One of the best places to stay in the Dells--hands down! My family has been coming here for over 40 years for the weekend getaway and we're so impressed from start to finish every time!! The indoor and outdoor pools are absolutely amazing--perfect for kids and adults alike. The outdoor pool has a super fun vibe, and the indoor pool is spotless and a great option for rainy or cooler days, or a night swim. The rooms were super clean -- genuinely well-kept and comfortable. You can tell the staff takes real pride in maintaining the property. Everything felt fresh and inviting. The management is incredibly friendly and responsive. From the moment we checked in with Brad (owner) we felt welcomed. They were happy to answer questions, offer suggestions on local eats and attractions, and really seemed to care about our experience. The location is ideal--just far enough from the hustle of downtown to be quiet and relaxing, but still super convenient to everything Wisconsin Dells has to offer. We were able to walk or take a quick drive to shops, restaurants, and the waterparks. Bonus points for the nostalgic charm of the property--it has that classic Dells feel but is updated and well-maintained. A perfect mix of retro and modern. We'll definitely be back. This past weekend was my first time back at the black hawk since I was a kid, over 20 years ago! I am SO happy we stayed here. As we pulled into the motel, I could feel my inner child coming out. The fact they kept this place exactly the same absolutely warmed my heart. They have definitely renovated, but kept the exact same charm which is rare, but so appreciated! We stayed in room 66 which had a king sized bed, huge jacuzzi tub, and a mini kitchen. Our room was so incredibly clean!! It smelled great. They provided everything you could think of in the kitchen for necessities. Everything worked great in the kitchen and loved that they even had a toaster. The staff is also wonderful. Every employee we encountered was so kind. They keep the whole property so clean. We saw staff outside frequently cleaning the property which speaks volumes how much pride everyone takes in this place. They have both an indoor and outdoor pool. We used the outdoor pool and what a flashback to childhood. Me and my husband had a blast for our pool day. Their arcade is great as well. I can't wait to go back next year again for my birthday!! Disappointed and Overcharged We booked a jacuzzi room for two nights to celebrate our anniversary. I became sick the first day, so we decided to skip that night and simply arrive on the second night, fully expecting to lose the cost of the first night. We had already paid in full. When we arrived, we were shocked to learn the entire reservation had been canceled--including the second night we'd planned to stay. Staff explained they had rebooked the room because we "didn't show up," even though we'd already paid for both nights. To make matters worse, they offered no clear policy explaining this, and my follow-up email asking for the policy has gone unanswered. Other local hotels told me they would at least call the guest before canceling and would never cancel a second night that was already paid. Instead, we had to pay for a completely new booking elsewhere--essentially paying for three nights to stay just one--while the hotel profited by reselling our room. We didn't want to argue on our anniversary, but this experience was extremely disappointing and felt unfair. I cannot recommend this property. read more

I've stayed at the Black Hawk Motel three times, and all the time there, it has been nothing but a great experience. The customer service is always pleasant and welcoming. Even the cleaning & maintenance staffs greet you. I really liked their upgrade on beds and furniture. Everything was pretty much like new. Most motels we've stayed at before didn't have the luxury mattresses or good furniture in the rooms. Definitely recommend Black Hawk to anyone, whether if it's family or individuals. Your money will be worth it. It truly is a budget place and on top of that, you get great service along with close proximity to all the downtown areas. They're also very accommodating. Check in isn't until 4pm. However, we got their early in the morning (10a M.) And asked if we could pick up our free zoo passes. Upon pick up, they gave us our room right away so that really helped us get settled in and have a place to rest vs driving around town with our luggage and resting at public places until check in time. This place is an incredible time capsule of the now vanishing old Dells. I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 90's and it's still just as impeccable as it was then. And it was old then too - this is a classic mid-century motor lodge. It's clean, it's affordable, it's the hottest tub in the midwest and there's legit good pinball. Mostly it's the attention to detail that does it for me here, but man it's nice staying at a well preserved relic from a different time. Property is in a great location to the downtown "hub" which has everything! The property is also right across the street from a gas station so very convenient. I loved how quiet the room was. We couldnt hear our neighbors and even with the door open, we couldn't hear the people at the pool. Check in was a breeze and we purchased our water park and mini golf tickets at the front discount for a good discount. My boyfriend and I have already made a pact to come back every year! We had a 3 queen bed room for four nights. Very clean, beds were comfortable, the staff was incredibly nice and professional (front desk and housekeeping.) The passes to the Timbravati wildlife park were great, along with the discounted Pirates Cove tickets. Easy access to a Kwik Trip across the street was nice. The pools, arcade and laundry room were clean. My only request would be to post the prices for washing and drying laundry. A great alternative for a quiet place to stay if you don't want a Waterpark resort. read more

