I enjoy the variety of events that are ongoing through Black rabbit mead...there is something to offer on a weekly basis. I went for the Spring Fling Drag Show, which was a great time. Very festive and spring themed. I ordered a nonalcoholic drink it was a hibiscus flavor. It felt like springtime in a cup almost too pretty to drink. I would love to come back to sample the pies that I enjoyed in the time past or to try the G's food truck that was located outside of Black rabbit. As part of ArtTown, I went to Black Rabbit to see a bluegrass show. The bourbon and gin cocktails I had were terrific...very tasty with innovative ingredients. I had the beef Wellington meat pie. It was tasty but kind of greasy and could have had more meat in it. It was served with a cold cup of gravy that was excessively thick. The venue is good for live music. It is small. The seating in front of the bandstand had about 20 people seated there, but it wasn't packed. A cocktail server would have had me ordering more drinks, but having to get up and wait in line for drinks was a bummer. It was interesting to learn about the meads. I had a sampling of 4 and then chose the bourbon cocktail, then the gin. They did not have wine that I saw but otherwise had a full bar. Another fun night with friends at Black Rabbit. The bartender was very friendly. I tried Odin's black tea mead. It was lovely. My friend had a gin hibiscus gimlet that she said was delicious. Me and my partners go here often enough now to have started to be noticed by the staff. This should be a note on of itself on how friendly they are. I don't believe out of the many times I've come here I've ever had an issue. The inside is also very cozy, offering a few snug corners and open areas to converse. The summers here and very comfy feeling and the lighting always makes the mood. The drinks rotate from time to time and they have a unique taste to every one. They also have locale beers which is pretty cool to try out something made here. One of the big highlights for me is that they colab with a lot of performers and venues in town and seem to have events going on quite often, from drag to bingo night. Stopped by on Wednesday for Drag Bingo! First off - the bingo was fun and the queens were amazing. Vertigo - you're a new fave, babe. And all the money went to charity so win win! We grabbed two flights and they let us try all 9 flavors rather than only 8. I ended up loving the sasparilla flavor, pineapple jalapeño, pineapple beach one, and the april mead! They were the most delicious drinks. It was very fun to taste them all and very well priced. My mom got two hand pies, the beef wellington and cheesesteak - she loved both! U had a bite of each and they were delicious. The seating was minimal - for an event like this they definitely need more seating but we got a table and chairs! Black Rabbit is one of the coolest things about Reno Tahoe! To me it's a statement about who we are as a community, a group of people with reverence for tradition and history, a passion for local producers, and a strong desire to build on the past for a better tomorrow. That was a philosophical way of saying you need to go, and the messes they make are reason enough. My favorites are the classic "Church of Roger", the pineapple jalapeño "Hawaiian Ember", and most of their cocktail style meads like the "St. Johnny" and "Skadi Grey". They usually also offer a seasonal or two as well! On my last visit I also got to check out their "traditional mead" menu which features imports from meaderies around the globe. I had a fig mead from South Africa and it was a sweet wine style, high ABV, and a great little nightcap. This section is a bit more pricey but the meads are very unique, different from what they produce, and worth a try. They also offer cocktails with local spirits, beer from local breweries, a full menu of non-alcoholic beverages and cocktails, as well as a small menu of hand pies aka pasties! They're always doing cool events too, so there's usually something going on no matter what night you go. Their events range from live music and dancing to workshops and insightful and interesting lectures, so there's something for everyone. A few weeks ago I got to visit on a Sunday night and caught a lecture from some local paranormal investigators sharing stories of their experiences in and around the city! The place was packed and a mug of the warm seasonal spiced mead made for a great Sunday reset and date. How have I lived in Reno for this long and NEVER been to Black Rabbit? Hoping my blasphemy could be overlooked, we ventured over because we heard that 1x a month on Sundays they do a little family-friendly folk night event. I was a bit intimidated to bring my son...would it REALLY be family friendly? Would non family patrons give us the side eye? Would it be way too loud in there? Etc. But we ended up very pleasantly surprised! Right when we walked in there were quite a few other kids so we instantly felt more at ease. They even had a little toy section set up near the door away from the speakers and we were able to grab a seat right there. When we went up to grab a drink at the bar, I got a