One of the most well known Boise courses is Hillcrest, home to the annual Korn Ferry Tour event and recognize as one of the premier private Country Clubs in the region. What sets HCCC apart for me are several factors. First of all, the course is in fantastic condition. Beautifully maintained, with challenging greens and nice landscaping. The course is flatter than some of my favorites, and I prefer some rolling hills and changes in elevation like Pumpkin Ridge outside Portland. However, the combination of playability and challenge is fantastic at Hillcrest. Another outstanding feature is the Professional Golf Staff and Management. The Head Pro, Brian McKinley is among the best I've ever met! And the Director of Instruction, Mark Johnson is warm, knowledgeable and an excellent resource. The Management has changed in the past few years, bringing a completely different and substantially more professional approach to the Member/Guest experience. I'm always impressed when the individuals in charge are working alongside their staff, bussing tables, refilling drinks, etc. The idea is that they're all in this together, working in lock step to provide a great experience. And that's a well run club and course! They've also really improved the experience from the Cart Guys/Girls, and Pro Shop employees. They're courteous, professional and under Brian's leadership, have become much more efficient with things like registrations, equipment sourcing, re-gripping and alike. I still would like to see cart guys/girls greeting guests at their cars to grab clubs and show them where to go to practice, etc. But that's improved as well. Overall, Hillcrest Country Club is the best private course in Boise by a lot. I enjoy getting to play there when I'm in town, and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great community for their families to belong to.

PROS: It's a small, I believe 3500 seat stadium, so you're up close and personal to the players and game. Only seats down first and third, and behind the plate. Concessions are nice, with places to get food, apparel, and beer. I'm partial to IPA beer, so I go to the artificial grassy area near right field, where the bartenders always seem nice. Prices are reasonable. The seats are reasonably comfortable. Tickets are very affordable. Family oriented, and we've seen little league teams and young folks having a good time. Parking is free. CONS: The parking lot is not paved or marked. I highly advise you to park far enough away from the park so as not to have your car damaged by a foul ball. Pavement inside the park is uneven. Restrooms are not nice or particularly clean. In summary, I've enjoyed my time at Memorial Stadium for the two Hawk games I've attended.

There are three simulators with a wide variety of ways to play including longest drive competitions, closest to the hole, playing 9 or 18 holes, and other game options. It is a great setup for practicing your swing or just having some fun. There is also a counter, sink, and tables so it is easy to host or entertain a group while you are there. It didn't feel like a highly stage crafted production. On the website they make it seem like it's a complete event, with things to do beyond the maze. There was not. Here is the silver lining, the two mazes ( Asylum and clown) were descent. A lot of jump scares and a few cool features(vibrating floor and loud horns). The actors did a good job of interacting and really are the heart of the experience. Is it worth $30? Umm, that's debatable. I'd probably say it's close to $20. Bottom line it's not as bad as people make it seem in other reviews, but it certainly isn't as good either. I made the most of it with my group and we had a good time getting scared. I probably wouldn't go back next year unless there was a complete overhaul. Pro tip: You don't need VIP/Express, save your money. Longest wait for me was 20mins(7pm time). Unprofessional and Disrespectful Hiring Process…read more I'm writing this review to express my frustration with the way Crane Creek Country Club has handled their hiring process. As someone who lives in the Highlands and was genuinely interested in contributing to their team this summer, I expected at least a basic level of communication and professionalism, but that was far from my experience. I first reached out to Crane Creek on April 25th, sending my resume to most of the email addresses listed on their employment page. Unfortunately, their website doesn't list any current openings, so I treated it as an inquiry rather than a formal application. I followed up on May 9th and received no response. Later, colleagues with connections to the club helped me get in touch with someone on the leadership team. I sent my completed application and resume again on June 2nd, just in case there was any confusion. On June 12th, I received multiple calls from an unknown number with no voicemail left. When they finally did leave a message, it was Jared Gion from Crane Creek. We had a productive 20-minute conversation about a golf course maintenance position, and I went down to the club within the hour to meet with a staff member named Ryan. He was friendly but brief, stating the next steps would be either a second interview or to come in and start work after filling out another application. Since then, I have called Jared multiple times over the past two weeks and have received absolutely no response--no email, no voicemail, nothing. The complete lack of follow-up, after taking time out of my day to meet with them and demonstrating flexibility and genuine interest in the position, is both highly unprofessional and frankly disrespectful. I understand that not every inquiry or interview leads to a job--but clear communication is the bare minimum in any professional setting. If a company can't extend the courtesy of letting you know whether or not you're moving forward, that says a lot about how they value people. Potential applicants: proceed with caution. And to Crane Creek: you can and should do better.
