I liked this bar very much, it's so very Florida, the whole vibe, the decor, the live gators, the air boats, the views to the big lake. I ordered the Margarita specials 2x1, pretty tasty margaritas, and we walked around, we saw the sunset at the lake, They had some hurricane damaged so we just stayed in the bar area, they seem to be coming back and repairing the place. service was fast, and the bartender told us about what they had. they had a food truck outside that we could order food from, however we just decided had few drinks and left. I liked it and will definitely go back, maybe will bring friends that visit and show that side of florida. read more

Great drink deal, two for one margarita. The place is nice and quiet during the day. Good selection of food. We got Cajun Gator bites, you would not know it was Gator meat because of the Cajun spices. They have air boat rides which is a blast to do. There is also a restaurant nearby too. I love going to Black Hammock! We just recently discovered it and have come a few times. We've loved the 2-for-1 margaritas EVERY time! They are refreshing and well made. The food has been good - we've had burgers, sandwiches and my picky 9-yrs old has had tacos which she's loved every time. We love sitting at the bar area and enjoying the view of the water. The only problem with that is that the food comes from the restaurant and the drinks from the bar, so there are 2 waitresses and 2 checks to deal with. Seems silly but that's just the way it is. This also leads to slower than you'd expect service, but they are super nice. Overall, it is on my shortlist for burgers for sure! read more

The only thing good about this bar was the view. Arrived at the Lazy Gator (?) around 2 pm and although the bar upstairs inside had several patrons, the two bartenders were available. At the bar I told the woman bartender that the two of us were sitting downstairs outside for the view and I grabbed a menu. She said the food and the bar are separate, it would be two separate checks and that she would send a waitress and I wasn't able to order food from her nor drinks from the other. I ordered two beers and took them back downstairs to our table. After about 30 mins still no waitress I went back upstairs and was told she would actually send the waitress this time??? About 10 minutes later as soon as the waitress came into the vicinity (from 5 empty tables away) she asked if we know what we want to order (as though she wouldn't want to come back if we weren't ready) and I said yes and ordered. She advised we need to pay immediately and that the card reader was asking for a tip. (I asked how do we know how much to tip if we haven't gotten any service) and also I asked if she was going to come and check on us and the answer was NO, we order and they bring food and that's all. So we ordered (take out with delivery I suppose) and while waiting I went back upstairs to get another round of drinks. When I came back down I realized the tables were filling up but that the man bartender from upstairs was actually going to the tables and grabbing drink orders? Not sure what made us excluded and why I had to keep going upstairs to order? We overheard the same strange details being explained as the very first info that drinks are separate and the food would be handled by other department but he proceeded to come back and forth to all the tables (except ours) while we ate the mediocre take out food and I returned back and forth up and down the stairs for refills... while sitting enjoying the view among the 10-15 other (initially empty) tables I noticed signs about enjoying the margaritas at the lazy gator restaurant? I thought we were seated AT a restaurant... on the water...where we could order drinks and food but clearly that was not the case? I have come to the bar a few times over the years. I have eaten at the restaurant up top of the parking lot before. I have also done an airboat tour there before. But after this awkward visit with aloof, distractedly uncaring staff and mediocre food delivery by more unfriendly and bothered staff, we will never be back. This is definitely not a cohesive environment, no one is smiling and it felt like an 'us against them' vibe with me (the paying patron) in the middle. Don't bother. read more

I haven't been to the Black Hammock in years, it has been cleaned up and expanded from what I remember. It is real Florida, alligators and all! Sit out side and have a drink and watch the sunset. We didn't eat but the food we say coming out of the kitchen looked really good. There we several families and a few bikers, a mix of locals and tourists. Don't dress up - this is very casual!! The one issue I had is that the bartender wanted to hold my card to start a tab and gave me attitude when I didn't let her. Just as you don't know me - I don't know you. I am not going to hand over my debit card to a 20 something bartender. Now I know to bring cash if I am going to have a couple of drinks. read more

Well I've had enough. I used to come to this place to enjoy a little sunset and a few drinks or food. Today I brought my daughter up with the thought we would sit on the back patio out by the water and watch the sun go down. Unfortunately the evening was ruined by a couple of really rude people who sat there dropping F bombs every other word loud enough to hear across the lake. I went over the weekend for a airboat ride and stayed for the food. It was really nice meal. it was a lot of food. My Boyfriend got the gator tail bites and they were really delicious. If you're lookin for somewhere unique this is it. We were far from disappointed with this place trust me. The service is terrible in terms of time and attentiveness other than the bartender Kelsey who was the ONLY person who ever waited on us or even checked on us even in terms of food. She was the only person working the whole floor of the bar it seemed, cleaning, serving food AND drinks, and making sure everyone was taken care of. and her attitude was a plus plus lol she was great. I went to a bar 7 years back and thought this was the same one. We drove an hour from Daytona to get here, only to be greeted by a waitress who was miserable. She forgot a menu for one of the kids, we asked for one and had to ask a second time 10 minutes later. We ordered an appetizer before our meals. The gator bites were delicious but definitely not the 1/2 lb worth we paid for. 4 out of the 5 meals came out, the kids ate but my bf was waiting to eat with me. We waited 25 minutes before asking about my meal. The waitress said "I don't know" and walked away as if we were an inconvenience by being there. We asked to talk to a manager and he asked what would make up for it and he would let us hold an alligator for the wait. As soon as my meal came out everyone was finished eating. We had to pay full price for the kids meals and appetizer and left without the adults eating. No apology from the waitress, no heads up that it would take a little longer for my meal. Been going there for 50 years.A native institution. Had a super Fathers Day dinner with my family. We really miss the whole catfish served there for years.It was your signature dinner for us natives. Love this hidden gem! It was a gorgeous day so we decided to hike around the Black Hammock and Lake Jesup wilderness areas. Afterward we ended up at The Black Hammock Restaurant and the Lazy Gator Bar. We sat outside at the bar, which is right on Lake Jesup, and enjoyed the weather. We saw nine gators while we were there. The gator tacos were delicious but their food is expensive for what it is. The beer seemed decently priced though, and Sundays are two-for-one margaritas. read more

One of my favorite bars in all of Florida. The Black Hammock offers a variety of things for you to do including air boat rides and a great patio to sit back and relax at. The bar is located on Lake Jessup which is the most alligator infested lake in Orlando, but don't let that keep you from enjoying your time as you are plenty safe. In fact, when you enter you see a selection of gators in fenced in areas ranging from 6 - 10 feet. This things are beasts. If you haven't been, it is a must.
