I love this place. I had also never hear of this chain until moving to the DMV. They do require a membership for entry/purchases, but they run deals all the time for new members. This is where I buy my gas, toiletries, and large quantity items. The gas prices are always lower than the places nearby so that keeps me coming back. The lines for gas in the afternoon, evenings, and weekends are long so I tend to go early morning. When it comes to shopping in store I utilize and love the curbside pick up. Sometimes (often), it takes more than 10-15 minutes for my order to be brought to me. When I go inside I always take advantage of the express pay in the app. I assume a lot of folks don't know it exists or how to use it as the lines are usually long. The express pay in the app allows you to scan your items and pay on your phone without getting in a line to checkout. I actually wish all retailers would adopt this feature. Overall, I plan on continuing to shop with BJs. I will also continue to be an early morning shopper to avoid the crowds. read more

I was irritated both at the number of people working there who approached me to sell me on things I didn't need as well as the odd sight of a deputy sheriff stationed at the exit, making me wonder what's going on here. I came to this location 11-24-25 to get some beef ribs for thanksgiving . When we arrived it wasn't packed, the lines were short!, soon as we finished becausewe got other stuff the lines were down the Aisles. I was having trouble and a self check out associate TAI was so helpful and nice with my severe vision impairment a lot of ppl get frustrated but Tai she stayed by my side , even showed me an easier way on the app, and a better way to do coupons, whatever I missed clipping she'd fix it. The other lady acted like I was a bother but Tai truly made me feel like a normal person . She was so patient start to finish! The world needs ppl like her!. Stopped here to get some gas. Long lines but worth the wait....premium was $3.73/gallon whereas most places around were in the $4+ range. The gas station is a bit off to the side from the main store and both are less than a mile from the highway, so easy to get on / off. There are 12 gas pumps. read more

BJs please have all of your gas pumps working. Every time I come here at least 4-5 pumps have orange cones in front of them causing major delays. My recent letter to BJ's customer service: I'm writing you this email to have for two requests. Please explain. Please explain the reason for ordering online groceries only to arrive and have to do the shopping yourself. After placing my large order (5 hours before pickup time) I arrived only to see that three items were just in the cart. When I questioned the issue I was told that "if it's on the list and is canceled we just don't have it." I decided to look a little bit further and in 5 minutes I was able to find everything on my list in abundance. I express paid those items. And when I informed the team about all of my items actually being there I was met with the most deploringly honest answer of "I just didn't want to do it." Wow?! Is this where we are as an at a society? I love your express pay option; it is a godsend. However, please explain the extra harassment at the exit. I was loudly accused of stealing when I just couldn't get my Wi-Fi to show my barcode. The person who was running that was nothing short of unprofessional, not knowledgeable, and just downright disrespectful. It's one thing to be rude, but when the person does nothing to you and is overly kind; it's just not necessary. Granted, I do not know nor do I want to know the private struggles that people deal with but in a customer service environment I just ask that you be human. One should not have to be dressed in designer clothes in order to be treated with respect. My second request: do better. I can go into some big tirade about how prices are high and we just want to be treated better but what's the point? I just don't see your business in that area being as exuberant as it could. Unfortunately this is not the first time I've had an issue with this location almost to the point where I literally drive up to 30 miles out of my way (Crofton, Waldorf, Annapolis, Alexandria) so I don't have to patronize this location, but I may have to go back to doing that. I came in after a long day to return 2 items. I went straight to the customer service desk and there was no one in line and one representative present. The representative was in the middle of doing something on the computer. When I got there, the representative did not immediately acknowledge me even though I was the only one at the counter. Which was fine. He was busy and the only one there. So I waited a little. After some time, the representative asked me what I needed and I replied I needed to return some items and I proceeded to take the items out of my bag along with the receipt. I placed items and receipt on the table thinking the representative was ready to attend to my return. While I did this, the representative went back to whatever he was doing on the computer and gestured to me to provide him my bjs card. I gave my Bjs One Plus credit card to him