A nice little park located right off Ocean Blvd. The Orchestra Band was amazing. Even better it was free. You brought your own beach chairs to sit on or a blanket to lie or sit on and you can bring your own food if you like. It was an enjoyable evening. Now. Yes the BAD, since there are so many dogs around the area had an extremely strong odor of Dog Poopoo and urine which was discomforting, so sad. Funny thing I attempted to do a check-in at the park but Yelp kept saying I was not close enough. I guess the pictures were from somewhere else. read more

This place somewhat changed from when I was last here. There used to be a water feature/fountain on one side many years ago. I guess it's somewhat of an upgrade. It's broken down to different section but all connects to each other. You have the playground in the middle section and then parks on both side. I think there's a section for dogs as well. But mainly I prefer across the street which it could technically be a different name. It's looks over to the beach and is along the bluff area. Nice view of the water and marina. This visit there were loads of vendors selling things. Not sure if it's a common thing or every other weekend. Park is still pretty busy regardless whenever you go. read more

Such a beautiful Sunday by the ocean, great view overlooking the sea-you are able to see the Queen Mary, relaxing in the sun watching people either reading a book, napping, walking, riding their bikes &, enjoying their peaceful time out of the house. My nephew and his friends often hang out at this park which I learned it is called The Bluff. My first time I came here was when it was the perfect timing, I was able to watch the sunset with my nephew. This is the second time I came here to see my nephew and to meet more of his friends. read more

I enjoy Bixby Park! There's some workout equipment, a taco/burrito stand that pops up at seemingly random hours on Cherry/Ocean intersection, and otherwise a lot of green space. At the end of Bixby Park, there's donation-based yoga at 11am year-round which is pretty sweet and deserves five-stars on its own right. At night, the park can be a little sketchy, but it's not too bad. Lots of space for pop up grills and such throughout the day and during the summer they have some concerts here on Tuesdays! The park has plenty to offer; however, it is all very difficult to enjoy, unless you stay off the grass, as the grass is riddled with fleas. It's been this way for over 2 years and no one has done anything. I took a stroll through the park and walked on the grass briefly, even though I knew better from prior experience, and instant regret. Every once in a while I like to switch it up and work-out at a park, but not many parks have all the equipment I need to get a balanced workout. Fortunately, this park does. It has multiple stations with pull-up bars, dip bars, and other equipment to get a good workout. I found that it is a great place to do interval sprints while going to each station found along the periphery of this park. In the middle sits a vast lawn where you can have barbecues or play team sports. The locals seem to be friendly, and I say many families finishing up their family picnics the night I came here to work out. This park sits very close to the water, and the surrounding neighborhood is not too bad. For a good chance-up to your workout, or for a nice time outdoors with your family, check this park out. read more

Never has one small park had so many split personalities. This one has 4 minimum. Maybe 5 or 6 if you include night and day. You have a 4 section rectangular city park that runs North-South separated by East-West running cross streets. The North area is where you're hearing mention of shady characters and unpleasant smells. It borders Broadway on the North edge. Cross 2nd St heading South and this next section is pretty nice. This is where a lot of activities take place including the skating and play areas. Keep going South across 1st St and you're now in a nice wide fairly shaded area. This is where people set up for picnics, etc. One final push South across Ocean and you're in a more wide open area. This part overlooks the beach. Can't speak for the nighttime but this park gets a lot of use, especially on the weekend and Holidays and has a mellow relaxed feel to it, which is what a park should have. read more

It might be sketchy at night, but during the day... maybe sketchy-lite. Bixby Park is cool because it's simple: one big block between Ocean and Broadway. There's PLENTY of room to look at bums. Bonus: the rainbow-colored crosswalk for photo ops (it's located in what is affectionately known as The Gay Ghetto), it's near food and coffee options including Rite Aid for ice cream, it's surprisingly clean and lush, it's across the street from the ocean, and they house community events like movies, the Bob Baker Marionettes show (which is so great I came down from San Jose to see it again), and live music... but with all the bums it's like Hobochella. read more

Reasons why i continue to return to bixby park: 1) good flat-ground for skating (without hassle from the lbpd) 2) pull-up bars, dip bars, etc. for working out (no gym necessary) 3) it neighbors the bike path (once again, no gym necessary!) Sure some areas of the park reek of piss (prob b/c there are no bathrooms). sure there's the occasional homeless character(s). and surely there have been times when i just keep on cruising thru the park, without stopping, because there's a group of 10+ big, black men who could all kick the living shit out of me.... but i like it here. Definitely a place to appreciate in the daylight hours, and no later than 4-5 pm. until i get mugged, shot, or kidnapped, ill continue to make bixby park my local gym/skatepark. read more

