I gave this company my car with the intent of having my corvette engine 6rebuilt with some upgrades to horse power. I was told they could do the engine assembly on property but the engine would have to go to a machine shop for the tear down and machining of internals. The owner asked me how in love with the original engine I was. He told me it would save about half the cost of a rebuild to go with a crate motor. I asked more questions of him on the phone. We met in person later. He tried to tell me that what I wanted was too aggressive for my car. It would not be daily drivable. He could not define what he meant by that term.He was insisting that I did not know what I know about engines camshafts and my own car. Later I find out he is a computer programmer who bought the business from the man I used to know. They had my car for 7 days including a weekend. I learned nothing about what they were planning. The car sat outside. I decided to go somewhere else. They charged me $800 for basically a state inspection. read more

My father purchased a 1969 Mercury Cougar brand new in Pensacola, Fl. while he was in Naval Flight School (think Goose from Top Gun). By the time I turned 16 in '91, the Cougar was taken off the road to save $$ (never got to drive it). Fast forward to 2011. Black Wolf Automotive took the Cougar in and over the next 2 years, was completely rebuilt. 3 speed manual to a 5 speed. Bluetooth, spoiler, tires, interior was redone oh, and the Ford F-150 Lightning engine from either late 90's or early 2000's. Chris and his wonderful wife, Chris, have a nice business in Woodbridge. I was referred by a friend who has known Chris and Chris for many years, since high school and later in church. I live in Alexandria but have used Chris in the past and presently because I was no longer feeling comfortable with prior mechanic. I don't know anything about cars, and don't care to know! I do want to be able to trust whomever I employ to fix my two vehicles, when need be. I have found Chris to be very upfront and has explained everything my cars needed... what was most important and what could wait (until I had more funds!). He went out of his way to find parts at a discounted rate which is what I wanted. He also was worried that my car needed more work and would cost more than I was willing to pay. I love my car and I want to restore it. This was the best place I could go for that. He also made sure my truck was safe for me to drive and it now is. It runs so much better now. I didn't even realize it had issues until they were fixed. The receipt was very thorough in that it itemized every detail of work done. These are good people. They rescue dogs, which is a big selling point to me! read more

Let me start by saying I have had some seriously bad experiences with mechanics. I got ripped off in PA once and have had to completely redo everything. Not stoked. And I don't like dishonest people. Working with Chris and the team at Black Wolf has been a serious breathe of fresh air. They did a thorough evaluation of my 1975 Land Cruiser FJ40 and basically set me up with a series of phases of work -- so that I could make it as safe as possible to drive at first, then start to do the fun stuff. They followed through wit a timely estimate, stayed true to the estimate, and made it happen with extremely high quality craftsmanship, candor, and just being super helpful. I've taken her in for three trips at Black Wolf and each time they've done everything that I've asked. I will keep going back to them for the foreseeable future. I started going to Black Wolf Auto about 2 or 3 years ago. From my first visit I was thoroughly impressed. Chris and Maxi keep me on the road and rolling without issues. This is the ONLY place I bring my cars to for service. They have now worked on at least 3 of my cars and 2 of my wife's cars. Service and advice is always top notch. I never have to face the same repair twice. Once these guys fix it, it's fixed. And to the credit of Chris, I had a lemon of a Cadillac that was truly sucking the life out of my wallet. Chris advised me to get another car (a specific make), which I did. I now don't see them as often but to me this proved that Chris had my best interest at heart when he could have EASILY just kept fixing everything that broke on my old car and kept getting paid. Brought my 68' El Camino in for repairs and partial restoration. The estimate alone cost just under a grand. The estimate was faulty and did not represent my vehicle, had the same work charged twice in multiple places, and had 3X over-costed items. It seemed that the technician who wrote the estimate did not look at my vehicle closely and was trying to gouge to work rate. When I spoke to them they said I would have to go over the estimate line by line and they would reassess the work and fees. At that point I might as well get paid for the estimate. read more

