Service guys were top notch. I was there for an event and had damage to my bike. The service guys managed my expectations but also did their best to make sure i was able to get diagnosed timely. That was very much appreciated. THEN the positive feelings fell apart because as i was talking to the service guys, a sales guy overheard and approached me and stated, "instead of going through all of that headache, why don't you just trade your bike in for a new one". I actually thought about that but was hesistant because i didn't want to get taken advantage of with my trade. My bike is a 2016 CVO Street Glide with about another $10,000 in upgrades. It had critical motor failure but (and here is the funny part), it had a full warranty so, the engine was going to be replaced, not just repaired. The sales guy knew that but still "his boss" (Made it a point to state it wasn't him coming up with this number) offered ten grand for my bike. I laughed and thanked him for wasting two hours of my time and insulting me. i hauled my bike home, had my local dealer put a new engine in it under warranty and was offered $27,000 for my bike by my dealer. If you have service needs, the guys are top notch. Sales? Well, they aren't any different than your typical cheesy sales guy but i'd go elsewhere given the choice. Bought the Extended Warranty when I purchased my new 2022 Road Glide. What a mistake! Made modifications to my motor so I decided to cancel my Warranty. Sent in my Cancellation Request and nothing. It has now been 4 months. Asked Harley to follow up and they said they could not help me because of the Ownership Change of the Dealership. I called CNA (Warranty Company) and they said they mailed a check but to the wrong address. CNA said they would Stop Payment on the original check and mail me a new one. Still no Check. 1)Harley should support what they sell even if their was and Ownership Change. Does this mean all Warranty claims made for bikes purchased from Prior Owners will not be honored?? 2)Rapid City Harley should not sell CNA Extended Warranties, They should sell Warranties that do not let someone hang. read more

This is not a good HD Dealership or maybe it's the salesman not the place to purchase a $30k+ bike from. 80th Rally week, sorry I purchased a motorcycle here thought it would have been something special and memorable being the 80th Rally Anniversary, but realistically should have spent the money with a local dealership, my bad. I saw a bike I liked, asked the salesman what was their best price is came back with a price, I agreed. The trade in was ridiculous, I'm keeping my bike now I have two. Told my saleman I wasn't crazy about the seat and sissybar can it be subbed for something else, he said once the Rally sale settles he would get something out to me, friends even heard him and felt the salesman was blowing smoke. Meanwhile spent the whole day waiting and my friends also waited too, true brothers. Honestly the bike I rode there was fine. Wow, how hard is it to close a sales deal. This place would not even help with shipping my other bike home, they only gave me a number to call. Anyway finally got through the paperwork, I'm brought to my bike, it was dirty my friends had saw the mess before I arrived back from all the paperwork and asked the kids who were cleaning the bikes if they could do a better job. When I finally arrive they had swapped the seat and removed the sissybar, but did not reduce the price nor offered me something to compensate me the removed parts. They gave me seat strap in pieces off the bike. Now its late in the day I'm burned out and friends are giving me the stink eye, for wasting there day. My friends were cool though because they knew I wanted the bike, I really did not need the bike, sales knew it too, perhaps that's how they got over on me. Even my friends new the salesman (Bill Ashton) had taking the better of me still looking for several of my fingers after I the handshake! I should have known this was a scam sale, nothing special for 80th Rally here, as soon as I was in on paperwork salesman Bill Ashton was gone avoided me like the plague. When I asked him about the parts he said, "you said I didn't want them". OK so I didn't but does that make it right to remove them and still charge for them? The bike bike was priced at $33k. Then when I asked him about making things right, Bill's reply was It will come out of my sales money, I will have to pay for it" wow full price $30k and he's worried, one of the easiest sales deal he ever had. $3k for a seat and sissy bar (removed). Again he said he would make things right after the Rally sale settled. . 10/2 months to day I reached out to Bill Ashton saleman, said he was just getting ready to follow up on the sale. Months late never heard from him until sometime November, he had been busy with sales deals. He did say he would throw me a t-shirt I asked for a hoodie and can you get me some pricing on a luggage rack, t-shirt never came through nor did pricing to date it's now 1/21/2021 Xmas came around, got a card and a referral request, $100 for every refferal. Hell they did not even send me a stinking Tshirt, and I'm going to trust him or them $100 dollars or so. After all Bill did say his management told him to take the parts off the bike, so who do you believe??? While I was there I met Julian Carlson who was selling bikes for Harley. I wasn't in the market for a bike at the time but Julian took the time to show me some of the new bikes and explain the features. Julian even went inside and helped me search for a hat I was looking for. It's Rally week, so of course this place is packed. They have vehicle only parking and a path for bikes to follow with parking attendants to assist with parking in the huge dealer lot. The vendor selection is large and most of the time you can get a good deal. I enjoyed seeing all the different vendors and purchasing some upgrades for my bike which were installed within 2 hours. Although we didn't plan on purchasing a new bike, my sister in law walked out the proud new owner of a Rocker C. The buying experience is a well oiled machine - she was in and out within 45 minutes. I've never purchased a bike or car that took less than 4 hours of endless haggling and massive amounts of paperwork. She told the sales guy what she was willing to pay and within 5 mins he came back and said he manager said it's a deal. Now that's a buying experience that all dealerships need to take note of. We are willing to drive 700 miles from home (KC) to purchase another bike based on her stellar experience. read more

