These guys were absolutely fantastic. I had my truck stolen but when it was found the thieves took all the keys. Back in 2018 my DEF system went out when I was in Montana traveling. The diesel mechanics said they could repair it for $5000 or remove the DEF system for $1600. I chose to remove it. Now 2026 my truck was stolen and was recovered with no keys. No body in the area would work on it to get new keys cause of the missing DEF system, especially the Ford dealership. I went to Rapid Diesel and talked to them. They said they could take care of my problem of no keys and check the truck out for any other issues. They were great to work with. They notice that the brakes have been rode hard and desperately needed replacing which they did. They were very upfront with everything, no surprises. Next time I need diesel repair in Rapid City there is no question, I'm going to go to Rapid Diesel. I can't say enough good about them, they were great. read more

I'm from out of state and come to the Custer area every summer. This Year my F350 broke down on the way to camp. Had it towed to Rapid Diesel. It was at the shop for well over a month for a repair that should have taken less than a week. Parts availability was not the issue. I continually struggled to get updates on the status of the repair via email or phone. When the truck was finally repaired I received an invoice that lumped labor and parts together. I requested a more detailed breakdown and was told they don't do that. I checked with other repair shops in the area and none of them bill like that. This was a warranty issue and I couldn't even tell what parts they received from ford. The lack of transparency in a bill is concerning to me. I had to explain I needed the breakdown because it was warranty issue to get more info. A fact they should have known. On my way home I stopped to check for leaks under my truck and they hadn't even attempted any clean up of oil and fluids spilled during the repair the underside was covered with spilled fluids enough that a film of it covered my tailgate while driving. This place may be good for locals . But they didn't seem to interested in customer service or pride of work on my truck and I can only guess it was because they knew they wouldn't have to warranty any of their Job because I would be in my home state too far away to return. Water pump went out of my Chevrolet Duramax as I was nearing rapid city for the weekend. Glad they got me in and fixed up but with a bill of over 3000$ I asked if they really felt the need to rip me off that bad. Hopefully the mechanic that actually did the work gets to see some of that money. If you're in a pinch try and go elsewhere. read more

Had to go to Rapid City last weekend. Must have gotten some bad fuel in MN as my 1999 Dodge 3500 was running funky coming across SD. Stopped into Rapid Diesel Monday morning and asked if they could replace my fuel filter and maybe check truck for anything else that might be going on. (I had to drive back Tuesday at night and did not want to try that without having things checked out.) Kevin at Rapid was super friendly and made sure to get to it Monday. (Mondays are always busy days any place). They replaced fuel filter and did some other diagnostics, did test drive but found nothing else wrong. Real fair charges for work they did. Cummins ran smooth as silk the 9 hours home. Rolled in at 2:30am and I was really grateful they helped me out. I would highly recommend the place and just wish they were close to home! I recently bought a new Chevy Colorado Diesel and wanted an auxiliary fuel tank for it, specifically the Titan "Travel Trekker" in-bed tank. Rapid Diesel was listed as a dealer and I've always heard good things about them. They quickly responded to my request for quote and got the ball rolling. The "Travel Trekker" is plumbed into the main fuel tank with a built-in pump and a controller inside the cab. They did a great job installing it. Everything is super clean and professional. The tubing and cables are laid out cleanly with no excess, and everything looks solid. They placed the wired pump controller inside the cab exactly where I wanted it and it's "just there", as if it's a factory option. They stayed within the quote and didn't try to upsell me on anything. Just a good experience overall. I highly recommend them for aux (in-bed) tank installs and will definitely go back when I need other work done. read more

The crew at Rapid Diesel are Super Stars! We broke down over 100 miles outside of Rapid City and had to get towed in. After talking to 3 different shops we got booked in with Rapid. After extensive troubleshooting they determined we needed a new transmission. Fast forward 1 week, the new tranny arrived but they ran into a road block when they discovered a piece that they needed had fused itself to the old transmission. They conducted a nationwide search and found the part they needed and got us back on the road in short order. Rapid Diesel does seem to care more than Dodgetown, unfortunately we were a little disappointed in the work. The problem they were supposed to fix didn't get fixed and we are having problems with our truck again. They will probably charge again to look at the problem again. We do like supporting small family businesses, and they are better than Dodgetown. Hopefully we can get everything fixed though! read more

After getting severely ripped off by another shop in town (feel free to read my review of Eddie's Truck Center), we came here in hopes that the damage made by the previous shop could be remedied. We were traveling, with no where else to go, already frustrated and distrusting. If only we had come here first! They diagnosed the problem, fixed what the other shop failed to identify as the real issue, showed us the diagnostic report and clearly explained everything, they even cleaned out our whole fuel rail. When we picked up our previously struggling Sprinter van, it was running perfectly! No bullshit, no run-around, just good, knowledgable, honest service.
