Initial experience: I messaged this tattoo shop on through yelp inquiring about a tattoo that I wanted and received a response in less than an hour. Chris, the owner, referred me to Spider and gave me his number. I texted him and received a fast response. Spider asked me questions about my tattoo. I really like that he tried to understand the concept of my tattoo even if it was through texting. I sent him the two pictures that I wanted meshed together and that my tattoo concept was, "two things that I love the most: Halloween and Caramel (my dog)." He did a great job combining them. He sent me the rough draft the next day, and I loved it. So we scheduled an appointment for the next day. Tattoo: My tattoo took a little less than three hours, but time flew by because we were talking the whole time. I was really nervous about the pain. Like any tattoo, it was painful, but Spider has a light hand and put my mind at ease. I asked him what he specialized in and he said Japanese style tattoos, portraits, and I can't remember the last one. He's good at what he does, and I highly recommend him and this shop if you're interested in getting a tattoo. Over all experience and tattoo: I would recommend this shop to anybody interested in getting a tattoo. It was clean. Remember that it's quality over quantity and quality is not cheap. UPDATE: So a while ago I posted a negative review for this shop as I was extremely convinced that the tattoo I asked for was not what received . ( I will post what I wanted v what I got below). For the record the original tatoo artist was Jason, and for the record if you read this sir I still hope you step on a pile of red ants. Bare foot. Holding a cold refreshing cold beverage which you drop. From pain. F u. So I rant, post on yelp a complaint as Yelp is the real culprit here. I went to this shop based off the recommendation of yelp. Not word of mouth, or any impressive portfolio. Just local SEO and the algorithm deciding what's best in my location. For this, yelp you suck; you're over saturated, and your reviews are phony. Duh. My bad, I forgot it's 2025, stop believing media apps.duh. So eventually owner, Chris, responds stating that that's awful. He feels bad and that he would love a chance to make it right. I figure sure, why wouldn't I want to make the situation correct? Ultimately I go into the shop and tell him specifically the points I didn't agree with about the tattoo, and the points that I said I actually thought were impressive. He had decided overall the entire thing needs to be taken off and that's what he was going to do. Now I don't know this guy, but I've known a lot of people in my life, and my impression off the jump was that he's the type of person to come out the gates hard saying he can fix a problem, or find a solution for something, but he's probably not gonna do it. Give some time and he'll fizzle and not come through on his word. Overall, that's exactly what happened. I let him take the reins, and ultimately he decided that I'm too unappreciative for his offering of fixing my tatoo. The price to laser the tattoo apparently is more expensive than what I paid for the tattoo, and therefore I should be walking in with glitter shooting out my eyes with appreciation. On our first session personally I was not in a financial place to tip him, and I really didn't know if this was the type of situation to tip him. But after that first session, he's entire vibe changed and I really think it was because he did not get tipped. His vibe said, " what's in it for me." Vs "I'm doing right for the sake of right." Which is the type of person I usually do business with; ppl who go extra miles to make a customer happy. After ghosting me, and you know you were, six days no response, he then starts to bring up the word cover- up. As if the amount of sessions needed we were pursuing was ultimately moving towards a cover-up. This is so triggering to me because this is exactly why I flipped my shit the first time. Both these men decided to make decisions about what's going on my body without talking to me or getting my consent. This is not OK. If we were doing a cover-up, then we wouldn't have lasered the entire circumference of my ankle causing so much recovery on my part. We would have just done the minor edges and little things that I had talked about specifically to you like the rosebud and the banana leaf. Straight up Mr., I'm not appreciative because I didn't want more pain, so you are correct Chris, but bottom line if we were choosing a cover-up, this word should have been brought up when we first talked about the tattoo and what we're going to do in the future plan. The shop gets one star because they can't listen and for a woman's body in 2025----when she tells you what she wants and you guys make a decision about her body without talking to her and getting HER CONSENT FOR HER BODY changing the plan this is not OK. read more