Omgosh! Having lived in the Carroll Park area for several years, what a delight to see what they have done with the park. I use to be scared walking around the area. Every Tuesday they hold a Farmers Market until 8:00 pm. I walked about 5 blocks from my hot condo, and was totally mesmerized with the quality of the produce sold here. It was nice to see parents and kids at this park, and the shady characters no where in sight. I actually sat and had a ceviche tostada with a nice French couple who made room at their table. Great vibe and they even let me sample some of their food. There is a variety of food to eat. Mexican/Chinese and even Indian food. Lots of gluten-free products, and plenty of samples. Overall, out of all the Farmers Market that I have been in other beach cities-this was the Best! The people were awesome, and their was an air of camaraderie here in Long Beach. read more

Wow, a beautiful park right by the beach. It is on a bluff and you can get a great view of the Queen Mary and the walking trail. A great place to relax or do some yoga if that's your thing. There are stairs beautifully constructed to take you to the beach. I would park by the beach and enjoy the area. The parking meters at the top only allow you to park for an hour. I thought I'd reviewed this park years ago. It's a wonderful park. I first came upon it when walking the beach. I saw about 100 people doing yoga on the bluff. I took the beach route up the hill and discovered this park that overlooks the beach. There are three sections to the park. Moving from the south, the first section is a bluff overlooking the beach. There is a large grassy section on the west side, and a smaller grassy section on the right side (of that street with the hill). Ocean Boulevard separates this section from the other two sections. When you cross the street you will find the only available free beach parking in Long Beach. Both north sections offer Farmer's market days, music in the park days, festival in the park days, barbecue pits, et cetera. It's a really convenient place to hang out in Long Beach without the sand. And with Hot Java and that breakfast place across the street, you can stay here all day. The Long Beach Art Museum and Claire's is also connected. I wish I lived in walking distance of this neighborhood. I would do yoga and bluff meditation everyday. read more

It's located adjacent to the ocean and has so much history!!! There have been many improvements made over the past few years. There is a new sand box and jungle gym area for children, a skate park area, and of course the beautiful band stand. There is a weekly farmers market, daily free yoga, and overall, a beautiful place to sit and watch the world go by! The draw backs are that the park is so beautiful that at times, the homeless tend to congregate here. I sure love this park. It is divided into 2 areas that I'll refer as the North (by the Community Center and restroom) and South Side (overlooking the water). A portion of the south area is under construction. The renovation is almost complete and so far it looks beautiful. It provides a great view of the Ocean, the Queen Mary and the Belmont Pier. This area also has FREE (donations accepted) Yoga every day at 11am and again at 6pm (not available on Sat & Sun) thanks to the amazing Yogalution Movement & Ayurveda staff. The north side of the park is huge. It has several grills and picnic tables with ample space for exercising, grilling, playing...soccer, frisbee, flag football..etc. There is also a built in skateboard ramp and rails, fenced in playground with sand and swings and a restroom. On Tuesdays from 3-7pm, you can buy local by buying your fresh produce at the Harvest Farmer's Market. Great park to house outside birthday party or events. read more

This was the spot for SoCal Spartan WOD 2013 although the training course was right across the street. Well, it was a Saturday early morning and parking was still abundant. As we waited, all spots were gradually filled with bikers, runners and walkers. The park was clean. The restroom was not. Missing doors!!!! Though there were no surprises of both expected and unexpected human dirt, soap was not part of it. I can't whine. I just prayed. read more

So here is the breakdown of bixby/cherry park. The portion closest to broadway is known as drug park, don't go there unless you want to experience hanging out with tweakers, ex cons and crack heads. I know this through observation because I've been skating this park for years. The middle portion is safe, theres a little playground and skatepark. The skatepark actually keeps the bums and crackheads out of the area because they hate the noise. The other portion over sees a bluff, I think there are yoga classes there saturday mornings. This is the most scenic portion of the park and i'd recomend having a picnic here, but if you plan to bbq there are designated areas between ocean and 1st street. My most memorable experience has to have been strolling through drug park on a gorgeous sunday afternoon with my wife and doggy en route to hot java and lo an behold, watching an intoxicated beast of a lady drop her drawers and take a piss on the grass. Stay classy long beach. Also the bixby park recreation center offers some adult classes, yoga, chess and ceramics to name a few. read more

Not a bad park, ample space for a bunch of ppl. It's actually kept quite clean as well, the several times I've been here I have never seen trash strewn about on the grounds. There's a playground for kids, a skate park adjacent, an open grassy area, but I'd be careful of certain trees that have had huge chunks of branches cut/fell down. Restrooms are on the south side of the park toward the beach. Haven't had too many issues with parking though I've only come on weekday afternoons. I fell in love with Long Beach because of Bixby Park and Bluff Park. I've been living literally adjacent to it for the last couple years and there's great people watching here. From the Tuesday/Saturday Farmer's markets, Yoga in the Park, Skate board park, Seniors doing Tai Chi, to the people who come far and wide to spend a nice sunny afternoon with their family and friends BBQing and playing horse shoes. The new bathrooms could use cleanup so that's a tough part but there's another bathroom as well at the community center near the skate park. read more

