Love the seating outdoors and the coziness inside. It's in a quiet location off the beaten path. Such a gem. The service was great - efficient and very friendly staff. I didn't try anything on the menu other than the iced brew but the table next to me had a cake that looked dreamy. Others nearby were enjoying muffins. This is a cozy neighborhood coffee shop with decent coffee and a nice, small outdoor seating area that's perfect for enjoying a drink on a pleasant day. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, which really made the experience enjoyable. I'll definitely be back for the warm service and relaxed atmosphere. My only suggestion would be to expand the menu with a few more food options or unique specialty coffee drinks to make it even more of a destination. read more

Nestled in a neighborhood of River Forest is Black Fodder coffee. A quaint coffee shop with a welcoming patio and interior. I was greeted by a friendly barista who chatted with me about how long they had been open, and what drinks I may like. I opted to order an iced latte with their homemade cinnamon sugar syrup, and a hot americano to go. The coffee tasted fine, nothing super special but then again cinnamon sugar is not the most powerful flavor. I was most disappointed by the cost. Their iced lattes only come in 10oz cups, and the cost was over $7. Their hot americano also seemed pricy at $5. I believe some of their proceeds might go to some good causes, however I couldn't tell exactly what their philanthropy structure is online. Overall it's a nice place to work or have a conversation, but I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

Black Fodder is an excellent addition to my coffee shop rotation in the area. I usually go with a classic batch hot coffee. It's sturdy, reliable, and tasty. I like delving into a modern batch brew when it is available. Many good coffee drinks besides the regular coffee roasts. I also enjoy the cold brew. The service is always friendly. Food is typically gluten-free baked goods that pair well with the coffee drinks. I typically take the coffee to go, but I've also sat down with a friend and some coffee and it's a great place for conversation and comfort. Parking is usually not difficult to find near the building. read more

First impression is amazing. What a beautiful spot, and we were welcomed warmly. The young woman behind the counter was pleasant and helpful. She wasn't sure if they were serving crepes so she went to check with the manager and/or owner, came back and started to take our order when the manager and/or owner walked out from the back, ignored us as she stepped between us and the young woman, told her that they weren't serving crepes (even though the sign said they were served between 8am and noon), scolded the young woman, and then walked away without acknowledging the customers (us) standing there trying to order what she just took away. It's clear that she hired front-of-cafe staff who knew how to respect customers, but it was quite insulting to be ignored like we didn't exist. It's understandable if something happened that made the menu inaccurate, but it's common courtesy to apologize and explain that to the potential customers hoping to order those items. That didn't happen and we won't be coming back. read more

She was contacted once and but have not heard back. I reached out to the owner as well and I have not heard back. The coffee is great and baristas definitely put their heart into each coffee. I'm intrigued with the desserts and pastries created by Monica. They are simply superb. There's protein rich pistachio cake with a beautiful light flavor with just a hint of sweetness which is outstanding. Then there's an organic strawberry cake that had a chiffon cake crust topped with two layers of fresh strawberry flavors. Divine. Fodder is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. read more

I hired Maciej and his team at Black Fodder to cater our wedding coffee. They were absolutely fantastic. We were looking for something unique and special, and they delivered! Other coffee caterers have ugly coffee carts that look like they are from the 90s. Black Fodder's is modern and tasteful. I reached out to them about 7-8 months prior to the event and they were quick to respond. Maciej did a complimentary tasting at my parents home in the suburbs for three people where he brought all of his equipment. We loved it! It was about 1-2 hours long and he was kind and patient in answering all of my mom's questions. I had a lot of questions about the contract, as well as lots of venue related restrictions that he was very willing to comply with. We appreciated that a lot as I know our restrictions were probably not the easiest to work with. (Nut free venue, short tear down time, etc) We had Black Fodder at our cocktail hour and reception for about 110 guests. I believe we had three tea selections, espresso, and nitro coffee. The guests raved about the coffee and tea! It was really one of the best highlights of our celebration. They brought all their own equipment including their beautiful coffee cart, glass cups (important for me as I didn't want to create tons of trash!), etc. I am generally a very critical reviewer (see other reviews) and had some hesitations about hiring someone who did not have that many reviews on Yelp. The drinks were amazing and the service was exceptional. You will not regret hiring Maciej! He always goes the extra mile and is very kind and puts a lot of care and passion into his work.
