I got my car inspected at a place near my house, and it failed for bad brakes. They said I needed new pads and rotors on my rear brakes. I didn't think I did, so I took it to Stan Rollison's, and they confirmed my suspicions. They said I had half of my brake pad life left and they didn't know why they cited me. They re-inspected, put a sticker on and saved me $450, just by being honest. You cannot beat Stan Rollison's. They are honest people, and good mechanics. As long as I live in the area, this is the only place I will take my car for any major maintenance. I would have them do the little stuff, too, if I didn't live on the opposite end of Woodbridge. UPDATE: Last year on September 22, 2023 when I went back to Stan Rollison's, to bring a new customer in for repairs to the shop. Rick Rollison, after many years of us doing business together, was highly rude to me! He acted very frustrated and angry! According to him, he had an overloaded schedule that day, although, we had called ahead and made an appointment in advance, and there was no hurry for us! We thought we were just dropping it off and the vehicle would be ready by the close of business! Of which, ultimately, that's how it turned out. However, Rick insisted on putting it on the rack. Then, he claimed he couldn't get the wheels off and it just sat there- up on the rack, taking up space and nothing being done to the vehicle! When my friend & I came back from a short lunch I challenged his false claim & went over to the vehicle with him accompanying me, and easily demonstrated the removal of the wheel in question, right off in front of him, doing it myself! You see, I had untorgued all the wheels on that vehicle the day before and I told him that too, over the phone, prior to bringing it in all the way from Culpeper! He clearly was a LIAR!!! NO ONE EVEN TRIED TO REMOVE THE WHEEL! Furthermore, he overcharged my friend's bill, of which, I paid for on my charge card. He wrote up the bill in such a way, that no one could see that he did so. But when you tell someone it will be around $300. for just the back two (2) rotos and pads and it came out to $524.56., well, that's highly suspicious! In closing, Rick Rollison, when reading this review, I just hope you don't blow another gasket & almost seemingly have a heart attack like you did that day in your shop!!! If you're so greedy at that shop, to overbook your schedule and then fume, fuss and steam about it in front of and to the customer, then perhaps maybe you shouldn't!? Personally, after all the years I have known you, I had never seen you act that way! Your stress level was off the charts brother! YIKES!!! If you haven't already had a stroke or heart attach yet, go see a doctor! It might just save your life! All I know is, that when Stan was alive, the shop wasn't ran like this! Amazing fast service and most of the Ladies at the counter is so friendly . Most of the time the peoples at mechanic shop can be dry and stale . I'm new to the area and needed to find a reliable place to get my car serviced. I checked Yelp and this was one of the first places to respond to my oil change / alignment inquiry. The owner, Rick, was very quick with his response and I was able to call and get an appt booked asap. He was very transparent about pricing as well. I got to the shop, spoke with Rick and he mentioned the car should be done in less than 2 hours. I brought my laptop with me while I wait so I could get some work done. Nice, clean place to hang out while your car is getting work. An hour later, the car is finished. Stan's went way above and beyond what anyone would expect. Our car broke down on I95 on our way to Pennsylvania. They helped us every step of the way. When we finally got the car towed to Stan's, it was closing time. They stayed and gave us good advice about where to stay and a good motel. They didn't leave until we were picked up by an uber driver. The next day, they did thorough testing on the car and fixed it at a very reasonable price and time frame. They gave us top priority and we were on the road by 12 noon and made it to Pennsylvania and back to Florida with no further problems. Thank you so much. read more

In many years, I have lived in Woodbridge, been to many different various automotive repair shops, the AC system was not working well which they add freon from the cans, where you can buy at Walmart or any auto part store, which it is not the proper method to add freon to the AC system, therefore it's most likely caused excessive freon gases to over work the AC compressor to fail. I was ready to give up fixing after a major overhaul AC system after going 4 different repair shop in 3 year span, struggling to find the issue with the AC cooling system. I decide to call Rollison's shop, the service desk, Elizabeth have help me explaining the service cost, setting up appointment for the next day in the morning. Stan Rollison's Automotive is hidden on Featherstone Rd near Route 1 and is nearby dealership as Radley Acura and Hyundai. I brought in 1996 Honda Civic DX hatchback, automatic, to diagnose engine noise. The RPM range while