Located upstairs in the Hanalei Center, Black Coral Yoga is a gem of a yoga studio in Hanalei. Our friend started taking hot yoga classes there so we had to try some hot classes when we visited: -Sculpt with Jenny -Athletic sculpt with Kristen Wow! Both classes were hot - that infrared heat is no joke - and both were hard! Kicked (and sculpted) our butts! We were dripping in sweat and we were a good sore after each. I'd frequent this class if I lived nearby! Bring your own mat, towel, and water. They provide the weights/props. $28 for a drop-in seemed very reasonable! Thanks for a great two classes. read more

My sister and I did the yoga sculpt class while visiting, was a really killer class. I also did a regular hot yoga class by myself. The instructor offered modifications to the hot yoga class I took, and I really felt the benefits of each posture afterwards. For both classes, I was really sore afterwards- and I consider myself in really great shape. Overall, wonderful experience, classes, instructors, and variety of classes. I took the 75-minute Relax Deeply class on Sunday evening, and honestly, I don't think I've ever been this relaxed in my life. Some of the poses felt uncomfortable at first, but pushing through that gentle discomfort made the relaxation afterward feel even deeper and more rewarding. The instructor was amazing--calm, clear, and so intuitive with her guidance and adjustments. It was the perfect reset at the end of my trip. If I could take this class every day, I absolutely would. read more

Black coral is such a beautiful and simple Space. I've been to many hot yoga studios, by far Kristins vinyasa class is the best experience I've ever had. She is so captivating and helpful during the session. It's no wonder classes are so full! Expect a full class and I would bring a towel as it gets super heated. After class, each equipment, mat, and block is cleaned, which is located outside on the patio, next to the back door. I took a strong flow heated vinyasa class with Kristen as the instructor and it was one of the best yoga classes I've ever taken. The class was challenging in the best way and it felt like I sweat my entire existence out! Lol. I am so lucky to have this as my home studio. The teachers and owner go to extensive lengths in their offerings and the mindful intention behind each class. The studio is beautiful and set in gorgeous Hanalei. You are often met with a rainbow in or out of class. The space is clean and cared for meticulously. There are always great shopping opportunities on your way into class with vetted amazing products. Just make sure to sign up before class because some fill up fast. I like to take yoga classes when I travel and it often reminds me how much education, passion, and intention goes into each class at Black Coral and for that I am so grateful! read more

I have been a student of yoga for 11 years now, and have practiced at nearly every studio on Kauai since moving here 7 years ago. Black Coral is by far the best Kauai has to offer and holds itself to a very high standard. Kristin, Jess, Mary, along with all the teachers at Black Coral, are very well educated, practiced, and clearly devoted to their teachings. The studio is bright and clean and located on the beautiful north shore. They have a wide range of classes which compliment one another. Black coral has a special place in my heart. If you are on island or visiting, I highly recommend taking a class here. You can't go wrong with ANY of the classes. High quality (manduka!!) yoga mats are always available to rent if you didn't bring one with you on your travels. I will say, I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years and Kristin is by far one of (if not THE) memorable and inspiring teachers I have ever taken a class with. She takes you on an internal journey and her words and wisdom resonate so deeply. It truly is a profound experience for the mind, body + soul. This place welcomes visitors on the island and locals alike! Great hot yoga class that will make you sweat buckets (in a good way). Left feeling lighter. Not ideal for the novices, but as in most yoga classes, there are always modifications. Our instructor had great cues and commentary in class as well... my favorite being "you are not the weather, you are the sun." Thanks for the great workout! read more

When I first moved to the north shore of Kauai ten years ago, I missed Los Angeles yoga with the long held poses and the full body challenge. My first yoga studio was in Hanalei. That wonderful studio has new owners, and now I'm back there again. Kristin's power vinyasa classes gives me the best of best teachers from all over the country in one person. I want to work in my poses and be challenged - I want my body and my mind to transform and I want creative pose sequencing and Kristin delivers that every single time. Never the exact same sequencing, so my mind must connect with my body, I can't "check out". Power Vinyasa is my preferred style of yoga. With this new studio transformed from an old space, I truly feel like I am returning home - to my body and myself. No need to get on an airplane to chase the better power vinyasa yoga instructors. And when you leave the classes at Black Coral yoga, you can walk Hanalei Bay and watch the sunset, the rivers pouring into the ocean, the crabs and the waterfalls gracing the Hihimanu, knowing you have done something amazing for your body, knowing you will return to do this amazing thing for your body, over and over and over. I'm looking forward to trying other classes there, too. Black Coral Yoga is worth the drive to Hanalei if you live anywhere on the north shore. This has to be my favorite studio on the island of Kauai. It's recently been upgraded and totally revamped by the new owners. It's a beautiful peaceful space to come practice. They offer so many classes to pick from. It's wonderful to have so many options throughout the day. Heated and non heated. Fitness and restorative classes. Aerial yoga and Bare. They have it all. ALL of the instructors are amazing, very educated, and mindful. I go there about 4 days a week. Highly recommended! read more
