My wife and I stopped her after the Van Gogh Exhibit that was at Camp North End recently. We were already enamored by Camp North End, but Black Moth Bars sealed the deal. Located in an Airstream Trailer in the shadow of the water tower, you can't get a better venue to sip amazing cocktails. I don't like cocktails. I'm a beer man through and through, but the Wasp on the Wall has changed my mind. This place must not be missed!

This place just reopened for the start of 2022 season and I couldn't be more excited!!! Delicious crafty cocktails served in a freaking camper. They have some pretty incredible and different flavor combinations that always result in something delicious. The specialty bourbon cocktail drink with egg whites was my favorite! Keep the cool funky glassware in the area and return it to them so they can keep on keepin on.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the experience we had. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty and it stayed that way the entire time we were there. Considering how large the space is and its placement within Camp North End, that was surprising. Looking over the menu, we quickly realized that many of the items recommended in previous reviews were no longer available. The menu has clearly been changed and is now focused mainly on burgers, sandwiches, and fries. On top of that, they were out of several ingredients and menu items, as well as a few beer options that were still listed on the menu, which was disappointing and made ordering feel limited. I ordered the Hell Raiser, a steak and cheese sandwich, which was fine. One of my friends ordered The Cure, a pressed ham sandwich, which was also fine. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. To be fair, there's only so much you can expect from a sandwich unless it's coming from a standout sandwich spot. Our server was enthusiastic about the fry sauces, so we sampled several of them. Despite the hype, none of them really impressed me. Overall, I wasn't thrilled with this place. Between the empty dining room, the pared down and partially unavailable menu, and the lack of anything truly memorable, this isn't a place I'm likely to return to. Honestly, given the overall experience, I was surprised to see that they're still open.

We were a walk in but were able to score a table outside which was perfect. The drinks are good and the staff members work as a team so there's not one primary waitress. I ordered a custom drink where I told the server what I liked and the bartender created something based on my likes. It was a "fruity" tequila based drink and I enjoyed it. We were given a bowl of complementary kettle corn to enjoy with our drinks. The music was a mix of r&b and hip hop and was loud enough to vibe but didn't overpower the conversations. Random Notes: Parking is validated and the hidden bathroom was so cute. The inside is perfect for selfies lol.

There's outdoor seating, and initially we wanted to sit outside but we didn't have reservations. Luckily, they seated us at a small corner section near the back of the bar. It's very cozy and intimate inside. Just my type of vibe. The service was top tier. They were unable to validate our parking because of some sort of discrepancy with the signage outside and lack of having the proper equipment for validation. To make up for it, they offered us complimentary champagne to start. We were not expecting that, and pleasantly surprised! Their menu has an eclectic selection of cocktails, both full and mini. We opted to order from the mini cocktail menu, and we each ordered two drinks. I had the Creepy cucumber cocktail and it was refreshingly sweet and probably my favorite drink of the night. I also ordered the Don't Shy Away which was a sour and spicy rum concoction with carrot in it. It was definitely spicy and had a puréed texture. I really enjoyed it. And, then don't get me started on the music!!! The dj was masterful. He played all the types of music I love and he mixed them in such a refreshing way. I ended up asking him for his contact information before leaving, and whether he does weddings because my fiancé and I are currently looking for a DJ. He was just that good. This would definitely be my spot if I lived here in Charlotte. It was the perfect way for us to end the night.

One was a small side Caesar salad which I got. I was disappointed in the continuing practice for restaurants to charge for small changes like this within informing the customer. Waitress was very nice, however and attentive. What is also quite unique about the restaurant was that you could order small 4 oz beers, just for tasting at $2-3 each. Two of my personal standouts are the Beetle Juice, which incorporates fresh beet juice, and The Fishbone, which brilliantly highlights their house-made aquavit. Overall, it's a wonderful spot for a great atmosphere and an inventive menu!

I visited in late July and had a Moscow Mule, the Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese, and the apple and cheese flatbread. The mac and cheese was delicious, but the flatbread absolutely stole the show. I love a good sweet-and-savory combination, and the Honeycrisp apples with brie and mozzarella were out-of-this-world good. Easily one of the best flatbreads I've had. The atmosphere was just as memorable. It's dark but warm, with a very intentional speakeasy feel. I especially loved the half-moon green velvet booths--they create such a cozy, intimate setting and would be perfect for a dinner date or a more elegant evening out. The staff were polite and professional, and even the way they were dressed felt slightly more upscale and added to the overall experience. I really enjoyed everything about my visit and would absolutely come back. Whether you're looking for a nice date-night spot or just somewhere with great food and atmosphere, I'd recommend it. And seriously--get the flatbread.

A Fun Start to the Night at Conspiracy…read more We kicked off our night at Conspiracy, and it did not disappoint! It's a genuinely cool bar with a variety of seating areas to choose from. We opted for seats right at the bar, front row to the action. Fair warning: there were a few patrons nearby who'd clearly gotten an early start on their day and seemed more interested in basic shots than in actually experiencing what the mixologists here can do. If that's your scene, there's a time and place -- just maybe look elsewhere for it. That way, the rest of us can sit back, relax, and watch these bartenders work pure magic for our taste buds. And magic is the right word -- the drinks were fantastic. We gave them a sense of our preferences, and they ran with it, nailing every choice. For my second round, they skipped the menu entirely and just built something straight from their imagination -- exactly what you want from a place like this. The one food item we tried, the goat cheese pesto dip, missed the mark -- wouldn't order it again. But honestly, we weren't there for the food. With cocktails that good, it was still a win all around.

There were several "reserved" tables that remained empty until after we had finished eating, so I think the restaurant could benefit from a better reservation system with more accurate buffer times to accommodate walk-in guests. To avoid the wait, we decided to sit at the bar, and I'm glad we did because the food was amazing. The fried chicken and waffles were perfectly seasoned, and the waffle had a unique texture and flavor that reminded me of a combination of a traditional waffle and a soft pretzel. The cheesy potato cake was absolutely delicious. The fruit bowl was also good, but I wish they had been a little more generous with the blueberry pudding. Luckily for them there are plenty of good options, one of which is The Free Range Bar! Free Range Brewing is one of the older Charlotte breweries that has been around since 2015 during the height of the craft beer craze. Due to their years of fostering a community, it is no surprise to me that they were able to open up a satellite tap room years later. This second location is smack dab in Camp Northend surrounded by plenty of patio seats outside, and featuring a quaint little barroom inside. This smaller tap room has a more intimate setting. The people working there are friendly and they have a variety of beers to try along with other beverages if beer isn't your thing. While I don't think this is a replacement for the original, it does a good job paying homage, and provides great beer options for Camp Northend. The bartender was great- patient, friendly and just the epitome of quality service! My drink was not crisp cold the way I like and when I asked for ice she told me they don't have any. Not a big deal, but still kind of weird to me.
