I went to Portage Coffee after a morning of pickleball at Portage Park, and this was a great location to stop at! I wanted to take more pictures of the location itself, but it was bustling so I didn't want to bother others. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But the place is spacious, they have indoor and patio seating, as well as a great space to wfh![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a printer you can use, a work meeting space in the back corner away from the noises, and a clean background too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]But the main area still gives a great coffee shop vibe, with outlets for laptops.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, the service is great! The food was really good, I loved the chocolate croissant. It was melting all over my hand with how much chocolate it offered. The cold brew was great as well, it was a great boost after an outdoor session. I did pull out my laptop to work on stuff, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do suggest either your own internet or if you have xfinity, use the hotspot. I don't stop into portage grounds as much as I'd like to but every time I stop in it's alway consistent! The drinks are made with care and kindness! The treats are tasty. Please don't ever change! I've passed by Portage Grounds many times but haven't been here. Since I was in the neighborhood today I decided to stop by and grab some chai. There is a good deal of outside seating, though it's not yet nice enough to sit out. Inside is really comfortable and very welcoming for people to hang out and get some work done. There's even a small office space--a little conference room--which I've never seen before. They also have a printer for use by patrons too. The menu isn't terribly extensive but has everything you'd expect at a coffee shop. The chai I had was good; nothing remarkable, but I would happily stop in for another cup. I picked up one of their specials, an Irish cream coffee (with Irish cream whipped cream!) for someone else and was told it was pretty darn good. The service was friendly, which I appreciate because sometimes it feels like employees at coffee shops can be a bit uppity. They have pastries and whatnot but since Id' just had lunch I wasn't in the market for sweets. Next time, almost certainly. read more

I love portage grounds coffee shop. Anytime I'm in portage Park. I'll go there if I need to get some work done. Surprisingly enough, I haven't actually tried their coffee yet. This is an adorable local coffee shop right across the street from Portage park. I was worried about not finding parking but was able to find a spot right in front of the shop. First, their fall decor is amazing. It's very inviting and nice to look at. It's pretty small inside but felt cozy. I was immediately greeted when I walked in. They have a seasonal menu with their fall specialty lattes. I opted for the caramel apple latte and then I got their herbed goat cheese croissant too. The latte was just ok. The flavor tasted weird to me. I couldn't really taste the apple. I got hints of the caramel but in a weird way. The flavor overall could've been better however the cup itself was cute!! I ordered a cold brew and my mom ordered a hot black coffee. My cold brew was not very strong. It definitely could have used a kick. My mom's coffee was very smooth and delicious. The staff was very friendly. Both the exterior and interior are quite cozy and cute. It is quite spacious inside with a good amount of seating. If I did not live over an hour away, I could definitely see myself bringing my laptop here to get some work done. read more

I wish I lived in the area so I could visit more! A real nice place with plenty of outdoor seating. I just walked in for a pumpkin spice latte and it tastes just like, maybe even better than, Starbucks for about 2/3 the price LOL Two people were working behind the bar and they were both super nice. I'm a straight black cold brew kind of person so not the best judge of coffee variety lol Although the cold brew with a shot I got was great! Also got a huge danish cinnamon roll that was delicious and finished before I took a picture haha. Seems they have a random assortment of pastries varying daily. Also, saw that they have an online order platform "joe coffee app". Right across from the park, a great change of pace for a relaxing morning or when your just tired of the same old thing from Starbucks and want to help out a local business. Came here for the first time, and I fell in love! This place has such cute urban decor and a cute outdoor patio, too! My friend and I wanted to go to a cute little coffee shop so that we could lesson plan and grade, and we were so happy to have come here! The cool thing about this place is that they have a cute little conference room area where you can work, but we didn't bother sitting in it. Still a cute idea because not many places offer that. The blueberry muffin was delicious, the iced caramel latte was amazing, and the service was great! The two workers were super nice! This place also has a great music playlist, as well! Amazing. Super comfortable and cozy environment, friendly staff, and the drinks don't disappoint. The iced matcha was really yummy, and super rich. Definitely good quality matcha. The iced chai was the perfect balance of milk to tea and it had a well-rounded spice profile. We also got an herbed goat cheese croissant which was very flavorful and buttery. It was gone before we remembered to take a picture (which proves how good it was). I've come here multiple times, and usually I get the carmel latte which is also delicious. Hmmm. I feel slightly torn with Portage Grounds. They make fantastic speciality lattes, I will give them that. But when it comes to staples like plain black coffee and cold brew, it's a skip to me. They just aren't brewed correctly and taste horrible, and I feel bad saying that because it's a beautiful, small business. They also only have out half and half, and I don't know about you, but I expect skim milk, whole milk, cream, half and half, and plenty of options of sweeteners if you're a local, speciality coffee shop. I'm disappointed because this is the closest coffee shop to work, but I'll probably stick to a chain for my daily cup of caffeine unless I'm in the mood for a treat. read more

