I have been to this location so many times, it is my go-to in Gainesville and I even bragged that I had never had any bad experiences here or at the other locations I have visited. Yesterday ruined it for me. My wife and I went in the late afternoon, there were a few folks drinking at the bar and maybe five other customers at tables. Our appetizer took 42 minutes and was delivered with our entrees, the waiter automatically comped the appetizer which was so overdone as to be inedible and the meat temperature was at least two to three minutes off. I had been ready to pay for the drinks and leave when the food arrived. I so rarely write a review, especially a bad one, but I was very disappointed and, I suppose, what it made it worse was that the staff was sure having a great time hanging out, chatting, leaning on the bar, and even sitting at tables in the dining room. Called in a reservation for 10 and was told we had an hour wait as only to get here about 45 minutes later to have the Clowns at reception inform us that our wait started when we arrived. Shared my disappointment with the manager as the group headed out to BW3s. The manager is a nice guy but struggles to get the performance of the employees working as he was in the kitchen working his tail off while lazy employees stand around the restaurant doing nothing for long periods of time. read more

I brought my class work and was seated in a booth spacious enough for me and my course work. My waiter was very nice and greeted me with a smiles. The initial wait time to be seared was about 30mins, I did arrive around 7/8pm so that was to be expected. But over all I enjoyed myself, the food was fresh, nachos were very cheesy but not too harsh on the stomach for those Curious and consuming different cheeses. Dined at this location while passing through on our way home from vacation. Shelby and her colleagues took amazing care of us at the bar. The potstickers and tuna poke apps were delicious. The shrimp tacos and triple-tip bowl were perfectly prepared and tasty. The restaurant got busy and the kitchen a little backed up, and without us even having to ask about our food the manager approached to apologize and offered us a soup and/or salad each. The food is overpriced and not really great. Everybody in our party ordered something different and nobody loved anything. I personally had a worse experience. I ordered tacos and told the waitress very clearly to ask for no red onions because I am allergic to them. They make my tongue and throat swell and it's really awful. When she brought the food, she gave it to me and said "no red onion" but when I started eating the second taco I realize that I had just swallowed a red onion and was immediately feeling the effects. When the waitress came with the bill I told her what was happening and that I was all allergic. She asked if I was OK but then said or did nothing else beyond that. We went here as a team with about 50 people. It was super great at catering to the group. They got everyone's order correct and everything came out quickly. The servers were nice and restaurant was clean. My salad with salmon was super good. We also got a flatbread and chips and guac. All of the food was good. I am biased because I did not have to pay for it. It does look a bit pricey for a sports bar type of setting. Great for large groups and has lots of TVs to watch the sports games. It is very similar to Miller's Ale House, but it has a lot more food options. Went out to celebrate a graduation. I know it was busy but we were sat 30 minutes past our reservation time. We were offered a couple of free appetizers. The manager didn't even communicate that to our server, further delaying the process. Our server was never at our table. Waters weren't refilled until after we had gotten our desert. Appetizers came after we got our entrees, which had been delivered one by one, not at the same time. All of the food took forever , which I guess was because it was busy. Two of our steaks were severely undercooked. When we got the new ones, a long time later, they were smaller, more bland, and still poorly cooked. Don't know if the poor service was because she was busy and figured she could ignore us since we had automatic gratuity, however, clearly she had to much on her plate and did not help our already poor experience with the waiting and the food. This was our first visit to BJs. The restaurant has a really neat vibe and is quite spacious inside. There is outdoor dining available also. Quite an extensive menu and seems to be very American Traditional in scope. We chose fish n chips, California Club Flatbread, chicken tenders and jumbo spaghetti and meatballs. Overall the food was standard as was the service. The fish was the standout dish from all four. Although we didn't try any of the beer/lagers/ale today, it certainly looks like a great and fun place to do so. There's a huge beer menu on the main wall to make choosing easy. We were in town for a high school