Not a fan. We have eaten there multiple times and the only thing that was actually good was the pie.

The service was great. Fast and friendly. The food was fine. I got the grilled chicken with broccoli and applesauce. It was nothing special but not terrible either. It came out quickly and it was super convenient since I was staying across the street. Was hoping for better but it's not a big city. I also got the cherry pie with ice cream, it was pretty good. My husband and I stop to eat at The Old South Diner every time we drive to visit family in Little Rock from Fayetteville. I just love the hamburger steak but the chicken fried steak is always a hit with us. We loved the charm of their original location and are devastated about the fire. However, I love the new location inside of the old Dixie Cafe in Russellville! Service is always great and the food is always hot. I went for the CFS, but the lunch special was a BLT w fried green tomato! Sold! Great BLT (double-bacon of course!), and the Chocolate Gravy & Biscuits made a perfect appetizer! The Seasoned Grilled Chicken Tenders were also a big hit! We arrived in the midst of the lunch rush, and only waited about 10 minutes. Well done!! read more

Service was nice, hostess was very inviting and I thought genuinely friendly. Setting - outdated had an old smell it felt sticky. But I will return. Hamburger steak, coconut pie was really good. Fried fish, mozzarella sticks fries burgers are also recommended. read more

Place is always completely packed. If you are gonna come get there early! Mainly elderly people. They have lots of tables and booths, but the small cafe is kinda cool. They gloat o the fact that a few celebrities have dined there; such as Elvis. I guess you can still sit in his booth which is kinda cool if you really like him. We had never tried the "chocolate gravy everyone in AR talks about. It honestly just tastes like warm pudding.. I got a burger it was okay, the wife got a breakfast. Honestly it tasted similar to Cracker Barrel. The Peanut Butter Pie was pretty good. I'd say a little better than a Village Inn Pie. I'd say their pie is the reason to go, but you might as well just buy a whole one for a few bucks more. read more

After a few hours of hot sun and a brutal tenderizing from Michelin, Firestone and Goodyear, they render down to nothing more than a greasy spot. Even fresh, made into a pie? No way. No amount of whipped cream and sugar can turn a possum into a pie. Saturday is Turkey and Dressing. Every plate coming from the kitchen was Turkey and Dressing. And it is good. A big slice of tender, juicy roast turkey, on top of a pile of what tasted like homemade cornbread dressing amply seasoned fragrant sage. All of that flooded with gravy. Fried okra, black-eyed peas and fresh hot yeast rolls on the side; a true southern dinner. Finish that delightful meal with a big slice of rich, sweet, creamy Possum Pie. Check the pictures. We stopped into the Old South Restaurant for dinner. It was packed on a Saturday night but we got right in. The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. We had chicken fried steak with okra and french fries and chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. We took home a piece of the chocolate cake and a piece of coconut cream pie. My husband and I stopped in on Saturday, 09/27/25, just before noon. The wait to be seated was only about five minutes, which was reasonable. Once seated, our waitress brought menus and took our drink order, but we waited another five minutes or so for the drinks. She then disappeared for several minutes before returning with straws. It was another 5-7 minutes before she came back to take our food order. My husband ordered chicken-fried steak with okra, mashed potatoes, and gravy. I had the chicken fajita salad. Another couple came in after us, sat behind my husband, and ordered. One of them also got the chicken-fried steak, and their food arrived at least 10 minutes before ours. It made us wonder if our order had been forgotten or delayed. We were heading to Little Rock for a memorial service and were somewhat pressed for time, so the slow service was frustrating. The food itself was very good, but the service was lacking. Perhaps our waitress was having an off day. One other concern: I noticed a man I believe to be the owner bussing tables, and he put a ketchup bottle into the front pocket of his jeans. No longer live in Russellville but grew up going here and go back anytime I'm in town. The breakfast is incredible, and the prime rib is fantastic for dinner. They changed their dinner rolls since the last time I came and they are so much better than before. Service is always great - fast and efficient. The old restaurant definitely matched the vibe better but unfortunately it burned down and the whole community was devastated if that tells you anything about how much people love this place. They have done an amazing job with the new location (which has seen many restaurants fail), and it is always full no matter what time I go. I love this place and always will! read more

Driving through on our way to hike in the Buffalo River area and we stopped in for a hearty breakfast. I'm not usually a big fan of biscuits and gravy or of country fried steak and gravy but something about the reviews told me to give them a try. I'm so glad that I did. They were both delicious. The steak was seasoned perfectly and it was tender. The biscuit was delicious on its own. The gravy was outstanding. I can't believe that I enjoyed either of these dishes as much as I did. In town riding motorcycles with some friends and we stopped by with over 12 folks. They got us seated and the young lady waiting on us was outstanding. The food was wonderful I had the chicken fried chicken and it was nice n tender. I will say it's not like the old South Restaurant but the new location allows for a lager group of people to enjoy the food. I like the new set up. Again thanks to the staff especially the waitress she worked hard to ensure we had a great meal and time. FYI I didn't have one as I was stuffed but the desserts looked delicious read more

What a great place to eat! We are staying at a hotel near by and walked to it to get our food to take back to the room. Ordering was easy, the staff was friendly and while we were waiting I am pretty sure the owner thanked us for coming in! The food was great! We got a grilled chicken salad and a vegetable plate and for dessert ice box lemon pie. The grilled chicken on the salad was so tasty! And the veggies reminded my husband of his childhood! Was recommended this place by several locals so I had to try it out for breakfast. Got here and the parking lot was really full so that's always a good sign. Surprisingly was seated right away and had a hot cup of coffee right away. Jessi was my server and she was great recommended my favorite chicken fried steak and eggs with a side of biscuit and gravy. My daughter thought the chicken fried steak was ok. The portions were large. The building was neat inside with the brick walls. I went there for the very first time and left disappointed. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and what i got was just bread and meat, i tried to be as polite as i could and told the waitress she immediately grabbed the plate and took it to the kitchen to get it fixed. When she brought out the plate; first- she brought the same sandwich back. I noticed that because i had given a bite already and it was all the same.
