Picked one of the 'cards' you take to check out, and then took the receipt to customer service so they can get the item from the locked area. Except there aren't any in the locked area. After comparing the unit price of several items against similar items at Walmart, Target and other discount stores, the regular price at BJ's is still a very good deal. Today I went to BJ's, and there was one employee who gave me only one coupon even though I bought two large packs of paper towels. Her attitude was also very unpleasant. Last time I came, there was a young girl who was like an angel--she didn't even wait for me to ask and helped me find six coupons for food wraps on her own. I'm also a business owner, and I always spend a lot when I shop here. But with that kind of rude attitude, it really makes me not want to buy as much anymore. The management should really train employees better--after all, customers are bringing money to your business. I honestly hope Costco opens a store here soon! read more

BJ's Wholesale Club in Coventry is easily accessible off the I-95 so I usually stop by on my trips from NY to Rhode Island or vice versa. The gas station is connected to the wholesale club which makes it convenient. Usually, there are no lines or only a few minute queue to get gas. The aisles and the store is very organized. When I came on a Friday afternoon, there were no staff at the registers and had to use the self-checkout registers. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is one of the places nearby so if you are hungry, there are plenty of options. read more

You should never need to wait in a line of several carts to exit the store while one person at the door meticulously and slowly counts every item in your cart; particularly if you didn't even use self checkout. They are typically much faster than this and don't go through every item individually. Treating everyone like thieves and a line to leave after you have paid. On top of that they have self checkout for up to 20 items and a single register open with many people waiting for those with more than 20. read more

Store is set up similar to all the other BJs so it makes things easy to find when you go to a store that is not your normal one. We were looking for a particular couch that we saw at our BJ store but all they had was the display model. With Covid and all we were not comfortable buying the floor model. So the customer service rep checked other stores in the area. Found that this BJs had 2, the floor model and one in a box. In hindsight we should have worked with our store rep to purchase the couch, but being independent we decided to go home and consider our options since the store was a good 45 minute drive from us. We called the store to verify they had the item in a box and verified the price. Unfortunately they said that they could not hold the item for us. We offered to pay in advance but their manager would not accommodate us. Understand that we would be driving to the neighboring state in hopes no one bought the item in the time they checked on it and the time we arrived. Disappointed to say the least on their unwillingness to help. So..... we got in the car and hightailed it up the interstate in hopes they would still have it. Lucky for us, it was in stock still. But there were two different prices noted for the same item. Took some photos of the prices then went to check out. We did get it at the sale price so we were happy in that respect. Getting it home is a whole other story! As it did not completely fit in the SUV we had and it took some manipulation of how to put it into the back. Would have been easier if it was light, but everyone knows that couches are heavy and hard to grab. We are loyal BJ customers so we will continue to go to our store, but this one out of our state just disappointed us and put us through some unneeded aggravation. Bakery department is a joke. Went there at 12:45 pm on March 21 for a picture cake order to be picked up the morning of March 31. Info was taken down and was told I was all set, and when I went to pick up the cake today they "did not have any order". Put a big damper on a retirement party. Also was told when I placed the order that they opened at 8, but that's only for the elderly, for most they open at 9. read more

Many prices in the Coventry location are more expensive than in local grocery stores. Especially beef. The customer service team in front is rude, sarcastic, and unhelpful. A customer may feel like the staff is doing us a favor if we need help with self check out. The customer is paying for membership here. At least treat us with some respect. Usually, in my many years of experience, This type of behavior stems from poor management. This review does not cover all the employees in the store. Needed bread and cheese on the week my wallet was stolen. I went in reported to the customer service my wallet was stolen and I needed a replacement card. Come to find out my membership expired 19 days ago. She asked if I wanted to renew my membership and I explained that I couldn't renew as my wallet was stolen, I only had limited cash for the time being and the only thing recouped was my license and cancelled cards from the theft. Without hesitation she told me to go pick up my bread and cheese and come back to her at the desk. After saying don't worry about it, she persistently told me to go grab my items. I cannot thank this woman enough. Walmart was only two seconds away and the kindness and persistence after such a horrible week, she restored my faith in humanity. Awful parking for curbside pickup Need more spots or move the curbside area down the row and had more spaces ! Couldn't even get in a space and had to keep circling Also- when at self checkout it's awful and slow to react to purchases so I have to keep taking things off the belt and running them through , I get so aggravated I wait for a real person then they only have 2 cashiers So I use the curbside pickup and wait over 15 minutes !! BJ's corporate management should be ashamed of themselves. They are so out of touch with their employees. After 9 years of back breaking work my 69 year old mother decided to leave. Not a single person including the HR lead had any idea it was her last day, even after she gave them a 3 week notice. Not a single person cared enough that she dedicated 9 years of her life to making the crap food that their customers bought. Not that she was expecting a party, but at the very least some acknowledgement from someone, anyone would have been at least more decent then nothing. She told me with a tear in her eye and I'm quite frankly not surprised. Most stories she told me over the years were of the lack of personal care for the people that keep the company running. My go to place for all my bulky needs. While I go to the Johnston, RI BJ's that's close to my work place and more convenient if I need to pick up a giant roll of toilet paper or paper towels. However, this club appears to be bigger and is expanding based on the amount of construction going around in the club at the time of this writing. A big one-up that this place has over the other BJ's is the gas they offer here which arguably is the cheapest I can find usually in all of RI. Plus a full auto shop and inside a plaza with a Home Depot and a Walmart. You can expect to get all your shopping done here and the other places for your one or two small items that you need. Definitely a one stop shop and easy to get to as it's right off I-95. Oh and on some days like the summer there's a Del's truck that's right across the street from BJ's if you have the burning need for some of that frozen goodness! read more