This motel is kitschy, retro and unapologetically Native American in theme. Everyone who worked there was amazingly friendly. We walked in the check in door which dinged and someone helped us. Versus when we were at Kalahari they were waiting in three lines, 10 people deep. Our room was super clean, and how cool is it to have three queen size beds? We were in room 20 right across from the arcade games and the pool, I have no doubt that they put us there on purpose knowing we had two 12-year-olds and two 14-year-olds. They seem like thoughtful people like that. The one day the kids went over to the arcade and the games weren't on in so they went to the office to ask them to turn them on. Minutes later a guy drove up in a car with black hawk license plates and afterward they rambled on about this guy for hours. "He was just cool." Oh and the best part, they gave us a Kalahari indoor pass to go karting and climbing wall and more for all five of us for all three days we were there. This humored the kids for hours. And the rooms were $60 on a Thursday night and $75 on a Friday. A bargain! I highly recommend it! read more

Always a favorite when going to the Dells! Place is how a family vaca should be and it looks the same as when I was a kid at least the outside. It's clean and remodeled inside. Pools are warm and clean, place is great. Don't stay at those crazy waterpark places they SUCK. This place gives you free passes to water parks anyway. Fun and friendly owners. There is a reason this place is the #1 place to stay on trip advisor! U got me? My only beef with the Dells is they act like Disney these days, nickel and dime the s*** out of you. My wife and I have been visiting Blackhawk for four consecutive years. I originally picked them because of their very positive reviews. They live up to it. Brad and staff are very helpful with anything that we needed. The place is very clean and they have also done some nice remodeling lately. They modernized some areas but continue to maintain the classic motel look that I grew up with when I visited the now former Shady Nook motel in the 80s and early 90s. The people who visit there are very nice and many are returning visitors. There is an outdoor heated pool, indoor pool, game room, and a small outdoor playground for kids. Having an ice machine and grill by the pool is a plus too! They also fixed their Wi-Fi issues. If you are looking for an A+ two star motel with reasonable rates and great service, than this place is for you and your family. read more

My home away from home! My family has come here every year for an annual family getaway since the late 1960's. Rooms are clean, updated, and the staff including Brad and Tina the owners, are so nice and helpful. We absolutely love it here. Both pools and the hot tub are great and free water park passes are included. The game room is retro and so fun. This motel is away from the loud crowds and yet very close to shops and food. We found this place by by accident 12 years ago and since then have made it a point to stay here every time we visit the Dells which is sometimes 3 time a year. We enjoy this place so much we recommend it to friends and family when we are asked the best place to stay while in the Dells. In today's world of large hotels with massive water parks and stuffed in with hundreds if not thousands of other people this old school motel is as refreshing as it is cool. It's clear that there is a lot of care that goes into the upkeep because although being old school in concept the rooms are all fresh and modern on the inside. The rooms are always spotless and any issue at all is addressed immediately by staff, heck, the sweep the parking lot daily. Over the years we have come to know that this property is owned, operated and partially staffed by 3rd generation family members. The couple currently operating it are the Grandson and Granddaughter-in-law of the original owners. With an indoor pool, outdoor pool and free passes to the large water parks you will not be without options for swimming or chilling poolside. The room choices are amazing with everything from a small queen room to 3 queen rooms, king rooms, king suites with whirlpool tubs, cottages and even a two bedroom, two bath house. Cost wise? This is one of the more affordable and certainly The nicest, cleanest and quaintest motel in the area. read more

We stayed at the Black Hawk Motel for a one-night stopover while we traveled home from the Twin Cities to Chicago. This motel is a gem! Check-in was a breeze. Staff were very pleasant. We received a coupon book upon checkin; we used several of these coupons during our 24-hour stay in the Dells. The room was great. Everything was squeaky clean. The bed was comfortable. The amenities were plentiful. Parking was easy. The pool and hot tub were a welcome treat at the end of the day. It would have been nice, though, if the last hour of the pool hours were adult-only - it wasn't very relaxing with all those kids running, jumping and splashing about in the pool. I understand that the Dells are a great family vacation destination, but not all travelers are families. We also liked how close the Blackhawk is to the downtown area. It's only half a mile west -- very walkable. The next time we go to the Dells for a getaway, we will be staying at the Black Hawk. read more

Tried this place out with my fiance some time ago and they were not only very well priced, but extremely accommodating. The suite was cozy and comfortable, staff was great, and even gave a theme park pass. We added an extra day stay because we enjoyed it so much. We were able to walk down the street to visit the shops and restaurants with ease. Next time I have to be in Wisconsin for a few months I plan to revisit this place, because I'm confident it will be everything I need and more. read more

We will definitely be going back to the Blackhawk. We spent part of our honeymoon here after realizing the Wilderness was not the spot to unwind after wedding madness. We had the deluxe king room. We used the fridge, it was a little bigger than a dorm-sized fridge but it worked. There was also a MP3/DVD player, which was nice. They offer an outdoor and indoor pool. We utilized the indoor pool (which also includes a fun slide - I'm sure meant for kids only, but we still used it). The hot tub was nice. Overall the pool-room could use a little updating, but if you just want to go swim and you're not picky, it's fine. They also offered a fun game room with retro video games. It was nice to be able to play a little Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and kick my husband's buns) while sitting at the old-school console. Fun, in an up-north kind of way, and very low key. Overall we had a nice, relaxing stay here. It was very reasonably priced, and the staff couldn't have been nicer to us. The rooms were clean (although a little outdated - 60's - ish decor, but that's part of the charm). There's a nice little restaurant down the street, about a block away. We got a few coupons when we checked in for the restaurant, which was a nice offer. The Blackhawk is just far enough off the strip to be a relaxing place away from the usual Dells chaos. If you like the Dells but hate the tourist atmosphere, here's a nice place to stay and get away from the crowds. read more