quick 101 on their menu and decided to try the Church of Roger, which is the base to many of their other flavors. They also had a wide variety of cocktails and NA options, and a few purée pouch options too for the kids, which I thought was a super cute touch! TBH the live music was still a littttle louder than I'd have preferred, but I guess that's a bit difficult to find a balance. Overall it was a fun time though, and as a new parent it can be hard to get out of the house at night. I really appreciated that this business, who let's be honest isn't what first comes to mind for a family night, really went out of their way to make everyone feel welcomed. Upon entering, the vibe was great - Colby greeted us with a smile and could not have been friendlier. There was chill music and Barbarella was on. I love coming to black rabbit meadery, especially on a cold winter day. It's such a warm and cozy ski atmosphere inside, lots of old skis and bikes hanging on the walls as decor. The famous warm spiced mead was amazing, such rich flavor and warmed my body all the way through! Perfectly spiced. They have a really fun and raucous trivia night scene as well. Fell in love with this Meadery while visiting in Reno around the downtown brewery district area on 4th St. They make cider style meads made with local honey and also gluten free. The taste is like a cross between beer and cider. They are delicious, light, and refreshing! Loved the ambiance. They had dim lighting, cool decor, cozy feel, with dark wood tables and red seating. They also had lots of cool games and board games around the place to play. It wasn't that busy when we arrived. So service was pretty quick and super friendly. The meadery is so cool! I always forget about this place when I'm thinking of a spot to hang out but I regret not coming more often. It's intimate, swanky, yet inviting and the drinks are home brewed and delicious (and gluten free!). If you've never had mead, I think it tastes similar to kombucha - light, effervescent, mildly flavored. And they do sampler flights for around $20. First time at this place as part of a Yelp Elite event. One of the owners, Jake, gave us a tour of the Meadery and we sample the mead on each of its stages as well as the final product. The tasting room is really nice, pretty ample with lots of seating and they also have a patio area. I tried a Mt. Coropuna which is a blueberry, lavender & lemonade mead. Super tasty and it was definitely one of my favorites. I also order a flight with 4 different ones (Church of Roger, Rosemary Black, B.L. Bliss and Summer or 1864) All 4 had their very unique flavor but my favorite was the Summer of 1864. If you like whiskey then you must try this when you visit! It was Friday night. My boyfriend and I were on a double date with parents who had an overnight sitter and we weren't ready to call the night quits! A quick search of the area after dinner at Record street brewing showed Black Rabbit Meads was having a Jazz night. We darted across the street and found ourselves in Black Rabbit Meads. Menus were on the tables, so we sat ourselves away from the live band. We had just been sitting under a speaker at dinner (our own poor choice of open seating) so we wanted some space between us and the music so we could talk. The music was still loud, but the venue was small and relatively empty. We sat against the wall separating the front area from the back area. My boyfriend and I each ordered our own mead, and our couple friends ordered a flight to split between them to decide what they wanted to drink. I chose the Rosemary Black. It was a delightfully interesting flavor. The best flavor profile I can liken it to, and I mean this in the best possible way, it was like a watered down Dayquil. I love the flavor of that, so for me, the Rosemary Black was perfect. One of the meads on the flight was "Brewer's choice". Whitney and Lance did not really care for the flavor of it nor the after taste. I took a sip and that too was amazing. Lance went and asked what it was, and it was revealed to be a Strawberry Rhubarb mead. I will definitely be having a glass of this next time we go. We all ended up having a great night, enjoying the ambiance and each other's company. 10/10 recommend mead if you haven't tried it! read more

The Black Rabbit was recommended to me by a friend, so I decided to try the place while I was downtown. The bar manager, Colin, was very pleasant, professional and proficient greeting me and offering some samples before ordering. I tried his favorites, the Hucklebearer , with huckleberry and a touch of vanilla, yummy, and the Summer of 1864, a whisky punch-ish mead. Very delicious!! The place was started by two high school teachers who wanted to bring the first meadery to Nevada. The place is decorated like and old English pub. It is clean, spacious and friendly. I actually received a tour of the on site brewery and explanation of the complexity of the different meads. Mead is the first form of alcohol as it is made from fermented honey. The place will have a big party on Saturday to celebrate their fifth year anniversary. Congratulations! There is free parking on site.