and the representative threw it on the counter of the next register with my name and card number visible to whoever walked by and then proceeded to return to the activity he was initially doing. I was so tired and I did not want any drama. Being the nonconfrontational person that I am, I moved my items and receipt to the next counter thinking he was also going to move to the next counter as well, but instead he took his time and had me wait longer while my card laid there. After some time, the representative eventually moved over to the next counter where I was and completed the return which took less than a minute. I go to Bjs every week for groceries and there are some very nice representatives that work there. However, this is not the first time that I or my family members have come across poor customer service at the service desk at this location and it is quite unnecessary. I understand that people have bad days, but this is unacceptable. Please do better. From now on, I will be patronizing and spending my money at the Waldorf location which is a lot further away from me than this location for the remainder of my subscription and will switch to Costco and/or Sam's Club where they provide much better service. read more

Yesterday- (4/29/23) Tire center hours stated on line and on door 9:00-8:00, not one soul present at 6:00..ghost town. I had to update, and her is why. With said Rona all up and through, I have been taking advantage of the order ahead and what they call le curbside pick-up. This location is thee bomb dot com when it comes to curbside. The times that I have ordered, my items have been ready BEFORE they were scheduled and the actual pick up process was seamless. The person that brought my items to the care was nice, and helpful. Inside, at the help desk, they still get a wee bit distracted, but it appears as though they are trying to have a good time during a bad time. Who can blame them, honestly? I had to go inside to use my coupon recently, and I must admit, they did a nice job with the check out lines and with social distancing. There was a dedicated person directing everyone, and despite the line being in the back of the warehouse, it moved fairly quickly. Also, they tried to have some order within the warehouse- one major aisle goes one direction and the other in the opposite. There is one door for entry and the other is dedicated to leave. I believe all of the carts are outside, and there is a sanitizing stating as soon as you walk inside. I just can't go back to this store. I was told at the cashier that my membership was expired, I went to costumer service to see what was going on. The guy at the costumer service told me my card wasn't expired. I went back and forth from check out to costumer service 4 times with the same issue, before everything got straight. I didn't understand why the costumer service person didn't communicate to the cashier about my membership instead of having me walk back and forth. So she goes on to ask me about my electric company and bill. I told her I have no interest in changing companies and also she should have presented the convo as have you received the gift card from BJ's for the electricity promotion. So she goes on to say you don't have to change and asks me further about my bill. Now I'm over at the butter and she goes on talking about this company. I pulled my mask down smiling and told her I'm trying to be polite as possible, because at this point how many more ways can I tell you I'm not interested. She then pulls her mask down and says I don't have to be polite just say you aren't interested and kind of storms off. I could have kicked her smooth up her butt as she walked away. She was irritating as hell. I hope nobody comes up to me again when I'm there unless they want me to try some food. I went to this location yesterday and got 7 items. When I got in line, everyone was forced to use self checkout as the were no cashiers on the regular lines. I usually am able to scan my mobile card on the BJs app at self check out but for some reason I couldn't and so like everyone else I had to press the button for assistance. Now irritated because there are like 8 self checkout lines and the only two ladies are helping the elderly people scan items (not an issue). My issue was THEY REMOVED ALL THE HAND HELD SCANNERS FROM SELF CHECKOUT. This is why the machine would not read my mobile app card. So I had to wait for one of them to finish with the people they were ringing up items to come and place the scanner on the doc where I was then I was able to scan my card. Now after I scanned something I have to place it on the sensor thing or you can't scan the next item. An extra step that would be avoided it I could use the hand held scanner. Everyone was complaining and asking for a scanner. Her response was well if people stop stealing and not scanning every item y'all would have scanners. This man said we'll get rid of self checkout and y'all get back on the register. I agree because it doesn't make sense for us to be working like this. The bakery almost ruined my son's going away party. I went in on a Tuesday to put in the order for a cake and two sets of cupcakes. I needed