My boyfriend and I went in to look at engagement rings and the lady working could not have been more annoyed. She was disinterested in helping us or interacting with us. She was sure to point out that online sizes were different than in store sizes. Every comment she made regarding metal, diamonds and settings was condescending. We were really hoping to have a good experience, learn and support a local business. Not only was her attitude a pure turn off, but the store lacks selection in jewelry overall. Very cordial staff at this small jewelry storefront in downtown Naperville. I've received a couple nice gifts purchased from them over the years and return regularly to see what's new. They do wish lists. It's a traditional jeweler with lots of diamonds and white/yellow gold, nothing too casual or outrageous. My spouse is currently sporting a wedding band that he dubs his "biker ring" - not too comfy - so I'm thinking of replacing it soon with a band he tried on today at this store. I came into this store with a custom ring design idea, and the crusty old hag behind the counter acted as if she could not be bothered with entertaining a lowly prole. I had to quickly pull out my phone to check my GPS. I was in fact still in Naperville, but she seemed to think her store was in Beverly Hills. Her condescending and vague responses made it painfully obvious that my potential business was not a concern. This woman was the type of detestable individual that Hannibal Lecter would cannibalize in the name of performing a public service. I had just come from Perle Jewelers down the street and they were very accommodating, and happy to share their expertise. Pearle ended up receiving my business and I was very satisfied all-around! Well, we were back again to BK Jewelry to make another purchase yesterday. Many thanks to Betty for her great knowledge and genuinely warm high touch service. They have been around forever and we have made multiple purchases over the years. My wife receives unsolicited comments on her jewelry from them. This time we bought the beautiful tanzanite ring in the photo. Stop by and visit this quaint shop and you will find that they really have a broad range of quality designs and even current trends with some very unique pieces from around the world. They also do custom work and design as well. I noticed too few reviews of jewelers on Yelp. Most people have more confidence with word of mouth and referral from friends. I do very few reviews and want them all to matter. I felt it was important especially for those seeking help that I share information on this great jeweler. Some time back my wife lost her wedding ring and was quite distraught. We worked out the insurance stuff and went shopping. She wanted something different now. We literally went to every jeweler within 20 miles. Many limited in design and quality but premium prices for brand name versus quality pieces. It was just the opposite at BK. We found the focus was on quality and uniqueness and little to no regard for brand name per se. Don't be fooled with the hyped up price tags of hearts on fire at other jewelers. Instead go to BK and seek out a consultative shopping experience for high quality and peace of mind in a secure investment. Went shopping for diamonds and stumbled into BK. They say the have been around for many years, but I was not familiar with them. They showed me some stones that they had, and although the ones in stock were not what I wanted, I was very impressed with the process they went through. First, they would need to order in some stones to my liking, which is what most jewelers would need to do. But second, knowing that the stones they had in stock were not to my liking, they inspected each stone and then provided me with the loupe and pointed out exactly where to look for the problem areas. I visited BK Jewelry to get an appraisal on my engagement ring. Betty, the owner, assisted me and was very cordial and helpful. She examined my ring and had a professional appraisal ready for me in half an hour. While I was there I also browsed for some diamond earrings. Betty pointed out several different selections and was able to find something that was in my price range. She also helped me select some nice pearl earrings. These are wish lists items that I would like my husband to buy me, and Betty filled out a card to keep on file for him and gave me a card as well. I found the service to be very friendly and much more personal than I've received at any of the mall jewelry stores. The store also has a lovely selection of earrings. I would pick zero stars, but that is not an option. I had high hopes for this store until just before we walked out. My boyfriend and I are just starting to look at engagement rings. We are just shopping around right now to see what designs we like and what kind of price range they fall into. I had found several rings online by a particular designer (Barkev) that this store was supposed to carry. Granted they did carry a few rings by this designer, but they were very plain and traditional. I am looking for something more unique and was rather disappointed that they did not have anything by this designer that I was looking for. She did say that she could get the ring (as if there was only one I wanted to look at in person), but I could only imagine the pressure to buy it even it turned out to be something that I didn't want in the end. She did not offer to show anything else she may have had. Then at the end she basically called me a "Naperville snob" (um, I don't even live in Naperville) and telling me that "even though you think you want to keep your ring forever, you'll change it within 10 years, you girls always go." I'm sorry, you don't know me after talking to me for 5 minutes. Some people do still cherish the idea of tradition. What she said was rather rude, condescending, and not an appropriate thing to say when trying to make a sale - especially in this economy. They are new, but I don't think they will last.
