnic tables, yoga, and the farmer's market twice a week. You'll see people hanging out, some sleeping on grassy areas, but I've never had any trouble or felt threatened at this park. There's a lot of parking from morning til late afternoon on weekdays. Finding parking on the weekends is nearly impossible. read more

I've just moved right around the corner from Bixby Park, so far it looks pretty nice, nice backdrop with the ocean view. but i did see a lot of homeless people looking at me. i haven't been around there at night time. it seems OK for right now. but i still have the feeling of crazy people being there at night. like ill get mugged or something. its a cool place to jog and do some exercise. you will catch around there on weekdays. read more

The grass is green, big shady trees, nice playground for kids, exercise apparatuses to work off the beer, skateboard area, new bathrooms, fresh ocean breeze. What more do you want? Yes there's a problem with the street people-as if there's a public area anywhere in LB that doesn't have them--but they're concentrated in two areas here: The north block of the park, between Broadway and 2nd especially around the kiosk; and the west side of the rec center building. Update Dec., 2017. The six new single-occupant bathrooms are a FAIL. With use not monitored, most are locked for hours at a time with crackheads smoking up, a street ho servicing customers, or a street person getting a few hours of sleep on the cement floor. This was soooo predictable. The old multi-user bathrooms---even stinking as bad as they did-- were at least unlockable so one could get in to take a quick piss. read more

Nice park for a quick run. Usually will make a couple laps around here on the weekends. You have a beautiful back drop of the ocean across the street. Definitely a family oriented park. See a lot people having picnics and throwing small gatherings here. They have a small jungle gym for kids and even a small skate area. lots of parking surrounding the perimeter of the park. Also there's a farmer's market really close by if you want to pick up some fresh produce. read more

When I come visit this park to do my little workouts, I feel inclined to leave sooner. I think it's because it doesn't look as appealing to the eyes other than being really close to the beach. There is a lot of traffic in & out of here and it can get crowded with events. I think if department of public works take better care of the grass, it would be a little more welcoming to the public because I see a lot of bald grass spots. The playground lacks equipment for children to play on such as a merry go round or the tire. Those are the best ones to play with! read more

I'm one of those types who can easily freak out when random kids of strangers run amuck, un-supervised w/nearby cars dodging in an out. Suddenly my brain is on high alert for unattended little ones especially in places w/hardly adequate fencing. But hey, it's a park...so roam free as you please you little cute monsters! ;-) ...just make sure Mommy or Daddy is nearby. I'm a big baby enough to worry for myself I think. Several large grass areas divided up by parking spaces would make it a semi-problem for families/friends to gather if group has coordination issues. 2-3soccer playing teams didn't find this problematic though. Plus, got to enjoy a Potluck Picnic & some Salsa Dancing at a super nice FREE outdoor summer series concert by an LB ocean view of the Queen Mary, major thanks to this posted event: http://www.meetup.com/Explore-Long-Beach/calendar/13834284/ ...wonderful group, wonderful time. Even the light overcast couldn't dampen the fun spirit & cool jazzy music. Like other previous park concerts experienced, only lament is the good stuff don't last long enough. At least park is an easy walk thru to nearby Hot Java Cafe &/or Park Pantry for chill hangout or late meals. Still, can't complain, for small parks to gather a moderate crowd of locals/visitors is mighty fine. Expect plenty of sweet hand-holding & friendly smiles from all over LB. read more

I love this park. I hangout here all the time. *People that complain about drug users/street kids/homeless people should consider having some empathy. I've never seen anyone openly doing drugs other than smoking weed and I've spent weeks at a time in this park at all hours of the day and night. I never see any homeless people causing problems or breaking into cars or fighting or anything like that. They're people too. You might not be so quick to judge if that was someone you loved sleeping on the grass. If they're not actually causing you problems, then get over it. Street dwellers have been part of the culture in Long Beach/most of LA county for decades. Move to OC if you want to live in a cookie cutter cultureless suburbia with a Starbucks on every corner. Street people are an essential part of the vibe that probably brought you to Long Beach in the first place. It's sad that the cops have started hassling/kicking people out of the park after 10pm and locking the bathrooms now. Just remember that this doesn't stop people from having to sleep and go to the bathroom, it just forces them to do both on the sidewalk in front of your house now. Contact the LBPD and let your voice be heard if you're with me. **Also, consider that about a whopping 40% of homeless youth in America are LGBTQ kids. They end up here from all over SoCal (and the country) because they're exiled by their families and local communities simply for being who they are. read more

I love this park and walk my dog and baby through it almost daily. It is actually quite safe despite some of the shit in my review. This park sums of Long Beach in so many ways. Last week, as I was pushing my baby around in the stroller, I came up to a drunken fight between some local drunkards. The lady broke a 40 oz and try to cut the dude's neck. It sounds worse than it actually was. Then the cops came and acted like cops, the lady got away. Then I watched the skateboarders not land any tricks. Then I watched kids miss all their shots on the basketball courts with temporary backboards. Then I walked by the guy selling corn. Then I walked by the 20 or so toddlers playing on the playground. Then I walked by a very serious game of soccer. Then I walked by the weird guy dry humping a picnic table with his ass simulating anal sex (yes I'm serious). This park is fucking great! read more

