MacArthur is located right on Anaheim, which I don't like; I want a park to be a peaceful place, and being on a major street doesn't cut it. The park itself is really ehhh. There's a community center (portable bungalows) with a lot of elaborate graffiti, which I was sort of unclear on. Some of it was definitely invited, but some of it just looked like neighborhood kids decided to add their own tags. People were playing basketball, kids were running around in the grass, and there was a guy with an ice cream pushcart. There were a fair amount of picnic benches, grouped together under eucalyptus trees, which would be nice for people who have big birthday parties in the park, and yes, there's room for a bouncy castle. The parking lot holds maybe 10 cars, but there's street parking. Still, I found it sketchy, or at least unappealing, and didn't want to hold my own picnic there.

I've attended events here and it's a nice space. It's nice to have park spaces in neighborhoods.

Awesome remodel. The park is beautiful and fun for families. Yoga, workout machines, new basketball court, and great kids play area.

A nice sunny afternoon at the park calls for a little picnic. The old days are completely different…read moreat this park. Decades later, it's a whole new place. Still nice but with a major upgrade. It's part of the aquarium of the pacific just along the harbor. There's a parking lot that's part of it but the payment situations was a bit of a mess. Paying with credit card on the machine was a hit or miss. Which i also found out from someone else there. It's probably easy just to do it from your phone. It's a decent size parking lot but there's also parking at the structure just next to the aquarium. It's a cute rolling hill park that looks out to both the queen mary, shoreline village and the harbor. Depending on what side you are. It's a cute little walk around with the lighthouse on top. There's benches scattered throughout the park for seating. There's even a little beach like path along the harbor. Regardless which side you are, the view is quite beautiful. There's also fishing that you could do on the pier. You'll see people about and about walking, picnicking, walking with their dogs or a stroll. Long Beach has its hidden gems and this place was one of them.

Quieter, green grass (it'd be nice to bring a book here) away from the hustle and bustle. And the views are hard to beat, the Lighthouse, the shore with boats and Queen Mary in the near distance. Bring a snack, a drink, take a nice break here, a cool walk to explore the Shoreline Park. Always enjoyable!

Drake Park is a space with potential, but it is in definite need of consistent care, maintenance,…read moreand stronger oversight from park staff. My family and I have visited this park on several occasions for picnics and playtime with my nephew and niece, and each visit has included experiences that could use significant improvement. The atmosphere and activity level of the park seem to vary depending on the weather and time of day. One of the first challenges visitors may encounter is the parking situation--particularly within the circular parking area near the end of the road. The issue is not necessarily the angle of the parking itself, but rather the layout, which seems to encourage inconsiderate parking habits. During busier hours, people frequently attempt to park bumper-to-bumper without regard for surrounding vehicles, making the area unnecessarily difficult to navigate. Upon settling into the park, it became immediately noticeable that the picnic tables were not being properly maintained. Many of the tables were covered in bird droppings, dried food residue, and other questionable debris. These areas clearly require daily cleaning and routine power washing in order to remain sanitary and usable for the public. The restroom conditions were even more concerning. Drake Park has two separate bathroom areas, and one of them was in extremely poor condition. The level of filth was excessive and appeared to reflect a lack of routine upkeep and sanitation. The individual stalls, floors, doors, and toilets were all noticeably unclean, making the facilities difficult to use comfortably or safely. During one visit, an unrelated woman aggressively approached my family and began yelling that my nephew and his grandmother could not use one of the restroom areas. The behavior was startling, inappropriate, and completely unacceptable, especially toward children in a public park environment. Another recurring issue at this location is the lack of supervision among some of the children using the playground areas. While my nephew and niece were attempting to play and socialize respectfully, a group of unattended children began singling out my niece with insults, sneering remarks, and inappropriate name-calling. No parents or guardians were present to correct the behavior, which ultimately required intervention from me directly. The situation was disappointing and reflected a broader lack of supervision and accountability within the park environment. Overall, Drake Park currently attracts an atmosphere that often feels chaotic and poorly managed. Public parks reflect the level of care invested into them, and when maintenance, cleanliness, and oversight are neglected, it inevitably impacts the quality of the environment and the behavior it attracts. With stronger upkeep, improved sanitation, and more visible management presence, this park could become a far more welcoming and enjoyable space for families and the surrounding community.

It surprised me how naturally the park gave off that youthful atmosphere without trying too hard. The open spaces and colorful areas almost felt like spots made for taking pictures, and they did not cost anything to enjoy, which makes them perfect for teenagers who like hanging out and being creative. It was my first time at Whaley Park, and I did not realize how much there was to enjoy until I walked around. I appreciated how easy it was to relax there without feeling rushed or crowded, even with all the teens playing games, taking photos, and talking with each other. Some parts of the park looked a little older or worn down, which is part of why I am giving it four stars instead of five, but nothing took away from the overall experience. I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped it would. I have only visited Whaley Park once before writing this review, but it ended up being one of the more enjoyable and energetic parks I have been to in a long time. I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because they would love the open spaces, the sports areas, the photo spots, and the creative vibe. It gives them a place to have fun, take pictures, and feel inspired in a simple and playful environment.