driving and at idle was very sluggish. After the tech's finding, it was a bad AC compressor clutch that connect to the pulley, which made the noise when driving, also the AC belt was dragging along RPM speed on bad compressor, the tech went ahead to remove the AC belt from the AC pulley so it prevent it from seizing the AC compressor, with the belt removed, the engine was more responsive in all rpm range, but still no AC. Decision to be made driving to home. We went back to the shop same day to drop the vehicle off, if I have driven along a little longer with the AC belt to the bad AC compressor for few week longer, it would destroy itself and it would been a costly repair to the engine. Tech put in a new AC compressor, new freon filled properly with AC service machine, now the car engine is much more responsive to idle and driving even with the AC on and off. Now I know where to bring in my vehicle for AC service maintenance. Not many shops have proper AC service machines that vacuum your old freon, and adding new freon to the right amount, even a little too much freon can destroy your working AC compressor very quickly even ruin the new compressor in the process. I wish I knew about this hidden automotive repair shop in Woodbridge, they are very helpful and explained what went wrong with the car, it was quick turn around repair same day. I am more than happy to have the AC blowing cold and idle is smooth, best shape in 10 year of ownership. Thank you Rick and Elizabeth, and the tech for the AC diagnose. Nice staff. After losing my mechanic of almost 30 years, I chose Stan Rollison's due to the high marks they've received on Yelp. I'll preface everything from this point forward with ... maybe my experience(s) have been an exception to the rule. I was impressed on my initial visit, in part by the 10% discount they applied, to my surprise, for being a new customer. (That amounted to $150, so it wasn't nothing.) I took my vehicle in to have new tires mounted to new wheels that I'd purchased elsewhere, for what I felt was a reasonable price ($125), in addition to being stoked that they would do this for parts I purchased elsewhere. So far so good. Next, I asked them to diagnose a little squeaky noise I was hearing when going over bumps. Diagnosis? Replace the front struts and rear sway bar. Not cheap, but despite the minor annoyance of the noise I figured I should probably do it if they were bad. So they were replaced. I drove off the lot and before I got home an ABS light appeared on the dashboard, which was something I'd never seen before. I also continued to hear a noise when going over bumps. I brought the car back to them and as best they could tell the noise was coming from worn out rubber on the engine mounts. They lubed up that area and didn't charge me anything, which was another good sign. It seemed to have helped ... for about a day. I took it back again for another look and they said they could replace the engine mounts for about $1500. I decided to pass. I also asked them to look into the ABS light problem again, but since it was intermittent and not on at the time, they said there was no way to diagnose it, so I was out of luck. I left the shop and after a few days of hearing the noise that I paid over a thousand dollars to fix, I decided to take it elsewhere for a second opinion. The guy took it for a test drive and barely left the lot before turning around to say he thought he knew what the problem was. Sure enough, there was a bolt that wasn't tightened when the struts were replaced. He tightened it up, didn't charge me a cent while at the same time saving me $1500 that I could have spent at Stan's to not fix the problem, and I haven't heard a peep from my car since (a couple/few months later). Meanwhile the frequency of the ABS light increased, so I took it back again. But once again they couldn't get the light to come on while in their possession, so I left with the problem unresolved. I should also mention that my cruise control wouldn't work any time the ABS light was on, which was the bigger concern to me. Eventually the light was on about 90% of the time, so I took it back to the shop with the car running and the light on and asked them to check the code while it was present. They did, but couldn't determine exactly what the cause was from the code. They said it could be one of three different things but no way to know which one--either ABS sensor, bearings, or something else I can't remember. They said they could start with the cheapest option (over $300) and do a process of elimination, but that made no sense to me. Once again, I took the car elsewhere for a second opinion. I told them there was a chance the light might not be on when they started the car up, but they said it didn't matter because they could check the history. (Really? Why couldn't Stan do that?) Anyway they did say that the code was throwing two errors, but in all likelihood they thought that replacing the ABS sensor could take care of both. They replaced it, the problem was solved, and it was a hundred dollars less than Stan's price. Another thing I