So I'm on this kick of adventuring to and trying local coffee shops. I have passed by here before and really wanted to give this place a try. I'm really happy I did because it rocks!!!! Seriously cool place. Okay the basic logistics. This is located on north side of city. There is a big parking lot next door, ample street parking, and close to a CTA stop. They accept debit, credit and cash so you're good either way. The employees are very friendly, polite and make a serious cup of coffee. There is ample seating and even a room you can reserve for meetings etc. I ordered a latte and it was everything that was right in the world. Tons of flavor and perfect amount of milk to kick ratio ha ha ha (my own little term). At $4 for a large, I felt the prices were very fair. There were some really good looking baked goods, but I didn't get a chance to try those out. Next time for sure. Do yourself a solid and check out this north side neighborhood gem. read more

Stopped for coffee and donuts early Sunday morning. Street parking is your option, we found a spot pretty quick so that was nice. Atmosphere and aesthetic of this coffee shop is beautiful. Love the open seating outside and the comfy and cool vibes inside. The man at the counter was friendly. We ordered 3 donuts and 3 coffees- it was $27 with tip. We ordered our drinks to go, but when served they were all for "in-house" so we had to move them to paper cups. The sprinkle donut I got looked great, but the frosting and sprinkles literally slid right off the donut after picking it up out of the bag. I had to eat it in a bowl. My mocha latte was very, very milky. I didn't get much mocha or much espresso. I would visit this place again, but I would reco enjoying your coffee and breakfast in house. This place is definitely a life saver for us caffeine junkies. I woke up this morning literally with a pounding headache from caffeine withdrawals. I rolled out of bed, and put on my coat, boots, and sunglasses. I walked over to this cafe, and ordered a Carmel latte with a shot of espresso. The cafe is so chilled and laid back. The customer service was amazing. The cashier helped me find the perfect recipe to feed my caffeine withdrawals. She did not judge my appearance at all, and she was super helpful during my time of crisis. The barista was under no pressure to get my order out. I did not know how much effort goes into making a latte until I ordered from this cafe. I waited about 10 minutes to get the beautifully presented Carmel latte. I mean the latte was so beautiful that I was afraid to cover it with a lid. I did not want to even drink the latte. I wanted to take it back home and put it on display. The latte itself was amazing. The first sip was packed with bold and rich flavors. I did not need to add anything to this masterpiece. It was perfectly created by the barista. I didn't want to take away from the flavor, so I did not add anything else to the latte. Usually I'll have to add sugar and cream to my drinks at Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. Also, let me add this tip into this review. I just moved into this neighborhood, and the customer service at other establishments have been horrible. I have to say that This Establishment is All Inclusive. I felt respected at this establishment. I was treated like an equal here. All of the customers seem to be treated equally. The energy that went into making my latte was the the same energy that went into making another customer's chai tea latte. I don't take establishments like this for granted. We all deserve to be treated with respect, and I'm happy to know that places like this exist. It helps me to keep going. read more

They make amazing coffee. Original blended with lite bit of cream is the best choice. You can find easily parking on the side of the street or Irving park. Open during pandemic however with limited capacity due the social distancing. I will be back again. read more
