I am a big fan of this BJ's. Used to frequent the one in Fair Lakes and felt that their gas lines and parking were often disappointing. Parking at BJ's Gainesville is ample, and the spots feel slightly larger. I rarely wait for even one car while getting gas... and if this review changes that, I may have to delete it! They have a good selection, which is very much on par with Costco. I have both and often see the same things on sale - sometimes BJ's saves an extra dollar, sometimes Costco. While Costco may have some specific items that BJ's does not, I rarely wait longer than 2 minutes to check out at BJ's and find the entire shopping experience much calmer. read more

I was there for a pick up and although they were short staffed, there was one man who went above and beyond trying to get everyone their orders as quickly as possible despite being the only one there to help. Enrique was moving fast, physically running at times in order to get customers their orders. It is rare to find young people who work this hard under stress. BJ's recently opened a location over in Virginia Gateway in Gainesville, VA. I received an invitation in the mail for a two month trial membership - so I went in to check it out. I had the option of signing up for a year beyond the 2 month trial membership for $40.00. If I waited for the 2 month trial membership to expire and then make a decision on membership - at that point the price would be $50.00 for a year. So I went ahead and signed up for the year - which means I have 14 months for $40.00. Because the place is so new, the place looks nice and clean. I went and stocked up on things like bottled water, dishwasher detergent, and dishwasher drying agent. The one thing I will ding them on is their Membership Services area seemed a little disorganized. There were five people behind the counter and seemed like they were not well versed in the process for signing up people. There were only five people in front of me - and it took approx. 15 minutes for the five BJ's employees to process the five customers in front of me. read more

I showed an image of some pretty 3 colored tone roses and spoke to the baker, a little hesitant at first due to her workload but she agreed to it and it came out beautifully! So many compliments and people shocked this was a BJs cake. They thought it was a private bakery shop. So happy. Just brought in another order to pick up today, I am sure that too will be amazing! This BJ's is pretty good. It's new, clean and doesn't get too crowded even at its peak times. The only downside is that it is scaled down in comparison to other BJ's I have been to. As far as I can tell, it's that they don't sell clothes. Not a big deal as I don't really shop at BJ's for clothes. Seriously thinking about not renewing my membership, cashiers and customer service are horrible and rude, which is a shame because people at the door are awesome, bakery ladies are awesome and deli is awesome. tried asking customer service to talk to cashiers about ringing up your items randomly while there in the cart instead of putting them on the belt which insures more accurate ringing up and they told me to take care of it and tell the cashier not to. Cashier got an attitude with me and now I'm the b word. Several times I've had to go back to customer service to pay for the second milk I got because they only rang one up or they scan something twice and I don't catch until I get home. Also what is going on with their bananas? I bought on Saturday, it's Thursday and there still not ripe but they have brown freckles all over!! read more

It's important to note that this is a "boutique" store with a very small footprint. So, they don't have the same large inventory of it's sister stores in Fairfax and Woodbridge. For example, there is no clothing dept., freshly prepared entrees section or gas station to name a few. However, on a positive note, the store is clean and doesn't have that hectic club store vibe. Bj's does offer entrees including Pot Roast, Chicken Marsala, but they are heavily processed. This is a deal breaker for me. I prefer a selection of freshly prepared foods when I don't want to do the fast food drive-through or sit down restaurant circuit. read more

I went in today to take advantage of a friends and family free 60 day membership. NOT worth it and so humiliated! The customer service person tried and tried and tried to SELL me a membership. I explained to her at least five or six times I had NO money or credit card to pay for a membership (or income for that matter) and had to explain my situation and she still did NOT get it! And STILL INSISTED I should buy a membership (with money or credit I don't have) or take a free day pass to look around and then decide. I just wanted to leave! I've never been so humiliated in my life! AND the with the "free" membership you still pay regular prices and can't use coupons, what's the point!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Teach your staff to respond when there are customer issues and particularly don't make the customer feel as if its a bother to deal with them. Quite often, I'll find coupons for something that isn't in the store. On the flip side, their gas prices are pretty good.