basketball tournament. After the game, I called and spoke to the manager of BJ's Jeff and explained we had 30 hungry players and parents and asked if they would be able to seat us and feed us. We had already been turned down across the street. Jeff with no hesitation said, head this way, give my team and I a few minutes and we will take care of you. With in 10-15 minutes all 30 of us were seated and the amazing service team was taking care of us. Drinks and apps arrived almost within minutes and we all had meals soon after. The food was delicious, drinks were cold and the service was amazing!! The restaurant was large and they seated us off to the side so we could all sit together. I've eaten here twice, and the food has been only so-so. I was nearby recently and decided to give the Gainesville location another shot. That was a mistake. The bar was full of rowdy guys hooting, hollering, clapping, etc., at some televised sporting event. Then, I had to ask to be seated as far from those guys as possible so that I could have a quiet dinner. But the waiter for my section ignored me. He came around to another table or two in the section, even though he never came near me. After 10-15 minutes of that bad service, I got up and told the hostess, who wasn't at her station for a good bit, that I was leaving and would probably never return. She apologized, but not particularly sincerely. Keep in mind folks that this was early (4:30-5:00 p.m.) and the place wasn't crowded except for the bar. Have visited BJ's in Miami and several other times when I moved to Gainesville and I have to admit that the food never impressed me. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it was bad...it was just OK. The last time before this visit, I went there not knowing that it was Pizookie night and the place was jam packed with college kids to get their sweet tooth on. The wait was over an hour for food and I ordered the pretzel (very good) and the wings which left alot to be desired. My friend ordered the pan pizza and although he liked it... thought it was mediocre. So a couple of days ago, We were out running errands and decided to eat out. Since it was late...almost 9p....most places were closing or they were already closed and being on Newberry....we decided to revisit BJ's which is open until midnight. I have to say it wasn't my choice and I would have preferred Applebee's but my friend was eager to go to BJ's . Although we had been there in the past 2 months, there seemed to be a different look as though it had been refreshed...new booths, new pictures. I wasn't sure what I wanted but after much indecision, I figured...why not just get a burger. Our waitress (sorry I can't remember her name) was cute and very attentive and the questions I had were answered promptly and very much helpful. I ordered the BBQ bacon burger....as med rare as possible as I've learned that in most cases, even at expensive burger places, they only know one way of cooking it and thats well done. I detest well done...will not even eat it and will send it back. The food arrived quickly and plates were attractive and the food looked like it was done correctly. I have to admit...I was so surprised that when I bit into the burger, quite a task to begin with as its more then a mouthful...it was hot, juicy and delicious. and best of all...medium rare. So incredibly tasteful that I just couldn't stop. I was able to control myself and joyfully took home more then half in a doggy bag to be enjoyed the next day for lunch without the nasty leftover flavor. I had a choice of sides and asked the waitress what she recommended as I'm not a big fan of fries. She told me that her favorite was mashed potatoes but I opted for a load baked potato which was also top notch....done perfectly and lots of yummy toppings. This is coming from someone who has been both a delivery person and someone receiving a delivery from them through a third party app. The people that work the to-go/delivery service area don't care AT ALL about your to-go/delivery order. As a delivery person, MULTIPLE times I've arrived at the to-go area, stated the name of the order to be picked up, and without looking at their computer, looking behind them at the wall of prepared orders, or looking at my phone for confirmation; they will look you dead in the face and say "it's still being prepared it'll be ready in 5 minutes." I've waited up to 30 minutes multiple times before for very simple orders, and when I go up to ask for an update, it's an immediate "it'll be ready in 5 minutes." The food is fine and if you sit down and eat the service is good. But AVOID to-go or ordering through a third party app like the PLAGUE. They don't care AT ALL. read more