Bixby Park, I'm bumping you up a star for something hosting really great, semi-impromptu events :)

This park is actually more like three separate parks that are very close together. Park One- This is more like grass on top of a bluff that overlooks the water. There is a lovely bench, yes just one, so I would not advise visiting this Long Beach hot spot with more that one, maybe two friends if you are all small people, or children, or little people. However, this is a great place to sit and enjoy nice summer days and read, or visit it at night with a date to watch the lights of the port, which is surprisingly pretty at night. Park Two- This Park is located in the center section. It has a nice playground that is great if you have little ones and it also has a band-shell that hosts the summer band nights. There are several tables dispersed throughout the park, which are great for picnics and such. Park Three- This park is my personal favorite. The grass and trees are great. There is a fountain, which only works randomly. There is also a built in workout area. I like this section of the park is my personal favorite, and my son's favorite. There are a lot of squirrels in this area of the park and they are all very tame. My son and I really enjoy sitting with a bag of peanuts and letting the squirrels take them out of our hands. This is really good for a variety of reasons. One, it is a really cheap way to spend an hour or two with my son, only costs about $1 to get the peanuts. We get the chance to just hangout and talk and spend time together. I also like it because it teaches him compassion towards animals and the importance of taking care of the environment. It also teaches him patience. The squirrels are sometimes a bit hesitant to take the nuts and he has to sit and wait for them to feel safe enough to approach him. We talk about why animals don't really trust people very much because people sometimes hurt animals. Now he asks me take him to see his squirrel friends. This park is not the best place to be after dark. The ocean front bluff is okay, but the other two sections tend to get a little shady after dark. All in all it is a lot of fun for not a lot of cash and if you have little ones it gives a great chance to sit and talk without all of the overstimulating effects of television, computer, movies, etc. read more

I come here every week to feed our homeless family through the church I go to. We bring hot food and lots of love. The park is big enough that you can stay away from whatever group of people you want to stay away from, the view is nice and the weather seems to always be good. There's skaters, homeless, families, you name it. Always a good time. read more

Wow, my first impression of this park was outstanding on a weekday with my toddler. It was quiet and has a great open space facing Ocean Avenue and an expansive view of the waterfront. However, it turns ghetto evenings and weekends. You can no longer see the waterfront, the play area is messy (food, drinks. broken toys) and kids are out of control. My boy has been repeatedly run over! There are some local druggies, one of which tried to steal my camera from our stroller. I think the presence of the skate park and the exercise section have some regulating effect on the area, as many of the regulars respect the park. We continue to come, but our visits are shorter and less often.. read more

This was an okay park, the grass is a bit worn but there were large shade trees and it is a nice sized square area. Close proximity to the beach. Had a BBQ here and as long as you come early to reserve there are tables and grills and a large open grassy area. It is police patrolled which was great to have! This park is beautiful....during the day. At night it can be a little sketchy. I have a soft spot for the homeless and the unfortunate. Be that as it may, they tend to gather here after dark, and they make it a little unsavory. But this park has a great farmer's market every Tuesday and Saturday. My boyfriend and I love coming here. I love this cute little park. It overlooks the ocean and it a great place for a bbq!!! The people around are friendly! My daughter really likes it here too because there is a lot of space to play. Oh Lord! I remember running to the bathrooms here at 6am cuz I had to go really bad and its disgusting, no not just disgusting, absolutely revolting! I'm a preschool teacher and came here to mingle with the preschool parents and my students! This park is so active! It was a Tuesday evening and so many families were out and the children looked happy. They had great interesting uniquely updated play equipment. I came here hungry too and they had so many farmer's markets to choose from. I ended up getting some pupusas and listened to music playing while I waited. The food filled me up real quick! It just seemed like an overall great environment to be in. read more

It is nice to live one block from this park. It is one of the reasons I chose my apartment. Although it can get sketchy at night, and even sometimes during the day, as long as you are not an idiot, you will be safe. Keep your wits about you! Don't walk alone at night or cut through for a shortcut. Lots of family BBQs and picnics on Sundays. Kids come here to skate or play soccer. The front part overlooks the beach which is gorgeous. It's nice to know that when you feel suffocated amongst all of the apartments and sprawl of the LBC, there is a refuge to relax and enjoy some time outside. My man and I like to play catch with the nerf ball and sometimes have a picnic dinner at sunset. The best thing to do is get ice cream from RiteAid and chill out on the grass. On the weekends, people like to flaunt their lowriders or custom cars which is fun to see. Great restaurants surround this park and lots of community activities (like movie in the park) happen here. I never heard it be called "Drug Park" but that totally makes sense. read more

The park is nice but the new restrooms are some of the most disgusting restrooms I've ever encountered. Never looks like there was an even an attempt to clean up. Why no toilet liners? A great local park. Good location right by the water, there's plenty of restaurants stores close by. They hold a farmers market here on Tuesdays, there's a small skate "park", and plenty of shady trees, barbecues, and room for activities. Don't jungle gyms for younger kids. I like the park but on the Ocean side the city installed these large boulders right down the middle of the park. The rocks do not add to the aesthetics of the park and they seem on to deter the soccer players from using the park yet the yoga people can take over 1/4 of the park without a peep.
