I've been hearing about the hype around this place for almost a year now. I started working in Booneville a little over eight months ago and Black Dog Meat Co. always gets brought up anytime the conversation drifts towards dining out and/or specifically remarkable places to eat locally or at least nearby. Due to being closed on the weekends (which I totally get, family is important) I hadn't had a chance to dine at Black Dog until recently when Booneville hosted a Totality Eclipse event. It was a pleasant surprise when I noticed they were open outside of normal business hours and I told my wife we weren't leaving until I got to order from the "legendary" town sandwich shop. We walked in to a rustic chic dining area adorned with family pictures, portraits of the dogs that served as the diner's namesake, and quirky bits of The Office memorabilia. Right away the decor, the lighting, and the overall upbeat mood of the little eatery evoked a strong sense of down home, authentic Americana. I couldn't wait to order. It didn't take long to decide which TWO entrées I wanted to devour, the menu is condensed and offers the exact amount of variety for such a place, but it DID take a few minutes to decide between the Chopper's Reuben and the Triple Pepper Burger. Both descriptions made my mouth salivate as I read through them, but I think in the end the idea of trying the famous smash burgers they're known for won me over as I opted for the latter. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Reuben probably more than any other classic sandwich and I'll definitely go back the minute I get the chance just to experience that, but I couldn't resist the mouthwatering description of a smash patty adorned with Jalepenos, chipotle mayo, the renowned Black Dog signature sauce, along with so much more. Ordered with a side of fries and a soda from the cooler, I waited impatiently. Partly due to being hungry after walking the blocks all day and partly due to finally getting a chance to form my own opinion about the place, I was chomping at the bit to get my burger basket. It didn't take long at all (even with a fairly packed dining area) and when the young lady who took my order brought my food over she barely had a chance to place it on the table before I was digging in and chowing down. Needless to say, it exceeded my every expectation. The bun was warm and fresh and tasted like it came straight from the oven. The perfectly balanced crispy and tender meat fritter was award worthy to say the least. The toppings: simply phenomenal. Quite a lengthy description on the menu led me to wonder if it was gonna be too much as the various flavors might end up struggling to present themselves enough to offer a distinguish taste, but boy was I wrong on that account. In addition to the others I mentioned earlier, the Three Pepper offered French fried crunchy onions, pepper jack cheese, and sriracha sauce. Of course, the distinct Black Dog sauce was the figurative cherry on top. Both equally discernible and delicious, I had to ask for a ramekin full to dip my fries in. Not that they needed it, by any means. The fries, my goodness the fries. if I had ordered from an Oscars party these would've taken home "best supporting actor to the main entrée". A perfectly golden yellow and crispy exterior with a warm, almost velvety interior, these little potato sticks almost stole the whole show. Seasoned with a savory blend of various spices and simply amazing in their own right, I couldn't get enough of the deep fried frites. In addition to the full flavored sauce that defines Black Dog, the fries should be considered a signature staple of the diner considering I've never tasted any as good as theirs before. A very welcoming atmosphere with a wholesome, family vibe, exceptional customer service, memorable food that deserves all the praise it receives, and an exceptional homemade signature sauce that needs to be bottled immediately make Black Dog Meat Co. a must stop for anyone in Logan County or even remotely close to the area. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the items ordered. We got a Chicken Club Sandwich and the Bama. They were out of Ruebens that day, so that tells me Ruebens are an item to be desired. They have a drive-thru and close near 3pm. If you don't pre-order, expect a 20-30min wait. They also have delicious burgers. Breakfast items are offered before 10am. read more

Black Dog Meats is a neat little sandwich shop named in reference to my favorite dog, the Labrador retriever. Specifically, the smartest of the breed, the Black Lab. Cool décor, small inside, find a table where you can, or share one with a stranger. They offer a good variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and burgers covering breakfast to lunch. We tried their Chopper's Ruben and a side of fries. The menu description has a lengthy list of ingredients that should make for a massive sandwich. It is dressed with the shops signature Black Dog Sauce. Ours were absolutely delicious, but massive no. I am not sure everything advertised was actually on the sandwich. The Black Dog Sauce, I don't know? For 13 bucks there should have been more of the House made pastrami. The fries were fresh cut potatoes, coated and fried to a deep golden brown. Lots of those nice crunchy little potato slivers served up in a boat load sized portion. A very popular sandwich shop. To go orders were flying out the door as patrons were trying to beat the 2 pm closing. Very nice friendly service. Highly recommended. There is none better. They smoke their own meats. Their version of a Rueben is one of the best, though not traditional. The pastrami is smoked, the slaw/kraut is homemade, the sauce is homemade. But seriously, you can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches! We've never had one of their specials that wasn't spot on. (Hint: If they have their biscuits and gravy as a special, do yourself a favor and have the best around.). And for locals, their steaks and smoked meats and eggs are truly special to take home and create your own delicasies. On top of it all, the owners are good folks...and they love dogs (which make them double good). read more

Finally got to give this place a try. Inside is impressive for the area. Waitresses are super nice and very appreciative of your business. Ordered their Philly cheese steak ( to go) . On first sight thought it was kinda small for $11.00 but after tasting it , it was banging!! Ribeye used has excellent flavor not greasy or fatty. Onions caramelized perfectly. Peppers a tad bit large (didnt cook at the same rate as the onions) cheese was also good. But!! Here's where things get interesting. They use their own in-house made Black dog sauce.. it adds a interesting flavor profile to the meat.. little bit of heat but not over powering. When all the flavors come together its a winning combination for the Black Dog. This place is deff a must try!! You won't be let disappointed... read more

Excellent Food and Service! I ordered "The Jack"! It was so good, I ordered a second sandwich to have for lunch the next day. Needless to say the sandwich did not survive the night. The only opportunity that this establishment has is there hours of operation. The hours are never consistent. This maybe to cut down on operation cost but they do produce a good enough product that they could be open past 2:00 pm on a weekday. But if a lunchtime sandwich shop is what you are going for... good job... you made it. Take the next step and feed the rest of us past 2:00 pm! I Need It! My wife and I travel 40 minutes about ones a week to eat at Black Dog. We always get the Merica burger because it is the best burger ever. My wife got us the streak and shrimp yesterday and it is the tastiest, juiciest steak and awesome shrimp. Everything I have tried has been the best I've ever eaten!!! These people are so sweet and kind. The atmosphere is perfect. James is not just a cook, he is a true chef. Everything he cooks it meticulously prepared. Just left the Black Dog Meat Company. Their food is amazing!! If you are in the area, don't pass this place! I had the Bama sandwich. Where do I start?? I chose turkey, and I believe it was shaved.A generous amount of bacon and turkey. Thick sliced bacon so you actually could enjoy it too! Avacado was fresh and delicious! All their sandwiches come with chips and a drink and very reasonably priced. My husband got a Moo Pig burger. He loved it and I tasted it. It was absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection!!