Another option to Costco in Manassas. Brand new store that is just been build and it looks like there will be a lot more around this area The store is very clean with very helpful staff when I was there at Christmas time trying to find a certain wine cooler. They called around their other stores and was able to save me on in Arlington. Samples are available in the store between 10:30-4:30 most days which is nice if you are looking for something a little different. In all a very nice store. read more

Getting here is a bit much I must admit, so I'll most likely just go to the one in Fairfax. I came late at night on a weekend, so it was nice and empty. It was clean, well organized, and the parking lot had plenty of spaces. The fresh produce is in the back middle aisle of the store which was odd to me, in Fairfax it's in the back corner. The bananas were ALL very green, but they had a nut selection like I've never seen at another BJ's. I was truly impressed. It's located in a shopping center, so you can get your groceries and do other shopping in the same area. It's a very nice area, I wouldn't mind exploring it more. read more

I posted this on corporates page, because i know our local club won't do or say anything. Our club card expires this month and we won't be renewing it. The employees at your Gainesville store are aholes..... to put it nicely. No smiles, never around to help, argue with you about prices. It's not my fault they tag and label things wrong. Yesterday I was basically called a liar. Watermelon were clearly labeled $2.99, so we pick one up and head to check out. It rings up $5.49, we told the lady they are between the milk in a box clearly labeled. She comes back after 5 minutes...... which was seriously 2 aisles away, saying there's no label. So you decided to remove the label because its marked wrong to tell me I'm an idiot. You have lost our business after June 30th. We moved here 4 years ago and were so happy there was more than Costco. Well we will be traveling to Sam's in Sterling from now on. I tell their corporate all the time they need a Sam's in our area. We have never been happy with this location, and this just finished the deal. She bold faced lied to me and acted like I had no idea what I was talking about. I will be going back in to get her name. I got a fruit ninja for 50$ and I've loved the deals here ever since. I do have a Costco membership as well but living so close I usually end up going to bj's. The employees are usually very nice and if you forget to use a coupon they will give you your money back with no problem. read more

This place is just ok. I've always felt that Costco (and Sam's) cater more to businesses and BJ's caters more to individuals and families. People love how BJ's takes coupons, accepts all major credit cards, sells product sizes that tend to be smaller than Costco and Sam's, and has extended hours, but this comes with a price. Case in point: one thing that I go through a lot of is soda, but I will never buy it here. Chances are either the Target or Giant across the street has a sale going on with a better price, not to mention a better selection of flavors. One nice thing about this store is that it's never crowded, and that includes the gas station. I work all over the area, and I have never seen a line at the gas station here, which can't be said for the Fair Lakes and Woodbridge locations (or ANY Costco). Admittingly, if this had better access from 29/66 maybe that would be different. read more

The employees are too scared or don't care to enforce their mask policy. Went in today to shop and over 6 customers flat out refused to wear & over 20 were ratlickers (uhhh btw, you can have your groceries delivered to you you entitled, insert your favorite bad word here) with their nose sticking out. Bj's is either complicit & don't care if their members (or employees ) who willingly give their money to this business get sick, pass covid on to others or just flat out die, bc hey who cares about you, the little person, someone will take your place and happily give Bj's their money so their business survives & not you or they believe this is all a hoax. Life is hard enough without worrying about each errand I run possibly being my last. What if these people who aren't wearing masks are doing this on purpose to start something? What if I say something and they pull out a gun & shoot me. Not worth the risk. Besides, isn't BJ's private property? Can't BJ's call the police to escort these people out for not following their mask rules? Are the managers too scared? Sad. Why are they in management? Not going back until they grow a pair. This rating is for corporate BJ's that created the two-hour delivery. I signed up to get the two-hour delivery by paying $50 for 12 deliveries. I received zero notifications on the status of the $250 order. Four hours later I call the Gainesville location and they told me it was probably a door dash issue and they do not handle anything dealing with the two-hour delay. No message on the website ordering mentioned a third-party delivery--I thought it would be the same BJ's staff that does the free pickup (always awesome). So 30 minutes later after being disconnected I got my refund but no explanation on what happened. So lesson learned, do the pickup service but not the two-hour delivery. I asked if they could switch my order to in-store pickup to save my time but of course, they could not. I have always had great experiences with the employees at Gainesville but this was a terrible experience. read more