We have been going to the Black Hawk Motel for years. When we call to make our annual reservation, they always remember who we are and ask how our year has been. It is a no-nonsense motel, with a nice outdoor and indoor pool, very clean rooms, nice bathrooms, refrigerators, DVD/CD/MP3 players and a nice selection of cable channels. Located at the end of the Wisconsin Dells strip, it is away from the heavy tourist crowds that walk around at all hours of the day. The staff is always very pleasant, polite and amiable. You also get a Wisconsin Dells Fun Card (valued at $10) for free, which is a nice perk to use for many 2 for 1 things. We used up a bunch of the offers and was able to save money. The rooms are spacious and have a table and chairs for you to invite friends over to play games in your rooms. There are also two deck chairs and a table for you to sit out and just relax. For the great price (our room was a king-sized bed for $90/night at peak of season), it is a terrific value for a weekend get-away. read more

Yeah it's a little Bates Motel on the outside, but inside isn't so bad though I wouldn't bring a black-light or anything like that. The perks... the staff leaves you alone, the rooms are a nice size, and it's moderately priced but that's about it. Why stay here then? Well, because it's right off the main strip and being able to walk instead of finding a parking spot in town (it's insane during the busy season) is so much easier. Plus they have an indoor/ outdoor pool and a game room (thought most hotels around here do). I really shouldn't mock it, I stay there a lot. read more

Another fan in favor of this WI Dells gem. You almost don't need to go to any of the other attractions even though they give you Noa's Ark and Tom Foolery passes. BHM features an indoor pool with slide and an outdoor pool with slide, hot tub and sauna (unfortunately wasn't working when we stayed.) The pool area is also open until midnight. Moreover, amenities include a playground, gameroom, tables in front of all doors, off the beaten path quiet location and reserved parking in front of your room. All the towels you could possibly ever need to use. The office has coffee in the morning and coffee makers in the room. I went w/ my sister and we decided to make coming here an annual event, so we'll be back. read more

Just left the dells again And stayed at black hawk again and i remember why i keep coming back . The rooms are squeaky clean the property is too and it's nice And quiet. My husband and i prefer a quieter motel over a over populated resort . We get free tickets to Noah's ark so after spending the majority of our day there it's nice to come back to some tranquility . It was definitely above my expectations. A friend and I rented a "King Budget" room (room 5 to be exact) to stay in while we explored Devil's Lake. The upkeep on this place is excellent, and it's very clean. Everything in our room worked great, and it was very quiet and peaceful at night. Last, but not least, every person on staff was very friendly and helpful (I wish I was better with names, but I'm pretty sure one woman was an owner). My only very slight disappointment was that there was no Continental breakfast to go with the coffee (which was also good). Nonetheless, this will be my first choice next time I'm up that way. read more

Surprisingly decent hotel, actually. A large group of us (7 guys) stayed here last weekend. The first night, we stayed in a "room" which was actually a 2 bedroom house with both queen size beds and a bunch of pull-out couch beds. It was pretty cool, although the water pressure in the shower sucked. The second night, we switched to a pair of large regular rooms. The water pressure was much better here. The rooms had mini-fridges in them, which was nice for storing some beers. Price was pretty good and the front desk guy was nice enough. My only real complaint was that the A/C was insanely loud. read more

Just spent the weekend here. Loved it! The welcome we received from Angie upon our arrival Friday was so warm, welcoming and personal. The rooms here are spotless. The property is clean, well kept, beds comfortable and it was a little bit like I was stepping back into my childhood. It just gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling staying here. So close to what you want to do in the dells yet just a few blocks out so you are not in the midst of the crazy the Dells can be in the summer months. When I was a kid, motels were a staple of my family vacations. Today, my kids are spoiled with big resorts/hotel mentality. When we pulled up my 15 & 12 year old boys looked at each other like "what the heck". But the charm of this place won them and my wife over quickly. This place is great! From pulling up our car to the front of the room, my kids were shocked at the ease of dragging our luggage to the room. Speaking of which the room was large and clean. In fact, it felt larger than most hotels we stay at. The pool areas are simple but fun. What blew my kids away was the fact that we sat on the chairs outside the door and had conversations with multiple neighbors. Another major draw I was how quiet this place was. No kids running up and down the hallway or people stomping on the room above. And we did NOT hear any noise from any neighbor or cars. The benefits of this place or also great. Free passes to Noah's ark as well as unlimited ride passes to the Kalahari indoor theme park. We're leaving soon to spend the rest of our trip at the Kalahari but I will tell you I will MISS this place. The only criticism I can place is that I wish they had more pillows in the room. I went to the check I. Desk but no one was there. But I did walk in at 11 pm so I give them a pass on that. Great place and will make this a go to place for future vacations here. read more
