This place was super crowded even during off season, they would definitely benefit from a roof top bar with the restaurant downstairs to make more room and help with the noise. Happened to stumble upon this gem while looking for somewhere to have dinner. We were seated right away on the "Ledge" which is the outdoor seating. My husband had a draft beer and I had a glass of rose. Both very good! We decided against appetizers and went straight for the entree. We got a surprise salad and the waitress told us to mix the homemade garlic ranch dressing with the homemade balsamic dressing. We did and not one piece of lettuce was left on our plates. I ordered the broiled seafood platter which consisted of 2 shrimp, 2 scallops, filet of flounder and a crab cake which was chock full of crab meat! It was tasty and cooked perfectly! My husband got the strip steak and broiled lobster tail. Steak was cooked to perfection and lobster tail was a prefect size. The service was fantastic and the staff was super friendly. Would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a great seafood dinner. read more

The crab artichoke dip was also very delish, and their drinks menu was fun and big. The entrees were ok, but just not nought food for a 25ish average price tag. Asian bbq shrimp were small not jumbo, had an odd taste. The yellowfin catch of the day was tasty and well prepared in an sweet and spicy hot apricot glaze. However portions were small for the price tag, and you only got one side with your meal. Great crab cakes, tasty dirty rice, great salad dressings, fish and chips were a little underdone. The coleslaw was just mayo soup. Really wish they offered the option of classic (vinegar based no cream or mayo) or creamy (mayo-based) coleslaw. Acoustics need work--the noise of the bar dominated the entire restaurant. read more

This is my son and his girlfriend's favorite place. My husband and I decided to try it. NEVER AGAIN! The first thing we noticed upon arriving, right at our reservation time, 7pm, was how unbelievably crowded the bar area was...no social distancing here! I assume because we are not "locals" they seated us way, way in the back. So glad they did!! We had a new waitress, Jen, who was a delight. Started with fried calamari, and boy were they ever fried! Burnt with no taste at all. Ok, here we go. I ordered the Swordfish with some type of tapenade on top. Just looked like a piece of fish with dark stuff on top. No presentation and looked like it was just thrown on the plate. Mind you, I rubbed the stuff on top off. Strike two. My husband ordered Fried Shrimp. I couldn't believe it but they looked like the type you get in the freezer section of the food store in a box. I wish we would have taken pictures. They were also way over-fried with no taste!! When my husband picked it up to show me the shrimp was paper-thin!! Strike three!! The night before we ate at Tuckers Tavern. Night and day. If you want a good meal try there. Well, it's a local favorite with flaws. After season going for a salad with grilled chicken added would seem like a win. Salad is fresh and dressings are always a win. Chicken was pre-cooked from the day before at least and tasteless and dry. Don't steer the locals away with less than acceptable fare. Happy Hour review only: This is truly a happy hour! 2.50$ well drinks (nice sized) & Yuengling. $3 glasses of wine. Fish tacos - 2.50$. I won't go on, but you get the point. Shrimp, oysters and clams are insanely fresh. Service is a whole different issue. Waitress is MIA and even Manager asked if we needed for her to come by. Didn't write our orders down so screwed up the drinks and then charged full price for a drink because it apparently wasn't part of the happy hour. Maybe she would have been nice enough to mention that? When I brought it up to the Manager (after she knew we were being ignored) she was a nasty witch and wouldn't charge the happy hour price for the rum & coke. We spent 80$ at happy hour drinks and food....not bad business for them for a party of 3. So needless to say, they have lost some customers. read more

Yes. Great food, excellent service, good atmosphere. The only thing that kept me from giving this place 5 stars was the noise level, but honestly if that's the only downside you can guarantee this is a great place. Steamers were great, wine list superb, and Mahi Mahi is excellent. Also - had no intentions of actually getting the specialty drink - the B-Dub Chill, but after drinking the whole thing and living happily to tell the tale, I must say this is a Must Order, provided you have a DD of course. I had jumbo king crab. My friends had the halibut, Maryland Crab Chowder, and Bacon wrapped scallops. We all shared bites with each other out of the need to show how great everything was! I do not see how this place has so many positive reviews. The noise level was beyond loud. No one could hear one another and that caused everyone to talk louder. I had high hopes, must have gone on a bad night. We waited 30 minutes for a table which isn't bad. But I noticed people who came after me where seated first. The food was okay. We just ordered appetizers, but they still took another 45 minutes. This is the killer! As soon as they were served, a girl came up to our table and said, "are you done with these? Grabbed a late dinner here on a Saturday night with my husband. The place has a vibrant, fun vibe to it. Has a spacious bar with friendly attentive bartenders. We were seated right away. We ordered shrimp cocktail as a shared appetizer. They were large and firm, and so fresh. Next came the family-style salad. A basic salad, just greens, carrot, cucumber and grape tomatoes but served with two fresh dressings: balsamic vinaigrette and a garlic ranch. They recommended combining the two dressings. We did, fantastic! My husband ordered the scallop special (scallops wrapped in bacon with a maple bourbon sauce), they were delicious. I ordered scallops, broiled. They were very good ( but not as tasty as the hubs!). We really enjoyed our first visit here. Looking forward to stopping in again for a cocktail and dinner. read more

We chose The Black Whale to celebrate our anniversary on Saturday, 7Nov. We tried to make a reservation but the very friendly host Makayla explained they did not take reservations for a table for 2 after a certain time due to COVID, which was fine. She suggested that we come at about 8 pm to avoid a long wait, which we did. We were seated right away. Everything after went downhill. We were nonexistent to our server after she took our order. We ordered appetizers & our main course to share. It arrived on a plate and the food did not look fresh, just seafood plopped on a plate, almost like here's the end of the pot. . We were given our food but no plates to eat on. The food was semi-hot and not fresh. She did not check on us until after we had finished our "meal". We asked for water & bread and waited over 15 minutes for that. Finally, a server "Mike" took pity on us and got us plates, water and bread. He was so kind and so apologetic. I was extremely disappointed with the food and the service & was sorry we canceled prior reservations to celebrate our anniversary here. On a positive note, the drinks were well made so I guess there is that. The sadder part is that they knew it was our anniversary and didn't do anything to acknowledge it. read more

First time here and the food and drinks were amazing! Life on a Sand Bar drink made with vodka, mint and cucumber was so good it called for a second. I had the linguine with white clam sauce which came with plenty of clams and delicious white wine sauce. Oysters on the half shell were fresh and the broiled combo got a thumbs up from my mother! I knew it was a bad sign when we waited 10 minutes just to be seated. There was no space in the bar area for a party of three so we sat in the dining room,but were told we could have the bar specials except for 2 items. We ordered 6 apps(4 happy hour and 2 regular menu). We we received the check and were charged full price for everything. We asked to speak to the manager and the waiter returned to inform us that he spoke with manager and only took $6 off the bill. My brother paid the bill against my judgement. I asked to speak with manager and was told by another waitress that there was no manager there until 5pm so we were lied to and ripped off. Additionally 2 of us had coffee and it was at best lukewarm. Will never go to the Black Whale again! read more

This restaurant/bar offers a great variety of land and sea. When we went for our reservation it was packed, but once you sat down away from the bar you really could enjoy the interior design and decorations in a relaxed setting. Friendly staff, and all of our food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the tuna sashimi appetizer, and the crab cakes, bacon wrapped scallops or shrimp and scallop linguini are all choices for a main. Definitely a place to hit in LBI. read more
