    Front entrance / parking spots

As a vinyl collector I make it a point to go to one or few record stores whenever I am visiting and Black Cat Records N Comics came up on my search for spots to check out while I was visiting Dallas on a weekend. Easy and front door parking is offered here. If you can't find parking there is a nice lot next door that you can park in or along the side street. We got a spot right in the front of the entrance door when we came. We were greeted immediately as we walked in and offered assistance if and when we needed. I appreciated the small talk with one of the workers as we talked about live music, Die Spitz (an Austin punk band), and how the store is laid out. There is so much to go through here so be ready to hang for an hour or so, if you got the time. There are bins priced from $1 to full price on new, used, and gently used vinyl records here. The organization of genres is easy to navigate with the great signs and markers for artists to singles VS LPs (albums) so you should be able to get through whatever particular genre or artist you want easily. Vinyl pricing varies regardless of what record store/s you visit because of demand but I thought Black Cat Records N Comics was fair. I got a single California Love vinyl by 2Pac/Dr. Dre in super excellent condition for less than $12! I also found a used copy of Boygenuis and my partner got a Snail Mail LP he had been on the hunt for. Pricing will vary based on new, used, and maybe popularity or rarity of the vinyl but that is the case across all record stores / online stores / etc. who sell vinyl. Super happy we stopped in and next time we are in Dallas we plan on coming back in again and seeing what other gems we can find.

I visited Cosmic Comics on my way home yesterday and I had an absolutely great experience. After…read morereading up on some of my fav characters, I decided to look into reading comics. As someone who knew barely anything at all, I was a bit overwhelmed and lost while looking through their selection (which is very well presented and organized). Nick, an employee there, was so helpful in assisting me as I looked for certain titles, explaining how comic cycles work, and how their store operates. They even checked their back stock to see if they had certain issues I was seeking! My fav comic shop I have ever attempted to look through. I even signed up for their really cool subscription plan! Great place with great people!

TERRIBLE SERVICE - Won't Be Back…read more FIRST - I walked in and the person behind the counter just stared at me. No "Hi," no "Hello," no "How can I help you"... NOTHING. I had to introduce myself and explain I was there to inquire about selling some Pokémon cards. He then told me they only buy in bulk. Fine - I actually came in with a huge collection plus a rare Dragonite V Alternate Art 192/203 (Evolving Skies Full Art Alt Art). SECOND - I asked if he wanted to at least look at the rare card. He declined without hesitation, then added that shops "only pay 20%-30% of the value." That is completely FALSE. THIRD - After all of this, I said "okay" and wrapped it up. But was I thanked for coming in? Was I told "have a good day" or even a simple "bye"? Nope. Just another blank stare. This shop clearly does not value its customers or show even the bare minimum of courtesy. Even if they don't want to purchase something, the least they could do is provide basic customer service. Instead, I walked away feeling disrespected and dismissed. Absolutely awful experience.

Although it does not carry what I'm specifically interested in, if you like to play board games in a relaxed social atmosphere and pick up more modern-day collectibles, this might be the place for you. Madness has a wide variety of collector card sets, board games, and also modern action figure lines, with Star Wars and G.I. Joe as large focal points. Madness does carry some vintage Star Wars figures from the '70s/'80s but it really shines with the franchise toy lines that have come after that heyday, with deep inventory in the sequel trilogy figures, Power of the Force, post-prequel movie and streaming show figures, and the Retro Collection. This is also the place if you love the Pop! Funko figures (which I do not in the least) as Madness has definitely gone all in on the craze. I found the staff to be helpful with my questions during my visit and they gave me space to think about some items I was mulling over. Although I probably won't be a frequent visitor, I appreciate the unique offerings Madness brings, especially in creating community.

I am reminded of this classic Yoda teaching every time I…read morewalk into Dallas Vintage Toys, which definitely lives up to its reputation as one of the best vintage toy outlets in the country. The first time I went there, it was admittedly a bit overwhelming as it took me an hour or so just to get a grasp on the lay of the land. DVT really shines with vintage Star Wars and GI Joe '70s and '80s figures, vehicles, and playsets - both loose, on card and in box. It's just as much of an art gallery as it is a retail business. DTV has a dedicated room of officially graded toys if you're looking very top of the line, several thousand dollars in value. And it also has loose complete Star Wars figures you can buy for $24.99, depending on the character. I really enjoy re-releases of my favorite toys growing up, and often prefer commemorative editions so I can enjoy the nostalgia without the heavy financial investment, and DVT has good finds of later releases. There's so much variety. If you don't prefer figures, you might score an item like the Yoda puppet from Empire Strikes Back or other merchandise you don't see all the time. While DVT makes its high-value offerings visible, you might very well dig up some treasure in the aisles as you browse. This past weekend, I came across the Hot Toys Jack Nicholson '89 Joker 1/6 scale figure - an undeniable Grail. It was just hanging out in the Batman section on the shelf with the rest. I forced myself not to look in the box and walk away as I've never seen it in person - I knew I would fall in love. It's $500 I don't have to explain to my wife! While I have purchased a few things from DTV, I am not familiar with the experience of selling a collection there. In the late 90s/early 2000s, I sold many of my old figures to a similar establishment and really regret it. What I will say is that Shaun and his staff are readily available for advice and to bounce ideas off of, and so, if you want to sell, it's definitely worth consulting with them. Just know you very well could get a third of what you perceive your collection to be worth - and that's anywhere. These businesses need to eat and pay bills just like the rest of us! If you haven't been to this nostalgia museum, take some time to relax, know your spending limits before walking in, and enjoy. May the Force Be With You!

They have an excellent array of new toy collectibles, vintage toys, parts, grab bags, MOC, video games, reissues, comics, lunchboxes, etc... etc... One thing that really pleases me about this place is that since I started going there a few years ago, they've expanded their girl-centric vintage toys. I've purchased many pink box Barbies from them for my collection. I feel like their prices are fair when you compare costs to the same items on eBay which is kind of exploitative to sellers anyway. I haven't sold anything to DVT yet, but I feel like I could trust that they would be fair. I think it's important to understand what DVT specializes in and not walk in expecting to sell them just anything and get a pretty penny for it. They do a great job of organizing and displaying everything as well and they keep their social media updated daily with new merchandise. They also have celebrity meet and greets too which is fun and they also have the occasional sidewalk sale (so sad I missed the last one). I really can't understand why anyone would rate DVT low. It's an amazing place.