The deli here is problematic. The couple times I've been in there the older male employee working the counter, Amador, has had a surly and stand-offish attitude without my having done anything to provoke it (except be nice?). I didn't ask for extra salt, figuratively speaking. I've also witnessed him yelling at another employee in front of guests over something trivial--behavior which is very unbecoming to him and the store. This is why you hire based on personality and qualifications, not to fill some politically correct quota. Other than that, I've had no problems with the other employees who are always prompt, curteous, and professional. I also like the quality and selection of food at this location. If I could leave no stars that's what I would do. When my family and I were trying to check out we were extremely disrespected by an employ. When we tried to express our concern she replied with "whatever" and walked away from us. She continued to make comments at us as she walked away. We decided to leave everything we were going to buy and made the decision that we will not be shopping at BJ's anymore. I used to think that only a select clientele came here when I was younger and would go with a friend. The people aren't any better than the people that go to any other stores you don't have to pay a fee to buy from. Whatever. I was young dumb and you know the story. This store isn't good with stocking. You can't depend on it having what it is suppose to carry. I find the store in Middletown much better with a more extensive selection than this store. I assume because this store is in the Devil's Triangle of Consumer Evil, i.e. Centre of New England Boulevard, that it has way too many consumers buying them out of their goods. (Any place, store or whatever that pretentiously spells words with a foreign spelling to make it look like it is better than it is is guilty of trying to use it's own name to use as a selling point or as an attraction device and should be fined everyday for the sake of demonstrating how pompous and unnecessary this practice is. I digress.) Middletown doesn't have the gas pumps though and is on Aquidneck Island. Who wants to spend toll money to go to a store you have to pay money to shop at? No sense I say. The "bargains" are not always bargains so shop smart. Every now and then they have "specials sails" where everyone crowds around to get something free like a flashlight for listening to some sales spiel for a product that really no one needs. Their deli department has the same quality cold cuts as the major supermarkets, but for 25% less. Store is clean and well stocked. Good parking. Went to BJ's , Center of New England , Coventry RI, to purchase a patio set today , checked on line to be sure they had them in stock! got there paid for it , then they tell us " it is up on a top deck in the warehouse and no one here can drive a fork lift to bring it down, you will have to come back to pick it up" What??? no one at the wholesale warehouse club can drive a fork lift? you cant be serious, well yes they were, I talked to the manager on duty who said, " they don't schedule anyone who drives a forklift Monday thru Wednesday because they usually don't have to move anything" again.. WHAT??? But they had no problem taking our money, so when i tell them that this is a huge problem, i had to have a family member with a truck meet me and i have other obligations , this was the only night i am free to pick it up, They looked at me like i just asked them to give me a kidney! so again they say " you can just come back tomorrow" well if i wasn't working, or didn't have to have help picking it up , maybe i could! so consider yourself warned Monday thru Wednesday if you need something and it nor right there in front of you , they might not be able to help you . I am so disappointed , why would anyone think that a warehouse club would deliberately NOT staff their store " because we usually don't have to move anything" Now I have to call the manager again tomorrow make sure the item gets brought down from the top deck and make all new arrangements , BJ's will you compensate me for your understaffing? read more

I love going to BJs to get stocked up. Meat, laundry soap, storage bags, school snacks, and drinks are my picks when I visit. Also, the gas prices are incredible! The store is clean and fully stocked. My only negative is some of the sample people are a little too pushy. read more
