I just recently got tattooed at Black Palm Tattoo shop for the first time. I gotta tell you this place is an American Institution. I had a appointment with Derek. He was on time, courteous, not once made me feel belittled at all. I asked Aaron & Joey (owners) of the shop if I can use the bathroom. Politely said ok. Gender Neutral bathroom at that. Figuring its the only bathroom stall in the place. So had to figure out what pronoun I had to be to adjust my self properly before entering. After a 3 1/2hr tattoo session. I became to realize that all the employee's are very nice and gay. Gay in the happy sense. Place is awesome. Blue collar tattoo shop. Clean. Paid for my gruesome chest tattoo that Dereks light but effective needle work made it feel more like a acupuncture session. I said Goodbye. Gave everyone in the shop a fist bump. Choose my pronouns once more before hitting the restroom. Then went on with my life. Gave this place a 5 star review. Peta & Vegans please be aware. Beautiful animals displayed on these walls. Im from out of state and this was my first CA tattoo since living here. Not only was Pokey very perceptive of what I wanted but his tattoo technique was gentle. I have one other tattoo from another shop and the experience was nowhere near the same. Pokey was very kind, creative, and did a great job with my tattoo! my mom and i came in today to get tattoos from aaron. the tattoos came out beautifully, but while we were there, the artists were making offensive comments about trans people and discussing "the bathroom issue" very loudly. as a queer person, this made me feel extremely unsafe. regardless of quality, i do not feel comfortable receiving services from an artist that supports transphobic viewpoints. i don't recommend this shop for any other members of the LGBTQ community. read more