it ready for pickup on Sunday by 12 PM. Something in my spirit told me they were going to get it wrong. They didn't have the correct order forms out, so they had me write my order on the back. One of the associates came by and said that she was going to make copies, which she did. The girl transferred my order to the new form. We went through it together. She even attached the copy to the new order form. All good, right? Wrong. I sent my son to pick up the cake and cupcakes on Sunday - and of course, no order. The lady told him and his friend that there was no order because the young lady put it in for Wednesday. I don't know if it was her fault or the person responsible for putting my order together. Either way, I know none of those forms had Wednesday's date on it. They ended up putting something together real quick, but it wasn't exactly what I asked for. It was half vanilla and half chocolate, even though I wanted the cake all vanilla. The picture didn't seem to cover the cake, but maybe they made room for the writing. I would've given them three or four stars, because it turned out okay, but I've had issues with this store before. Once I had to ask the manager to move his clipboard off the Ice drinks so I could get a box and he acted like I was disturbing him. BJ's is a clean store and the staff is friendly for the most part I have only experienced a few negative problems and that was the grapes and because they order the grapes from Mexico they have to warn customers that these grapes may have spiders I encountered a black widow when I purchased some green grapes and although I clean them thoroughly the spider was hiding inside of one of the large green stalks I expressed my concerns to the manager because I have a special needs child who would not have known better and may have eaten it or God for bid gotten big and because they are poisonous this is something customers should be warned and aware of the manager was not very nice they were very smart Alec type trying to belittle me for not properly cleaning my grapes to which I did put them in their place and tell them that as a store they should be more concerned with their customers safety and not trying to be a smart Alex when they can express a concern I did contact the general manager and simply explain to them customers should be warned about these things and to which he said is not their problem I do continue to go to BJ's because I will finish my membership out but I will not purchase grapes from them ever again One last thing I did purchase a cake for my daughters graduation which was frozen , unknown to me and by the time we cut the cake the frosting was melted falling off and that was a little disappointing read more

"I Have a Yelp and I'm not Afraid to Use it" Disclaimer: Let me start by saying that the catering dropped this to 1 star. If it were just for the store, it would have been a 3. I live by myself and buy lunch almost ever day at work, so I probably have no business having a BJ's card. However, I saw a deal on Living Social for $35 for a membership (normally $50), a $25 gift card, and used a $5 promotion. So, my membership was 5 bucks, which is worth it for the gas alone. I do have a lot of storage in my house, so I buy in bulk when it makes sense. I was very excited to try this place out and start food prepping my lunch for the week. So why the 1 star? I needed to cater something at my church for about 50 folks. I placed an order, in person, on Thursday night to be picked up Sunday morning at 9:00am. BJ's requires 24 hours notice for catering, so they had plenty of time. I get a call on Sunday at 8:49am from an unknown 301 number. It's BJs...not calling not to tell me my order is ready, but that someone called out and my order wouldn't be ready until 10:30. I really didn't have much of a choice, so I said "fine." Thank God I wasn't already on the road when they called me only 11 minutes before it was supposed to be ready. I was actually just about to leave the house. I get to BJs deli at 10:30 and I'm told that it won't be ready for yet another 30 minutes. So now, I have already missed Sunday School at 9:30 and now I am missing service as well at 11:00. Anyone who knows [the new] me knows that I don't like missing church! I finally get my order at 11:00. I did not complain at all because I wanted to give them an opportunity to make amends. Unfortunately, I was not offered any type of consolation for the poor service; not even a passionate apology. Technically, my order should have been free since the agreement was to have it at 9:00am. Imagine if I actually had an event where I needed it at 9am, I would have been screwed. A $25 gift card or something would have been nice, without me having to ask for it. If I ran a place, I would hand out $25 gift cards like hot cakes if we screwed up. When I got this BJs membership, I was so excited to use it and give this place 5 stars, but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. For the actual store, the prices were OK, but not great. As soon as I fall in love with an item they pull it. Still waiting on my medium shrimp to return. Been 2 years. Bathrooms are at the front. So take care of that on your way in. Rarely ome here and not have to wait in a line. So I limit my purchases to 1 to 5 items so I can stick with the express lanes. 