Highly recommend American Vintage Tattoo and Chris De Armas in particular. I had two old tattoos that I wanted covered or incorporated into something new. Chris masterfully incorporated each one flawlessly into new designs. The old tattoos are still there but they're a part of something totally new and look amazing. It's officially been 6 months since I got this piece done (fourth edition to my sleeve) and now I can finally leave a proper review!!! Now, I've gotten most of my tattoos done both by Spider and Chris de Armas but this is the biggest piece I've had. Done by Spider!!! Huge creds to him as he's incredibly patient (my arm muscles kept twitching maybe two hours in). Overall it healed beautifully and I wouldn't change a thing about the healing process. If only I could give this shop NO STARS!!!!! I had spoken to Chris through Yelp and made an appointment for today at 5:00 with Spider. I was running a little late and called he said don't worry I've been running late all day today. I made it to the shop and waited till 7:15 to get help. I arrived at least at 5:25. I waited. He was not friendly at all from the beginning. This guy was acting like he was doing me a favor. You're getting paid duh?! He then draws up the drawing and he asks me if the name is spelled correctly while he is holding the paper , I am spelling it out loud. He then rudely hands me the drawing and says that's your responsibility. In such a rude manner. Customer service sucks! One be polite about it. If you didn't like me as a customer you suck it up because that's your job. It's not free. There was literally no interaction aside from him handing me the iPad to sign up. Please don't give him your business this guy thinks very highly of himself. The interaction I had with the owner through Yelp was so easy and informative. This only reflects what I experienced with Spider. I did ask for my deposit back and said I didn't want the tattoo. I walked the heck out of this shop. read more

I'm going to start by saying: Don't get me wrong I LOVE my tattoo. THEY HAVE GREAT WORK BUT CHARGE $100.00 MIN! It's a bit frustrating that clearly it wasn't worth $100. I truly would've preferred for it to be disclosed that the "shop minimum" is $100 prior to me getting my one simple finger tattoo so I could've at least gotten the heart and a small equal sign on my finger instead. Its beautifully done and the experience was easy and virtually painless HOWEVER, my tattoo wasn't even a square inch and we finished door open to closed in about an hour and most of that was me in the waiting area. Even if it was including the gratuity (which I still added on) it was overpriced. I got one minuscule finger tattoo for the price of the 2 I could've gotten.... would've loved the finishing quote when inquiring prior to sitting down. read more

My daughter just turned 18 and wanted me to take her to get her first tattoo. This is the first shop I thought of. I have been tattooed there a few times in the past, by Tyler who no longer works there, but it was always a great experience and the folks in the shop were very cool. That being said, this experience there with my daughter, was no different. I went into the shop to check out the current artists and to talk to somebody about my daughters tattoo. Jason was there tattooing somebody, greeted me, and helped me relatively quickly. I explain the situation, and showed him a picture I had drawn of a Scottish Thistle that my daughter wanted tattooed. He took a picture of the picture, so he could enhance and clean up the drawing, quoted me a price, then we set up the appointment and left a hundred dollar deposit. Fast forward to the appointment. Jason greeted us, showed my daughter the drawing of the thistle, We both loved it, and onto the tattooing. She got the tattoo on the back of her tricep. He made sure it was perfect placement and size. He made sure she was comfortable and went to work. She had a huge smile on her face and was super happy, and Jason made it a great experience. To preface: This review is not for the shop or the quality of my tattoo but rather for the individual artist that provides his services (which I suppose you can say is direct reflection of the shop itself). I went in for a last minute tattoo a few days ago while trying to kill some time before having to meet up with a few people. I called the shop, let them know what I wanted (a pretty simple design, nothing too wild) and they asked to see a few reference photos. From there, I was matched up with an artist and I went in for a quick session. I showed up and as I walked up to the shop, saw someone outside smoking on the chairs in front, and walked in to get it done. As luck would have it, the guy smoking would be the same guy doing my tattoo so for the next 45 minutes, I would smell cigarettes. Not a huge deal but still not very professional. To his credit, the artist is good. My finished design is nice. That said, he was in a bit of a rush as midway through my appointment, his friend walked in and asked him how much longer he had left on me. Not a huge deal but it did kind of leave me with the impression that he wanted to get TF out of there and I also ended up with a bit of a needle stroke that is out of place-- kind of like he went too fast and messed up a bit. I also have to mention that the artist had hands that looked a bit dirty; he wore gloves while needling but I have a few tattoos and haven't ever had anyone with hands like this. This wouldn't have bothered me except for when he finished, took the gloves off, and then uses a napkin to spread ointment on me and wrapped my arm with Saran Wrap. I'm not a doctor but all of the pathogen training I've had in the past tells me that this isn't really best practice. Pricing is fine; not cheap for 30 minutes total of needling (+15 min of applying the design to transfer paper). Total came out to be $200 before tip which, IMO, is pretty steep for what I got. In the end, this was a fine place to go for a spur of the moment tattoo but not a place I would go back to or recommend. read more