This is probably the biggest Harley Davidson in South Dakota and it was well organized, had lots of product selections, a rental office, a parts department, and a service department! We came into pick up hubby's poker chip and decided to rent a bike while we were in town and ride out to all the other Harley Davidson stores and we were tickled to find there is a Harley Davidson motorcycle map/routes for all those motorcycle enthusiasts!! Well I should've known, besides Sturgis South Dakota is only the city to host the biggest bike rally around the world! Geez, what's wrong with me?! The bike we rented was a glide and it was a very nice ride and it had all the bells and whistles!!! The seats were nice soft leather and there were compartments that fit helmets and rain gear and then some! We enjoyed the rental throughout South Dakota and plan to do it again!! Bike rentals come with helmets and rain gear, insurance through your own personal bike insurance or you can add insurance with rental. If you use your own personal insurance the rental will need a copy of the policy and confirmation that the bike we do not own will be covered. The clothing items and prices were consistent with what the other Harley Davidson stores had but Black Hills had a lot more to choose from and many more products other than clothes like hats and boots, mugs, and board games, metal garage plates and hand bags, sunglasses and pet accessories too. This place is huge. The employees were great. We bought some sunglasses, shirts and a hat along with other fun souvenir kinds of things. When we got out to the bike to head out we realized there was a scratch on a pair of the sunglasses. We went right back in and they replaced them for us. Sounds simple enough however the glasses we bought was the very last pair of that style on the floor. They went in the back to try and find the exact pair we had just purchased. After a little while they came back out with the very last pair in the building. We could've just exchanged them for another pair but we took our time trying on and looking at other glasses and really really liked this particular pair. And they were going to do everything they could to get us them. They were even willing to order themAnd send them to our home. That wouldn't have done us any good since we needed them that day. Had some service work done on my front end. Bike left the shop with 25 lbs air pressure and the metal valve stem cap was missing. The put more air in the tire and put a plastic cap on the valve stem. Traveling through black hills from Connecticut my 2019 Tri Glide was loosing transmission fluid into the primary. We called Black Hills HD asked if they could change fluids for us and correct the levels while we limped back to Colorado. Pete Holbrook said bring it in and they would take a look at it. Nate Smith contacted Harley and got authorization to make the repair under warranty so we wouldn't have to cut our trip short. We were back on the road by 5pm happy to have our bike fixed. My Harley had mechanical issues during Bike Week. I contacted AAA and it was towed to Black Hills Harley Davidson for repairs. According to Repair Order Invoice, BHHD removed the primary cover, clutch release cover, removed exhaust, readjusted clutch, replaced an o ring, gasket clutch cover, bracket assembly, oil and then said it all looked good. I was charged $477.93. I inspected my Harley and did not see any signs of fingerprints in the dirt covering the primary. On returning home, it was leaking oil and I made it to Wisconsin before my Harley broke down for good. I had it towed home. I trailered it to the local Harley Davidson for repairs at a cost of $1011.10. It looked as though the primary was never removed and the clutch was not readjusted. The drive gear splines were sheared off. They had to replace the primary, gear, bearings, seals, rings, gaskets. I feel Black Hills Harley Davidson did not remove the primary and repair my motorcycle as stated. read more

