What can I say? As far as coffee chains go, Black Rock Coffee Bar is one of my favorites. I've visited several BR locations, and each time, my experience has been positive. They serve great coffee, delicious treats from Too Sweet Cakes, have reasonable prices, and friendly staff. My go-to is a honey cinnamon oat milk latte. BR consistently makes it just right and this location was no exception. The staff here was also warm and welcoming. The interior is bright, spacious, and offers plenty of seating. Great modern coffee shop in Gilbert and even better staff... I was in town for the weekend and Black Rock was recommended by a good friend that lives in the area. I got a Caramel Truffle at the suggestion of Christian who works there and I'm glad I listened to him. It was really good. I ordered mine blended just as Christian suggested and I definitely recommend it. Caramel sauce and rich chocolate milk essentially making one of the best caramel mocha blended drinks I've had. Good stuff. Located on Gilbert Road adjacent to a gas station. They also have bagels and pastries. Some non-caffeinated drinks are available as well. There are several tables and some stool seating by the window. Restrooms available via code entry... Decent music is played throughout as well. That's always a nice touch. Drive-thru is available and when we went a 2nd time, Christian was there and he recognized us. Really good customer service from him. He's a natural and we appreciated it. The drinks I had in the large size (White mocha chiller and root beer white mocha chiller) tasted very dilute and while the actual coffee and milk tasted good together it was hard to discern any additional flavor. I did also get a medium sized drink (Blackout) which had a balanced amount of sweetness, hazelnut and mocha flavor, coffee and cream. First time at Black Rock, but I had to check it out as it's so close to me. This new location is super convenient if you're in the McDowell Mountain area of North Scottsdale. The staff were very friendly and chatty similar to Dutch Bros, and they seem genuine unlike the non friendly experience at Starbucks which I rarely frequent anymore. I ordered my usual drink of hot chocolate with almond milk no whip cream that I always order at coffee places. It was good and had an adequate amount of chocolate for flavor. The menu looked interesting with a nice selection of drinks and food offerings. I wish I could have tried some but being a gluten free vegan really limits my food choices. I arrived early so the drive-thru was clear and the broista taking my order was welcoming and friendly. I remember when I lived in Oregon and black rocks started popping up there. When I moved back home, there was only black rock in stores and it was hard to find. I'm happy to see they are in Arizona now after about 3-4 years. One day I went in with some friends and didn't order anything because I had had my own drink with me. It was a canned matcha drink and it ended up being not very good. It was vegan and it had protein in it and I wanted to try it out. The only reason why my drink that DID NOT come from black rock matters in this story is because I went up to the counter to ask if I could possibly have a cup half full of milk. I was willing to pay for it but they just gave it to me. I hoped that I could drown out some of the icky flavor of my drink with the milk. It worked pretty alright. I'm thankful that they were kind enough to do that for me even though I hadn't purchased something. And it was free. They are super cool there. Just another "meh" coffee place. First time trying it and I made sure to say that too. I went out of my way to go there, even though there was road work out front on the main road. It looks like a cool place but most all of the food was sold out (about noon when I went). The coffee isn't too bad, I got an iced Mexican Mocha. But for going my first time, it's enough lackluster available items and average customer service that will make me avoid it in the future. The person who served me at the drive-thru seemed uninterested in customer service or even working there. If you want to stand out, it can't just be with good coffee. There are thousands of coffee places these days. You have to bring something unique to the table with a good buying experience (like awesome customer service). And if you find you sell out of items before the earlier part of the day, buy more stock! Overall, pass on this and get your coffee elsewhere. read more

Music was thumping and I wanted to start dancing, even before I ordered coffee, on a Monday morning after a holiday weekend! We were pleasantly greeted at the counter and he guided us through the iced coffee options. Thankfully, they did have large sizes to choose from. We opted for the iced Americano, which totally did it for us. The decor is very tasteful and airy. They have a garage door wall which was open, letting in some fresh air. Seen a few of these coffee shops around the Arizona location, so of course I needed to try one. The blonde girl working the drive thru was just the absolute sweetest. I didn't catch her name but I appreciate her generosity, and when she found out it was my birthday I received my coffee complimentary! It became my only item I got free, and we went out to breakfast & dinner at places. She recommended the iced caramel blondie. I initially was worried it was going to be too sweet, but it was just right. Not too sweet, not too bitter, perfect blend and I could still taste the coffee and flavoring. That is how you make a great iced coffee! I do like to be a little fancy and add whipped cream or drizzle so if I had the chance, maybe next time I'll ask ahead of time if they could do that. I've been a fan of Black Rock Coffee for years, but I've never been to this location. I ordered a matcha for the first time at a Black Rock, and I think I'll just stick with coffee next time! The matcha latte didn't have its distinguished taste that it usually does, it was also far too milky and sweet that I barely tasted the matcha. The baristas were very kind and quick to make my drink. However, I can't help but notice that they were maybe short staffed? The two of them seemed strained when making the orders and were rushing around the place to get every order completed. The counters in the work area (the other side of the cash register) were quite untidy with dirty utensils, cloths, items, etc. laid out everywhere. They were also walking around lots of puddles, it almost seemed like there was some sort of a huge leak or spill. The cleanliness was my main concern. Love the drive thru, great service, and great flavors! I came in yesterday after I was intending to go to Starbucks but realized all of the ones in the area were not drive thrus and I'm trying to limit my exposure to others if it's not necessary. I was picking up for a couple of friends in my quarantine circle and they told me to order red eyes which I had absolutely no idea what they were and if that was a Starbucks specific drink as I don't drink coffee. The girl taking my order was super helpful in explaining what I was ordering for them and my friends were extremely happy with what they got. This is for the location at Power and Ray. I generally really like them, however, the past two visits have been disappointing. Last week, I ordered the new Irish cream and coconut chiller with almond milk. It really didn't have any flavor and it was $1.00 more for the almond milk! Absolutely terrible service. We were not able to order at the intercom because the staff went out to the line and started behind us, even though we were sitting at the spot to order. We eventually moved up because the staff kept going to the cars behind us. At the window we told the lady what happened and she did not acknowledge the issue. She only asked what we wanted and had an attitude of dismissal the entire time we were waiting to get out drink. While the drink was of normal caliber, the service was horrendous and killed the atmosphere of us wanting to go back to this location. read more