asked Stan to do was check a battery that appeared to be going bad. They confirmed that it needed to be replaced. I didn't ask for a quote, but I was surprised when going to pick the car up that the battery and installation ran $300. There was one final thing that I took my car to Stan's for early on, and that was that my AC wasn't blowing as cold as it used to. They checked it out and said they didn't see anything wrong and that the temp was measuring within acceptable limits, so that was that. Now this could be totally unrelated, but afterwards the AC condensation started leaking into the passenger floorboard of my car. I took it to the same shop that replaced the ABS sensor and they found that some AC-related cap was not screwed on properly. (I'm not a mechanic so I don't know exactly what it was.) They corrected that and the leak stopped. It may or may not be something that Stan's did when diagnosing, but I mention it just as an fyi. I'll close by saying I have nothing against Stan's and I think their intentions are good and that they're honest, but at the same time I won't be returning based off of my personal experiences. If you choose to use them, hopefully you'll have better luck. read more

Trustworthy Auto Service! I was looking to get my starter replaced on my 2014 Kia Soul. After calling the dealership and getting a quote of over $650 for parts and labor, I called Stan Rollison's. I found them here on Yelp and saw their near perfect rating. I called and described the problem and brought it in that afternoon. They were able to get the part the next day and have it installed the same day. I needed a rental car and they actually drove me to Enterprise to pick up my rental. They were extremely helpful and for the parts, labor, an oil change and my state inspection, it was over $200 less than the quote from the dealership for less work. I got a flat tire the other day while heading to work and found this small shop close to my house. I gave them a call today and they took my car with no hesitation. I dropped it off and let them do what they needed. Now this is the first time I've taken my car to a private shop. I normally would take it to Koons to have them repair it. But I wanted to try something new. And I can honestly say I am glad I did! I needed a new tire and my car would shack while going over 50mph which I knew wasn't a good sign! I received multiple phone calls from the business updating me on the progress and the cost which I loved! I didn't feel push to purchase anything or guilty for not getting something replaced. They were honest with every fix on my vehicle. I was going to purchase four new tires and they stated I don't need four I just need one and IF I wanted to I could get a second one just to match up with the new one. Now most places would try to force you to get all new tires so they could make a extra buck, but not this place! Basically with all that said I paid around $800 for 2 new tires, oil change, alignment, and 2 new stabilizers. If I went to Ford I would of paid about $2,000 just for that work alone. I am really pleased with there work and the cost and how friendly the staff is. I definitely will be coming back to get work done and also to have my wife's car worked on as well! read more

Ok...new to the area, 1k over on mileage for an oil change, I needed to get it done. I had been planning to check out Woodbridge's All Tune and Lube based on their signs for $15.95, but knew there had to be some unreported and (probably) substantial fees and additional costs to be added on. Frankly, knowing that, I decided to find a place that wouldn't be even slightly misleading, as I want a business I can count on and will stick with. Reviewing Yelp, I saw a lot of local businesses that had a strong rating, but something about Stan Rollison's independent business suggested I try them out. I'm glad I did. Be aware that this is solely about my oil change experience with them, but I do intend to go back to them for all my non-tire services (I have a standing pre-paid contract with a national brand for tires). They are enclosed within a fenced warehouse area, but access is easy. The waiting area is small and crowded this early holiday Monday morning and with a loud TV, but there was still seating. The only employee I ever saw was Mr. Stan Rollison himself, manning the front desk. Very charming, sincere fellow. Shook my hand, greeted me like a returning customer and offered to go get coffee for me. He apologized for estimating at least an hour before he could get to my car, but I understood. He was pleasant with everyone who came through the door, which struck me well. I was impressed with his technical interactions with the other waiting customers. He would leave the desk area to go into the bay to apparently confer with his staff and then come back and act as the personable intermediary. Some people had good news (ex: "Looks like your wife took real good care of your car while you were away. You're good to go), others just a little more than expected (ex: "You're [something] light went off, which needs to be investigated before