Customer Service is terrible. The staff can see you need help but don't offer any. The food court registers were down and customers were redirected to customer service to pay for food yet there was only one guy at the customer service desk. I joined this BJ's within a week of it opening. It's literally a mile away from my house so it is very convenient, and since the gas station opened it had been the only place we gas up our cars. The store is always clean, well lit, and prices are pretty cheap. Especially since they have a great store coupon books and flyers at the store. The new thing is they will take up to 5 manufactures coupons, one for each item in the set. Example, the dove body wash set has 3 body washes in it, so if you have 3 individual manufactures coupons for dove then you can use all 3 plus any store coupon you may have. What an awesome deal!!! Now there are a few things that I really wish they could improve about the store. I hate seeing a great deal on clothes in their coupon section when there is no clothing section! Also, if you buy produce stay away from the 5-10 pound bagged up items. More than once they have gone bad within a week of getting them home, but that has also happened to me at Costco. Must be something about the "in-bulk" produce. Now, one of the frustrating things is a couple members of the staff need to be retrained on how to bag certain items and basic customer service. Like today for example, I had an overflowing cart and only 2 self check outs were open and one young lady who had her light off. I started to ask if she could please check us out and she interrupted me, rolled her eyes and said, "yeah, sure. I'll take you." Sorry to be a pain in your neck, hon. I then gave her my bags and asked if she could please bag everything except for the items that are huge. She only bagged 2 bags worth out of 6 total bags (the remaining 4 I had to fill myself before we took them out to the car), and when I got home I discovered my smashed muffins because for some reason she put a 8 pack of heavy soup cans on top. The final straw was the yelling for a male team member the entire time because he needed to make the 15 minutes until closing announcement. Now, this one time was an exception. I usually get awesome service from the greeters to the managers. So please don't let this dissuade you all from shopping there. Most of the time all of the staff members are very helpful and there is even one greeter who remembers me every time and greets me by my name (which I think that is awesome since he must see a ton of people a day!) read more

When today to Bj and pick up two full chickens and they both smelled really bad, I thought it was just the bag but even the staff didn't wanted to touch them the quality and customer service was just not pleasant they didn't even offer me hand sanitizer and even the manager didn't apologize and o also saw two more chicken in the back and highly doubt they removed them. This BJs is smaller than Fairfax, but i can still get what i need. It is not crowded unlike costco (i'm a member of both). I LOVE that they have coupons and you can combine a BJs coupon with a manufacturer coupon for even more savings! The customer service is great. I love this BJs! read more

I have been a member of BJ's Wholesale Club for over a year now. I joined because they were building the BJ's in Gainesville. The Gainesville location is easy in and easy out with a great parking. I find it faster for me to run into BJ's than for me to run into Giant. A big plus is that the lines are almost always non-existent, which was an issue for me at Costco. The Gainesville store doesn't have the clothing and books section like the other BJ's, which is kind of a bummer, and the produce is okay, but not great. Otherwise, the deli counter is great, and everything else is as expected. I'd recommend BJ's if your looking for a wholesale club. read more

I really like this club. I have been to a few different ones and I always continue to return to this one. It's never over crowded, even on a Saturday when all other wholesale clubs are. The gas lines are never out of control such as the one in Woodbridge,VA. The selection is always good, and the cashiers always ask if I have coupons which I like. You are able to combine coupons here at the club which is great, and can be done in any BJ's location. Cashiers at this particular club any responses better than most of the others I've been to. The only thing keeping me from giving this club 5 stars is the membership services area. The girls here were never too friendly, and seem sort of confused. Other than that I highly recommend this club and will continue to make this my primary shopping location. read more

I've been a BJ's member for over 20 years initially in upstate New York then after moving here, started shopping at the store in Fairfax. I live in Gainesville and was thrilled to hear that there was a BJ's opening here. Well to make a long story short I hate this store. I still travel to Fair Lakes to shop at that one. The Gainesville store is small, everything that I look for is missing. I could count easily over five items that I still need to travel to Fairfax to purchase. There also are no Greeting cards, no clothing, limited selection of wines and cordials, limited selection of everything. I quit the Costcos rewards membership when it was time to renew my membership thinking I would not travel to Costcos as much but that was a big mistake because I seldom shop at the B.J's in Gainesville. I cant count the number of times I had to return produce from there because it was rotten. I heard that thie size of the store is the results of the planning board for that shopping district only giving them a limited amount of Square feet to use to build this store. That was foolish and a grave mistake in my opinion. If your new to BJ's do yourself a favor and check out the store in Fair Lakes. read more