3 stars because with that many check out lanes, no one should have to wait behind 5 other shoppers. Stock the shelves with the items that came off the truck so I don't have to pull someone to assist. Huge issue. Hire folks that want to be of service. Train them to serve at a high level and teach then how to be proactive. No employee should pass an wide open refrigerator door. Really dude? You just gonna walk right pass and around tjat open door. My husband and I went to BJ's tire department on January 15th, 2024, to purchase tires. We went to the store because I could not get anyone to answer the phone on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It was a frustrating time for me. I was put on hold until the line just dropped, nothing a dead phone line. Once, a lady answered and said let me go there (the tire dept) and find out why no one is answering the phone, and she never came back. I called back and requested to speak to a store manager; I was told Mr. Kevin was on duty at this time, but he has yet to answer after holding on for 19 minutes, and the phone cut off. I'm still on hold with the tire department while writing this review. Whenever I get through, I will request a full refund; forget the tires. This is some BULL. I refuse to be treated like this after spending $587.00. I'll go somewhere else. If I could give them a BIG 0, I would have. Update: There is still no answer from the manager's line or the tire dept. Somehow the lines are always long and there are never enough registers open. Customer service has its own challenges and I do my best to avoid having to deal with it. The folks that work at the store are all nice enough and professionally friendly, and the store is well organized, and kept clean and tidy. The prices are reasonable, and the selections are acceptable, so I keep going back. This location desperately needs the self-checkout option that is found in other locations of this chain. I've reviewed this store before, so apparently they updated existence in Yelp so they could get rid of older reviews (I've been shopping here since the store opened several years ago). My opinion hasn't changed, this store needs to make it more pleasant (by that I mean faster) to get your goods and go. The goal of any retail is to get you in, get you what you need, get you to spend extra on the impulse buys, and get you out quickly so they can get more people in the store and repeat the cycle over and over again. I called customer service just now, and whomever the women was that picked up the phone at 2:05pm on Aug 1, 2020 was probably the worst customer service person I've dealt with in my life. While inquiring if returns were once again accepted (since this location stopped accepting exchanges and returns at the start of the pandemic), she told me I was "lying" to her and that never happened. While trying to explain the situation, and saying that I'm sorry I wasn't trying to be difficult, she responded "you are sorry. You must be smart, why didn't you get a name for who told you returns weren't accepted." After asking once more if I could come in to exchange something, she huffed and puffed and then hung up on me. The lines are outrageous because they only have 2 cashiers open for customers with more than 15 items. It's completely ridiculous considering it is a bulk food warehouse. They had 6 self checkouts that only took 15 items or less. The 1 Star is for the cashier Royce others zero stars is what is deserved. He was super fantastic and such a gentleman. The store itself is ok besides the fact that the lines are long most of the time. They should definitely train more employees to operate registers during busier times. Other than that I've actually never had a bad experience with my shopping. The coupons come in handy, the meats are fairly priced and the employees are typically friendly and willing to help when asked. My issue is with the bakery at this store. Two years in a row I've had problems with birthday cake orders from them. Last year I ordered a cake and upon going in to pick it up was told that it had not been made. This year I ordered my daughter's birthday cake only to get to her party, sing happy birthday, cut it and realize that the cake was the wrong flavor. Of course they forgot to put the descriptive barcode sticker on it which meant that 1. There was no way to tell what flavor the cake was prior to leaving; and 2. I had to stand at the register an extra 5 minutes while the cashier asked around trying to find the code to ring up the cake. It's sad that they can't get this right. There's really no way to justify this and management isn't much help. I agree with other reviewers that they don't go out of their way to remedy these situations and make customers feel as if they actually care. All that being said, after 2 years of disappointment I've learned my lesson and I won't be ordering any more cakes from this store. I will continue to buy the gas as well as groceries and household essentials from time to time but I am DONE with the bakery. read more