the inspection."). But the important thing was that I never felt any sense of a possibility he was adding on to the work order just because he could. Again, I noticed and was impressed. The oil change was done within the hour of my arrival. Remember, I wasn't actually expecting to be seen until an hour was even up, but on the nose, he indicated the service was complete and was affordable ($33.60). Sure, I could probably have saved a few bucks (I estimate no more than 10) at a rapid service place, but for the professionalism I experienced and the confidence I developed regarding honesty, it was well worth it. I've had independent shops elsewhere easily charge 45-60% more than rapid service or dealerships, so his price was a welcome relief. He had also offered to rotate the tires for free, which I declined. I will definitely be returning. In fact, I'm writing this review as I sit down to plan which services my two vehicles need next, because of my experience this morning. Thumbs up for Stan Rollison's Automotive Service. I used to work for a rental car agency when I first came out of school. As tough of a job it was, I got to see which shops customers were leaving their cards at and which shops seemed to not service their customers very well. Stan's was NEVER that shop. Stan's has a very happy loyal customer base. At the agency, we would even bring our cars over to Stan's for servicing. The shop is honest and reliable. He's not necessarily the cheapest shop out there (still cheaper than going to a dealership however); but when he tells me something needs to be serviced -- I believe him. He's great about answering questions and also offering advice about when different things will need to be serviced by (if not today). I've even called him up for overall car advice when I needed to bring a car to a body shop. As a woman, it's important for me to go to an honest shop because there are plenty of mechanics that will take advantage (and HAVE) of my lack of knowledge about cars. This is the primary reason that I drive out of the way to bring my car only to Stan's still. We've been on a first name basis for 10 years now. Went on today for an inspection and thought I needed new front brakes. I met with the legend, the owner, and pretty much the nicest man alive, all mushed together in one person=stan! What a great experience, and I just got here! So Stan the man, took my info, and I left. A little while later, I got a phone call, letting me know that I don't need brakes, I could go a while longer. Stan is the man!! I went there based on the positively glowing yelp reviews and was not disappointed. I had a leak in my transmission for about a year and a half (just kept topping it off...). Other places were trying to charge me $600 to fix this problem. Stan tightened something in there and didn't even charge me. The leak stopped! A car miracle! The second time I went in I had a slow leak in a tire. I had someone at a gas station check it out and they couldn't find anything. When I thought it was going to be a bigger fix I took it to Stan's and he patched it up, no problem. I had always dreamed of finding a car repair place I could go to and not be on my guard all the time trying to figure out whether the staff were trying to help me fix a problem or get themselves more money. Had an issue with my car and needed someone to fix it quick due to my busy schedule. Gave them a call once they opened and they told me that they can have me there right away. Went there and they told me the problem within 15 min. The issue was in the alternator and needed a new baterry. After no more than two hours I was on my way to work. Great service and speed! Like many kids growing up in the DC metro area, I had no idea what my Dad did at work. I knew that he was kinda like a police officer, but didn't drive a patrol car. Instead, my father (a Senior Special Agent) drove a fleet of "G" (Government owned) cars that included inconspicuous family cars, muscle cars, low riders, lots of vans, as well as the Ford LTD. Mr. Rollison was the person my father trusted to service the G cars that often had classified features. When I turned 16, I was crestfallen to learn my father had bought me a safe, reliable LTD; that was that very same year I became a devoted client of Rollison's Automotive. Since the LTD, I've owned four cars and all were maintained expertly by Rollison's Automotive. Last month my Lexus required a 60K service. Mr. Rollison presented me with a price list of what Lexus recommended for the 60K. It would have been a hefty bill to absorb...but Mr. Rollison determined what my car needed serviced immediately and what I could return next month or the month after for servicing. And I when I return, it is usually with very little notice, yet my every appointment request has been accommodated. I now live in Alexandria but drive to Woodbridge because I trust Mr. Rollison explicitly...just as the Federal Government trusted him with their G cars. Mr. Rollison is one of the most congenial men you'll ever meet and you'll be hard pressed to find a more honest or fair priced auto shop.