Came here on a Saturday night after the first UF game, obviously the place was slammed! Just make sure to call in ahead if you think it's going to be busy, but their system is great as they send you a text whenever your table is ready. Once seated, our waiter was great and brought waters without even asking. Their entire menu is online and you just have to scan the QR code on the table. Very simple and great way adapting to the covid pandemic. They also had paper straws and had multiple football games running on TV all around the restaurant. I ended up getting the bacon guacamole deluxe burger, and it's one of the best burgers i've had in a while. I will not lie it is pretty calorie dense alongside the fries it comes with, but it was delicious. Bacon cooked great and the guacamole complimenting it made it absolutely worth it! My party member got the bone-in wings with celery and they were also good! Food did not disappoint either of us, but do better wary it runs a little pricey for what you pay for (my burger was like 14 after tax). Overall, great food at a modest price, definitely a little classier than a bar while still having good food and appetizers. I ordered BJ's using a delivery service, while working at the hospital, so my review will be based solely on the food and will not contain any review of the actual facility. I ordered a mini deep dish pizza with pepperoni, white cheddar mashed potatoes, calamari, and sweet potato fries. It was an odd combination of food but I wanted to try so many different things. I dug in to the calamari right off the bat because I wanted the crispness.... the calamari portion was larger than expected but very tasty and excellent all around. The marinara sauce appeared to be homemade as there were large chunks of tomato here and there. I thoroughly enjoyed the marinara sauce... but there just wasn't enough for the portion. I was left with the other sauce. It was a mayonnaise/horseradish of sort. I ate it. Though I would have preferred the marinara... it too was delectable . Moving on to the sweet potato fries. They were good but something was missing. Maybe honey as a dipping sauce or something. Not sure. But the weren't the best and definitely not the worst I've ever had. White cheddar mash potato... Smoky cheese favor, with chunks of potatoes throughout. Nothing special about this dish. And it was acceptable. The mini pizza. Delicious from start to finish. I like the thick pieces of tomato, with pepperoni throughout. The crust was perfect. Probably my favorite dish out of all of these. But then again that calamari was up there too. This is a tough choice between the pizza and the calamari, but I guess it all depends on what you want to eat since they are in different ball parks. Really enjoyed the food read more

I even ended up getting a free Pozooki with my BJ loyalty points AND buying two movie tickets at a discount price ask your server for details. Score! First time visiting BJ's in Gainesville, FL. We didn't have to wait long to get seated at noon. The restaurant and bar areas were clean and there was ample space to sit. The server got our drink order right away as we perused the menu. My wife and I both got the Strawberry Fields Chicken Salad. It is only available at lunch time. Our guest got the lunch size Italian Chicken Parmigiana pasta. Everything was very good and the price was reasonable. We have had a rash of overpriced meals lately at other restaurants so it was refreshing to get out without breaking the bank. The service was also good. Alright, sit down and prepare yourselves for the ultimate BJ's review. This girl is about to educate you all on how to get the best deals here. The number one reason why I absolutely love BJ's is their potato skins. I am absolutely obsessed with potatoes and any variation of cheese fries with bacon, sour cream, and green onions. BJ's has by far the best ones. Happy hour is every day before 7 pm and ONLY in the cocktail area. Basically, if you come before 7 pm you get 50% off appetizers, $3 wines, and a variety of other deals. The best day to come is on Tuesdays before 7 pm. Why is that, you ask? Because you get 50% off appetizers PLUS your drink deals PLUS $3 pizookies. You absolutely can't go wrong with their cookies and cream pizookie. Like, if you don't get the oreo one, did you even go to BJ's??? My friend and I came one time for happy hour and each got a glass of wine, split 2 appetizers (which are HUGE by the way), AND a pizookie and each paid less than $10. WHAT. Where else can you get that amount of food, wine and dessert for that price? I'll tell you: nowhere. Favorite appetizers: crispy potato skins (of course), bone-in buffalo wings, and mozzarella sticks. The avocado egg-rolls were just ok. All of the appetizers come in huge portions so are definitely share-able, but the nacho one is the largest of them all. If you order that, be prepared for it to take up about half the table. If you are a regular like me, you should also sign up for the rewards. Once you reach a certain amount of points you get $10 off, plus any deals they are offering emailed to you. Something I just noticed today is that they are doing a $6 take-home entree deal (select entrees only) with a minimum $9.95 food purchase.