The review is based purely on customer service. I called and left multiple voicemails with service department and not one call back. The reason is, "so many calls." It isn't the customers' job to work out how you answer high call volume, it is the dealerships. The other issue is I am a local. My maintenance and repair needed was about $850 or so and an easy service. Long after and long before Sturgis I will be around. I didn't need a service date TOMORROW, I understand the work load, just a call back and a date at SOME POINT would have been perfect... I moved on, on to a local repair shop that answered and scheduled me for the next week. Reminds me that some corporations get so big they lose touch with the core of their business and what it was founded upon. Bummer! read more

I arrived at Black Hills HD, taking a break before continuing to Sturgis. Got ready to leave and bike wouldn't turn over. Pushed to service area. Got right in diagnosed immediately. Found out part is back ordered from factory. Chad at service is awesome. Found part and got it wednesday bike was fixed. Chad and Ron and all service staff were great. Was lucky enough to rent an Ultra for two days. Rygell and Taylor were awssome. Very helpful and genuinely polite which was surprising onsidering the ammount of disgruntled people I saw them deal with. Thanks to Black Hills HD I was able to enjoy all the great rides and my trip was not wasted sitting around waiting for my bike. I'll be back. read more

This is not the place you want to go to get your bike serviced. I went there during the rally and was totally disappointed at the quality of the repair. I had a stator replaced on my Ultra, this is not a difficult repair. The bike was returned to me covered with oil and anti seize compound on the primary cover. Also the wire ties were not timed and the stator wires were not secured to the frame as they should be. In addition the shiftier lever was not adjusted correctly, and the footboard bolts were loose. Clearly the guy just threw the bike together and moved on to the next repair. Yes all of these things can be repaired when I get the bike back to my shop, but after paying $129 per hour, and billed for a 3.5 hour repair, (which couldn't have taken more than an hour) I expected a professional repair. read more

In August 2018 on my way to Sturgis the motor on my 2014 CVO started severely knocking. I had the bike towed to the Black Hills HD dealership. I was told I had a complete engine failure. The service manager told me that my main bearing was shot and I had metal shavings in my motor and I needed a new engine to the sum of $7800. I was taken in the shop to see the bike and I was shown the crankshaft sensor which was covered with metal shavings and it looked like a huge mushroom. I decided to rent a U-Haul and bring the bike home back to Illinois and have my dealership do the repairs here. My dealership found no metal shavings in the motor and basically told me that the Black Hills dealership tried to screw me over. The end result was a lifter going bad which could have been replaced in about a day and a half for about $600. This wasn't a simple case of misdiagnosis. This was an attempt to defraud me out of $7800. They completely covered my crankshaft sensor with metal shavings, which I feel could be considered a criminal act. My concern is that I was not the only bike with a complete engine failure during the week of the rally. I was one of TEN bikes that had been designated as complete engine failure and needed replacement. Are there others who could have had the same issue and were taken for an unnecessary engine replacement. I have all documentation to verify my statements above plus a witness to every conversation that took place that day and I have kept all of my engine components that were replaced. I truly got screwed out of a weeks vacation at the rally and other unnecessary expenses due to their deceptive business practices. I did speak with Terry Reimer the General Manager of Black Hills Harley two months ago and since then he has not returned any of my phone calls. I will not spend another dime with this business. read more

