I cannot remember a time that Blackbeard's didn't exist. So based on that alone I thought I should add a star for longevity. I cannot say it is anything extravagant but it is consistent. Over the years I'm sure some way or another I've had everything. If I had to think of something that really stood out to me I would say the corn nuggets. That is one thing that this place has changed the game for me. I don't know how but they aren't ever soggy like they are other places I've had them. If you've never been before and you can expect to see a fried version of any seafood item you've ever heard of. The BBQ isn't bad either. It's nothing fancy but I think the food here is outstanding and there is lots of variety. We both had the blue plate special of the day (pot roast) with 3 sides. It was too much food for me! Another group of friends joined us and they all got sandwiches except one who got boiled shrimp. I think he was thinking he was at a buffet because he got 12 shrimp and didn't feel like that was much. He said it was good but he wanted more food. I guess just a note to those that get boiled shrimp and want a large portion, you aren't going to get it. I used to live in Albany and I would go here weekly. Came here while I was staying in Albany last week and ordered ribs. I was kind of surprised that I didn't notice this place months ago when I visited Sonnys BBQ a which is almost directly across the street. I ordered half a rack of ribs and a side of Brunswick stew. Here we go. Of course, being the Neanderthal I am, I tried the ribs first. Not a lot going on with them that I can see. They look to be just an ordinary rack of ribs that were smoked well. They were nicely browned on the outside and tasted like they were just lightly seasoned with seasoning salt. No fancy sauces or dry rubs. This is bold in my opinion. You have to be pretty confident in your technique to "let the meat speak for itself." They did good though, those ribs are tasty and moist! I did order a side of their "hot bbq sauce" cause I like to surprise my taste buds sometimes. I have mixed feelings about this bbq sauce. I'm not positive but I think it was hot wing sauce and barbecue mixed together. It was sweet n smoky but also had that tangy hot wing sauce flavor. I didn't not like it. In fact, I'd eat it again but I don't know that I'd go out of my way for it. Now Brunswick stew is still pretty new to me. I think I've had it, maybe, 6 times in my life so I'm no expert. That being said I enjoyed their Brunswick stew. It was hearty and I licked the foam container it came in. It's a BBQ restaurant, it's a seafood restaurant and at lunch M-F it's a meat and 2 with blue plate specials and additional vegetable choices (mac 'n cheese is a vegetable, right?). This was a weekly destination when I lived in Albany, and was definitely one of the highlights of living there. I pretty much ordered the two-meat combo w/two sides at lunch every time, as it filled me up, tasted sooooo good and was an awesome value ($9 or something). I usually got scallops (they give you at least six big ones!) on a bed of tasty seasoned rice, grilled catfish filet, okra and tomatoes, Brunswick Stew (best I've ever had and the main reason to come here). They also throw in tartar sauce and hushpuppies. Their side dish options are different every day though, so watch out. I would give them a 4 1/2 because of inconsistent service, but I'd definitely give them a 5 rather than a 4. Try 'em out! read more

I have eaten here since they opened. I moved away in 2007 and just dropped in for lunch on a visit. I noticed the new menu and decided on a shrimp po boy sandwich. It was HUGE! I am not disappointed. It's very difficult to find a good shrimp po boy. You either have to be in a Gulf state or in a Capitol city with an authentic Cajun restaurant. It was nice to get my craving satiated, in Albany of all places! For a town that is in its death throws, Blackbeard's is a diamond in a sea of coal. I would give this restaurant more stars but the quality of food wasn't that good. The waitress was nice and attentive. We were passing through Albany, Ga on our way to Florida looking for some good southern food. I read the comments on yelp and thought ok let's try it. When we walked in, the place was very friendly and down to earth. We arrived before 3 pm right before lunch was ending. We made it just in time. We ordered dark meat fried chicken that came with three sides and biscuits for $10.99. Good deal. The waitress took our order left and came back telling us there wasn't any dark meat. She asked if white meat ok. We agreed that it was. She brought everyone food out except for my 11 yr old. I waited with him. It took her another 5 min before she brought it out. What I notice is that they were serving other people's food before his. I didn't like that. When his food came out we started eating. My chicken breast was so DRY I couldn't chew it. I had to spit it out. The waitress asked us if everything was ok? I told her how dry my chicken was. She asked if I would like baked chicken or chicken strips. She came out and told me that there wasn't any baked chicken but she could bring me chicken strips. After waiting a good 10 min, I wasn't hungry anymore. We received the bill. I noticed that we were charged $11.49 for each chicken dinner. I told the manager and he checked with the waitress. He told us that since it was white meat that the chicken had an up charge. I told him that we were not aware of the up charge and how the chicken was so DRY!! All he said was sorry. THAT'S IT!! Poor service, food doesn't come out all together, poor management, up charge on food without telling you and VERY DRY FRIED CHICKEN!! Won't eat at this restaurant again!! read more

I remember when I used to think this was such a cool fancy restaurant growing up in Albany. We always came in after Church, for big birthdays, and sometimes for special field trips. Because so, I got the fried catfish, and it was thoroughly disappointed because of how grossly greasy and not fresh the fish was. We ate here a while back and even though we've eaten here a few times, the last time killed any chances of ever returning. They gave my son rotten oysters and after he ate one, he went to the bathroom and threw up. Guess what? They gave him a new meal he couldn't enjoy since he was still nauseated from the bad oyster and we had to pay for it. We are new to the area from Texas and love our BBQ. With covid-19 leaving us to carry out options only, we found Blackbeard's on Facebook and saw they are still up and running for pickup orders and we decided to try the regional BBQ. We ordered via phone and got a brisket sandwich and pork sandwich (chopped, not chipped). The man who brought our food out to the car was friendly and welcoming and offered a side of each bbq sauce offered so we could taste them all! Both sandwiches were delicious and there was no shortage of meat in either! The fried okra was yummy and the French fries were similar to concession stand fries, not a ton of seasoning and very crispy. My only complaint was the greasiness of the food, but I will be back when they open back up to try the grilled fish options! read more

We expected Sunday lunch to be crowded but fortunately we got there before the crowds did. We were seated immediately and our server greeted us quickly. The oyster po boy was huge - six oysters stuffed into the roll with lettuce and tomato. The oysters were perfectly fried and very fresh. The seafood pasta did not disappoint. It was chocked full of shrimp, crawfish, and smoked sausage. The fried chicken was just the way it should be, lightly dredged in seasoned flour instead of thick breading. They put a platter of bread and butter pickles, crackers, and lemon wedges on each table, and those pickles were amazing. My BFF and I went to eat my birthday lunch! I signed up for their birthday club in the lobby. This year they sent me a letter and it came with a Birthday meal!!! It was very busy today so it.took about 10 minutes to be seated. Yall I am a fluffy juicy girl and I think even my grandchild would not have fit in that booth! I ordered the St. Louis style BBQ ribs loaded baked potato and my best friend ordered the fried pork chop sandwich everything came out hot and fresh totally happy with my choice.