2. Wow! I've lived here for so long and I love love love the new digs! There is a new play place with awesome toys to play on for the kids, a little skate park. There are plenty of seats for parents and onlookers. Also, the park added exercise machines which I know one of my friends uses almost on a daily basis. I think this will be my park from now on. I love this park. I used to live right down the street from it - but spend a full day in this park and you are guaranteed a show! The Good: *Awesome street skate park where you can see pros tearing it up on any given day. *Farmers Market with live music - how sweet is that! *Free yoga! *BBQ pits to throw your meat on the grill *Awesome views of the ocean and access to the beach! *Jungle gym for your children to run and scream The Bad: *With any parks you got your homeless crowd. But I feel this crowd here has some crazy drama that goes on daily. I've seen quite a few fights between homeless crews and most end up with a dude laying unconscious in the park or bathroom. *Besides the ring side view of fights, you can also check out people shooting up - in the park, next to your bbq....chase the white dragon? Nah homie, I'm trying to chase this hamburger with extra ketchup! It's a cool, beautiful park, and I know LBPD and the local government are working to keep it clean and classy. read more

Bixby Park is right across the street from the ocean, which provides a pretty backdrop; unfortunately, this doesn't keep the park from being sketchy, even midday. It's a shame, because the park has so much to offer: a community center, space for sports, a playground, etc. The parking is minimal and I'd guess that on weekends it gets pretty full, and if you don't park, well, there's a "no cruising" sign, which is never a good one. Maybe I read the area all wrong, maybe the park is great, but there was something about it that told me not to hold my picnic there. read more

This location is perfect it's a lot parking the children love this and they have different swing sets current apparatus It's a Wonderful location they have a gate surrounding the playground and you shut the gate so you can allow the little ones to play freely while the parents watch from the benches. The children have different interest so this playground works for all children in ages. What's playing around me very family-orientated it's more of a village than a park. read more

Disclaimer: This review is only for visiting in the DAYTIME. I have walked past this park a few times on my walk to the beach and decided to go through it with my dog. She loved it as there were plenty of other leashed dogs hanging out with their owners and lots of squirrels to chase up trees. There are also some outdoor workout areas where people do pull-ups and sit-ups. Kind of intimidating for me, but people seem to always be using them. It's a pretty spacious place to hang out with friends on a blanket, throw a frisbee, play some soccer, etc. Lovely day, lovely experience, pretty cool park! read more

We've seen significant positive changes at Bixby Park for years! Saturday and Tuesday farmers market, Greenfield training stations were added by Council Suja Lowenthal, recently a dog park was added. We are also taking the ceramics there at the center, several sessions now with an incredibly talent instructor and full scale studio. The stage shell has musicians on market days and there are bbq grills and many tables available. The Camp Bixby childrens gated park with new equipment was installed! The skate park is amazing with high talent board competitions. As neighbors we are happy to also belong to Friends of Bixby Park, follow them on Instagram and Facebook. Make the Park you want to see! Great park,......tends to be crowded more often than not, but that's okay. It's good to see the neighborhood taking advantage of it. I recently visited the Farmer's Market that happens on Tuesday evenings, It's small but fun and there's some great vendors and delicious food as well. I recommend checking it out sometime if you're in the area. read more

When the bf and I were looking for house around the Belmont/Alamitos area, we were enamored by this park. We had plans of walking the dogs, Bo and Tango, to the park and letting them run around - on the leash of course. But since moving 4 blocks away we just pass the park by on the way to the beach. The reality of this park is that it smells like pee and people have their big dogs unleashed. I'm afraid to actually go to the park for fear that my boys, Bo and Tango will be attacked by bigger dogs. Yes. This park is an oasis after being around the concrete jungle. read more

Despite all of the homeless people and occasional weirdos, this park is very nice. I live in the neighborhood so I walk through this park almost daily and love all of the activities that go on here. The first part of the park near broadway (the sketchiest section) has a nice park gym workout area that I always see people using. The next section has a small skatepark (always crowded in the afternoons) and a community center. The next section off first has a beautiful grassy area with picnic tables and small grills to have picnics. The middle sections are also where the weekly farmers markets are held from 3 to 7 on Tuesdays. The final section is a small grassy area that overlooks the beach and also where the hold free yoga on the bluffs. This park could use a little cleaning and fixing up. But overall it's a nice place to walk and workout. read more

02/06/2016 -- This park is nice but parking is not prevalent. Usually, parking is restricted on Saturdays during farmers market or some sort of flee market. It's good for skating. I saw some arts-n-crafts but I don't know what type, maybe pottery. Bathrooms are a mess and not very sanitary so bring your own tp fosho. read more

Beautiful, grassy, shaded park just across from white sandy beach. Ample free parking (on weekends there's always a side street not too far, even if the park is full) Public restrooms available, usable free grills, skate park down the street at Junipero Serra, minimal homeless- that don't bother anyone anyway. Well kept, safe, good visible law enforcement who seem very polite, ample eateries and stores within walking, dogs allowed. Free parks like these are why I'm happy to pay taxes. You can have an amazing day here without having to spend a penny. read more