This place is not full of professional mechanics willing to help you. This is a place of shady business. The first time I dropped my car off I was charged 500 dollars to change an inner tie rod and create a custom "bracket" for a stock electronic device that broke off. The bracket looked like crap and could have been replace cheaper on eBay, plus it did not fix the issue. I also asked Chris if he would replace some parts I brought along that dealt with the job I requested...He would not replace the parts I had asked. He refuses to do so, unless he give it an "OK" in his opinion. I usually trust a mechanic's opinion, unless my issue is still an issue, which he refuses to believe it is being cause by the parts he did not replace at my request (outer tie rod and lower ball joint). He says, it doesn't make the noise all the time, so why bother. I gave him one last chance, all I wanted was a stud replaced, because a lug nut locked up and snapped it in half. 100 dollars was quoted, I left paying $514...discounted, by the way. He took the initiative to find a noise in the back when the car corners. He would not tell me the cause of the issue unless I would pay him the extra money, that's just down right dirty. The issue was the new rotor was rubbing on the back emergency brake mechanism...probably just a pad that would of worn out over time. So I left with a 400% up charge and never going back. I don't care if he works on antiques and is proud about it. Don't treat me like an idiot and think I will not state my opinion. He knew he was in trouble, had his friend sit next to the desk waiting...and asked for my home address. Good luck with your car if you bring it to this place. It is rare that we as consumers can truthfully compliment businesses today. Quality control and consumer sensitive businesses seem to be a thing of the past; however Blackwolf Automotive Specialties is an exception. It is our pleasure to write this honest review for those interested in car restoration. Blackwolf Automotive Specialties is "A1" in our book and stated below is how we based our decision: 1. Chris and his lovely wife were pleasant throughout the process 2. An accurate and honest estimate of work needed based upon conversations and observations with the owners (us) 3. The prioritization of the work to be done was mutually established according to our budget needs 4. The main problem with my 1982 Huptie, Firebird was total "emissions" failure Blackwolf Automotive Specialties discovered many internal problems surrounding the emission failure and fixed the problems, all one-by-one and also repairing small problems in the process ---this all within my limited budget. Major! To verify the above, Chris, of Black Wolf Automotive, was so confident in his work that he rode the 1982 Firebird through Maryland inspection. (Maryland Inspection, I discovered, is just as stringent as Washington, DC). I am happy to report that Chris' confidence and excellent work proved to be successful. My car passed both the Maryland and DC Emissions Inspections. I was shocked! This was all due to the quality workmanship that Chris and his "A" team performed. You get real craftsmen here at reasonable prices instead of salesmen. I went to BW to get a bumper replaced and painted for a Mercedes. Not only did Chris repair the bumper instead replacing it, he painted it twice to get the color right without even being asked. The level of pride and workmanship just can't be found in today's world. You just don't encounter people who are passionate about cars instead of profits today. read more

Chris and Maxi run an excellent Restoration shop. They've worked on all three of my toys over the past four plus years. Each vehicle had serious mechanical issues (carb, ignition, brakes etc) that other facilities couldn't fix or gave me an excuse like "it's normal for an old truck's brake pedal to stick". Remaining two toys now run fantastic and are finally "safe to drive. What I especially appreciate is their honesty and insight. I recently "knew" that a power steering pump was bad on my 55 F100. Maxi and Brian kept on telling me the belt was loose. As usual, they were right. The point being - we all know other shops that might have sold me a new pump and tightened the belt. They recently did quite a bit of work (that I asked for - as opposed to: we found this wrong) on the F100. Maxi kept me fully apprised through the extensive repair process. The repair bill was very detailed and I felt it honestly reflected time and labor expended to complete the myriad of items I asked to be fixed/resolved. A special "Thank You" to both Chris's, Maxi, Brian, D.J. and the rest of the gang at Black Wolf Automotive.