Showed up without appt, not only did they take my bike in with 1st priority when they were obviously busy, but they got me into rental and riding off in 15 minutes. Being ignored, multiple attempts at trying to resolve this. Still no parts, nor information on the loan category, or warranty. Jul 26th 2017, Alex purchased his first 2012 Harley Davidson CVO Road Glide. After having the bike for 6 months, we had realized that we never got any loan paperwork, nor had any payments came out of our accounts. Jul 30th 2017, on Alex's way home back to MN the bike broke down. Harley came and picked up the bike 13 miles west of Sioux Falls SD. They brought the bike initially to Sioux Falls Harley Davidson. Then Black Hills Harley Davidson went and got the bike from Sioux Falls Harley to bring back to their shop to put in a new motor with all new parts. Jan 2018, I decided to figure out why we have not received anything in regards to the financing of the bike. I called Black Hills Harley Davidson. We eventually got transferred to Lana who was in charge of the financing I assume. After Alex okayed her to talk to me, I had explained to her that we hadn't received any paperwork or anything for the loan on the bike, nor had we received the plates for the bike. She then said that she "had placed the misplaced the paperwork on her desk somewhere and would need to now file all new paperwork". She then mailed us the loan papers for Alex to sign and send back. Which we did immediately. The loan for the bike was then started. Spring/beginning of summer 2018 we still had no plates for the bike. We then called Black Hills Harley again to see what was going on with the plates. We were then advised, unlike MN, that in SD they do not pay for registration so it was not added onto the loan like we had assumed and that they had then sent the registration to Freeborn County and that we could get it there. Towards the end of the summer when Alex finally was able to get some vacation time to get down there, the DMV advised us that they had sent it back to Black Hills Harley Davidson. May 2018 the bike broke down again. This time Zylstra in Elk River MN came and picked up the bike from our home and fixed the starter in the bike and delivered it back to us. We then called Harley Davidson Black Hills to try and figure out what was going on with the plates as we still have not received them. They apologized for all the miscommunication and stated that they would then cover the cost for registration. They would be sending us papers to sign and get them back to them and then we would receive the plates for the bike. We received the papers a week or so later, signed them and then sent them back. Jul 25th 2019 we brought the bike into Blaine Harley Davidson as we were advised that the two year warranty would be up the following day. (Even though it should have been through Jan 2020 since they did not file the loan until Jan 2018). Blaine Harley Davidson advised us nothing was wrong with the bike and sent it home. A day later we noticed the same sounds that we had initially brought it in for happening again. We parked the bike for the season and figured we would dig into it over the winter while Alex was laid off. Over the winter of 2019/2020 Alex tore the bike down only to realize the noise was coming from the lifters and the cam plate. (Which were supposedly replaced brand new in 2017 when it broke down the first time). Jan 2020 We learned that Harley Davidson had flagged Alex's credit stating the bike was "in a natural disaster". We were highly confused as it had not been. I then called the financial Harley Davidson. They advised us that we had to file a complaint with the Harley dealership complaint corp. We called them after telling them everything, they then advised us that we needed to reach out the dealership directly as this is all a dealership mistake and not a "Harley Davidson" mistake. Feb 20th 2020, I called the owner/general manager of the Black Hills Harley Davidson dealership. He then stated that he would look into the natural disaster situation, figure out if they indeed did replace the lifters and cam plate like they should have, as well as work on trying to track down plates for the bike.Mar 2nd 2020, he then called me back. He said the natural disaster was "just a warning that the bike could have possibly been affected however it was not actually supposed to be dinging Alex's credit". I said okay and that we would reach back out to our financial advisor and ask her to run it again to see if it had been fixed. Then he stated that he was out of the office currently but once he got back in that he would check that if the "cam package" they put into the bike came with new lifters and get back to me on that. He also stated that I could call Lana back during business hours and she would get us the plates for the bike.Mar 9th 2020, I then texted to ask for updates in regards to the cam and lifters. I went in for a last minute oil change during the Rally, so I expected a long wait. I decided to get a couple of other things done, nothing major but was quoted a price that I could live with. Well, it wasn't as long as they said it would be, so that was good but when I went to the window to pay, I was floored by the price! I was all set to be pissed & was getting ready to huff & puff when the service manager, Andrew Kennedy came up and held up his hand & said "I've been briefed, I get it, how does this sound...?" and he gave me a price that was better than I originally quoted! Visited the Black Hills for the first time in 40 years. Had a problem with my 06 Street Glide, Lost all electrial power and bike would not start. This was during the 71st Annual Sturgis Bike Week. They had my bike longer than I would have like, they were very busy. They replaced my battery and spark plugs and the prices were better than my local dealership in Southern California. Recently while taking part in the Hoka Hey 2018 10,000 Mile Motorcycle Challenge I was injured and was unable to continue the remainder of the ride. I was making a plan on how i was going to get my Motorcycle back home to San Diego. Me being a Harley man I called Black Hills HD and talked with Lana ( very professional and compassionate) lady that helped me through the process. I had my 2016 Road Glide towed to Black Hills HD and they safely stored it there until after Sturgis. I had my gear bungeed to my motorcycle and they unloaded it from my motorcycle and UPS shipped it to my home. Black Hills HD kept me in the loop via email and a phone call from Lana. I took my bike to BH Harley for some work , it's an older bike in running condition. It had a bunch of simple things needed repaired new tire, bushings. Ect... before the guy even got it inside he's going should be $1000 maybe $2000 and I was like I'm Not asking you to rebuild my bike. Just this and that. Bottom line told them not to do anything if the bill was going over a certain amount. They called me to say what I needed done would be at least $1400!! they had my bike for 4 days did nothing to it but seize the brake and then we're ganna charge me 260 + $ for nothing!! I told them I'll take my bike I'm not paying that for you to have done nothing to my bike. They decided to only charge me for an hr... labor . Brought it to another local bike shop that day , owner of that shop called me the next morning before noon to tell me my bike is done.....and was only $ 460. Something smashed my head light on a trip to the Black Hills while going through Minnesota. Thought I could get it fixed at the HD dealer in Sioux Falls. Nope. No headlight there. And no light bulb either so I would at least be legal. What kind of HD dealer doesn't even have light bubls? Called Rapid City and of course they had head lights in stock, several versions that would fit my 97 Sporty. Got there, they took the bike right in, replaced the head light and done in about an hour and a half for about $100 bucks. Easy to deal with, quick service, great couches to wait on. read more

Purchased an older high mileage bike in January 2016. Since it was snowing at the time, they trailered it to my house. New tires and fresh fluid change before going to sales floor. What I didn't expect was for the charging system to go kaput a month later. They came and trailered the bike to the shop for diagnosis. Besides the faulty charging system, a few more small repairs were identified totaling 1200.00$ I was shocked!! I spoke to the service manager Andrew who listened intently to my plight that I didn't have the $$ to pay for the repairs and that the only Harley I could afford was a 20 year old high mileage machine. Andrew then went to confer with Kelley the sales manager. After a short meeting together Kelley agreed that the sales dept would pick up the tab although they had no obligation to do so since it was a used machine sold as is and no warranty offered. This is the 3rd bike I've bought from BHHD and certainly not the last. This is why you buy locally and not online. Andrew and Kelley stood by me and took care of me. Who does that anymore?? Was at Sturgis 75th anniversary, had problems with my charging system on my 2008 Road Glide, had to be towed in from Keystone. When I arrived with the tow driver and my bike I was taken back by the huge gathering of people and bikes. As we approached the service area there were staff people there to greet us and ask what was wrong and have me place my bike with the many other bikes that where waiting for repair, it would take at least a day before I would know anything about my bike. Of course here I was with no other form of transportation so they offered that I might consider renting a bike which to my surprise that they would even have any available. That process was smooth and quick. I got a call the following day that all that was wrong was a dead battery and my bike was ready. I picked up my bike and went riding with my buddy and soon found that I was having the same problem as I had the day before so I immediately rode back to the dealer before I would have to be towed again. They took me in right away because of my prior visit which was what I expected, I waited for the report on what was wrong and it came back within the hour, my voltage regulator was bad. I know had I taken my bike to my dealer they would of probably taken it for a test ride and found the problem the first time, but considering the amount of people going through there during the rally, I could see where that might of been difficult. The regulator was working when they tested it so why would they replace some thing I didn't need. They replaced the regulator and the bike has been fine since. To the credit of Black Hills Harley Davidson they were ready to care for all the additional customers that might need their service. This dealership forgets where their money comes from. They will let $500 walk out the door . I have bought 8 new motorcycles from what used to be a good dealer to work with, and they don't even know my name. The attitude portrayed by the staff is we" don't need your money"! All they want to do is take the local riders over the coals, and spit you out. Don't buy any used bike from here as the mark up and extra dealer fees are ridiculous! read more

On a trip to WY needed both tires replaced called in morning got us right in & also did a couple of safety recalls.....top notch sales & service!!!!! We're from Grand Rapids MN......Local dealer DULUTH doesn't compare unfortunately......bought bike & lots of gear and wont give us the time of day even if you tell them your going on long trip.....I've had service in Marquette MI & Black Hills Harley no problem even gave us a loner bike in MI.....Another shout out to Mandan, ND Rough Riders Harley for getting brother in-laws Harley back on road on a Saturday morning so we could make it home. read more
